If you arrive expecting 5 star luxury accommodation, then sleeping in a former nun's cell is not for you.
Not many rooms have en suite facilities, but I believe that the 4 rooms for the disabled (not wheelchair accessible) are more commodious.
The Bar Convent is safe environment for the single lady traveller. A quiet idyll in the centre of York.
The tranquil garden is marvellous and on a sunny day one can take ones meals and eat outside at one of the many tables.
The chapel very peaceful, yet beautiful.
Each room has a television, some have radios and telephones are currently being installed as well as a bed, hand wash basin, hanging facilities, a desk and chair. We could have enjoyed tea, coffee and biscuits in our bedroom/cell
The lay staff and the nun we met were all extremely accommodating helpful and knowledgeable..
We enjoyed the inclusive breakfast, which catered quietly and helpfully with coping with my allergies.
I would recommend The Bar Convent to any lady traveller: a safe haven in the centre of York. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. I hope to return soon.
