Nestled in a secluded courtyard in the heart of York city centre, this charming hotel is situated 800 metres from York Rail Station and York Minster.

Great location close to train station. Good breakfast. Value for money.
Noise from the street outside.
Excellent I'll be back
Quiet Comfy bed Clean Free WiFi Friendly staff Close to train station and York Centre
Room was quite small
Very convenient and easy to find. Reception staff really helpful finding us a safe place to store our bikes. A different and interesting type of place to stay. Basic but clean and warm bedroom - just as expected! Great breakfast.
Great location for the money. I felt very safe as a young female solo traveler. If I make it back to york I will plan on staying here :)
After a busy afternoon exploring York I could come back and rest in a delightful garden or in my very comfy room. The staff were all very cheerful and helpful.
The friendliness of the staff Cleanliness of the full building Well positionned, close to the train station and the historic center Good facilities (kitchen, bathrooms)
WiFi not available on top floors Insolation between rooms not perfect and with the outside
One felt safe as it is a nunnary.
Rooms very basic, need updating. Car park cost £31.50 for two days. Should have booked a better hotel with parking.
Very Central Location Selection of bathrooms and showers Free access to museum Fascinating building and history
Breakfast in the garden
Not enough em suites
At the last minute I booked a night at the Bar Convent. It was an excellent place to stay. Very clean and such a quite place. I had a lovely evening there and enjoyed my breakfast the next day
The only problem I had was I booked in on the sunday and when I arrived it was during a closed door time there so I had to call. Fortunately someone was around and I was able to check in there and then which was good as id travelled up from Weston superare
Friendly welcoming staff, clean room
The man in the room next door who came back to the hotel at 2am, stamped around and had a very loud telephone conversation
Very expensive- Shared toilet facilities at a rate of £106/night for a family room is not comparable to market values. Also, the room is very basic. The continental breakfast provided is too basic- the option of full English breakfast at the cost was expected
Location and quircky. Genuine.
Ben was very helful
Wifi was not working at all except in the reception hall The room was very hot not aricon and the windows do no open and at early morning one just wakes up with the light in the room poor curtains...
Superb standard of cleanliness, Excellent breakfast which came with a good pot of tea, Excellent tea facilities in the room, Friendly and helpful staff who were very welcoming, Very handy for the railway station, Very realistically priced for York - quite a bargain compared with some other hotels in the city which are overpriced for what they offer.
Quite a lot of road traffic noise at times (hence I have marked down 'comfort' - if it hadn't been for the traffic noise it would have been between good & excellent). But I would stay there again.
Great garden, nice cafe with home baking, friendly staff and calm atmosphere.
Our room was on the street side (Nunnery Road) and had traffic noise from early on. And as it was hot a closed window meant overheating.
It was quirky, with the rooms all having names of saints and lots of corridors & little flights of steps going up & down. Tea/coffee making facilities good, plenty of storage for clothing etc & room was quite spacious. Continental breakfast included in the price had a good range of cereals & there was fresh fruit. It was very well located for the city centre but wasn't noisy, even though we had the window open all night.
bathroom wasn't en-suite, which would put me off staying for more than an odd night
Location and the history of the place. It was fun finding your way through the twisting maze of corridors.
comfort, friendliness, history, food
Not being told there was no on suite I had to go down the corridor in my nightie!!!
Great location, friendly staff, clean and due to the hot weather they'd put a fan in the room. Very thoughtful.
Very comfy beds, good breakfast options, beautiful garden, very clean.
A double bedroom would have been preferred.
+ Breakfast is good + There is a small Museum inside the hotel which is very nice (free for visitors living in the hotel) + Close to York railway station (10 min walk) - the hotel locates outside the Micklegate + Walk to York Minister & city center around 15-20 min via the old wall (good experience) - though hotel locates outside the wall, it is still very convenient, as York is 'small' + Hotel rate is fair for short-stay traveller
+ Share bathroom + No TV, the day visited no WIFI as well + Room is not big, bed is fair Though, it is still recommended to visit this historical flavor hotel.
this is one of the best experiences that we had in travelling, the house is linked with many historic stories and it is a peaceful place. The hidden chapel is very interesting and staff is kind and helpful. The garden is amazingly beautiful!
you may need to share toilet with other guests and way need to walk around in looking for a shower facility.
