Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.
Score from 1558 reviews Good
In the heart of historic York, this Hilton has 2 bars, 2 restaurants and is opposite the ancient Clifford's Tower. Modern rooms, each with a flat-screen TV, are moments from the Jorvik Viking Centre.
Score from 1077 reviews Good
Ideally situated, family- run Wheatland Lodge Hotel offers good value accommodation, just a 5-minute walk from York Train Station and a 10-minute walk from York's historic centre.

Sense of history very polite and helpful staff
Room a bit basic
The location, the kind helpful staff and clean, comfortable conditions. Great value for money but the bathroom facilities are not en suite. Upgrading is taking place at the moment.
The night was a bit noisy, but the staff apologised for the thoughtless guests. I don't know how this could have been avoided or predicted. I would return.
Convenience to railway station and centre of York. Good kitchen and lounge facilities.
squeaky door hinges but due for refurbishment shortly.
The hotel does not have a night receptionist and consequently a very rowdy stag group returned to the hotel at 3am making more noise than imaginable with the girls they had met. Then had to listen to the ensuing shenanigans until 6am. Not at all pleasant
Location, very close to train station and centre of York. Room was spacious and very clean. Would definitely use again. Good value for money, lovely building.
The breakfast was really good. The staff were very helpful. The place was interesting and made it special. Whilst not a posh hotel it was clean and comfortable.
A group of noisy lads ran up and down the passageway shouting at 3.45am waking us up. They carried on being loud for about 20 mins. It wasn't enough to spoil the stay but did take the edge of a little. We didn't blame the staff though as York has many night clubs so this would be a risk at any place of this size in the city.
The Bar Convent is an old friend. I have been staying there while in York for some time. It is always clean, pleasant staff and excellent breakfast.
The room was very well equipped and comfortable
Nothing really ,the corridors are old and poor decor but the facilities were excellent for the price
Clean and decent size room. Nice shower and toilet Nice breakfast (free with an en-suite room) Good location just outside the city wall
Children were left to run up and down the halls and if we hadn't of had our door locked they would have walked straight in to our room. Very warm as you could not control the radiator. Needs re-decorating however, the room was fine.
The room was excellent. Nice and big, large bed,two armchairs and a side table with well stocked hospitality tray. Spotless en suite, nice towels 15 min walk from the Shambles, theatres and National Railway Museum Breakfasts would not have looked out of place in a way more expensive establishment. 2 minutes from possibly the best Italian restaurant in York (Delrios)
Although value for money, only because it is in a tourist city and even then £92.00 per night is quite dear. The breakfast and position redeem it somewhat
Location. Access to fully functioning kitchen and lounge
No TV in room.
Lovely breakfast with lots of options. Full guest kitchen facilities. There was tea, coffee and biscuits in room, couldn't have asked for more!
how clean and tidy our room was. staff so helpful was able to leave our bags . thanks
pillows a little hard for my liking its my only fault so to speak .
Service was particularly good and friendly
The building and history was really nice. It was relaxed and homely. The staff were great.
I felt that the breakfast let the place down but the made up for it.
Close to the train station and Micklegate bars. The bedroom was clean and tidy. Continental breakfasts included in price are decent
10am checkout. The building is in need of repair but it is clean
Great location, clean and friendly
Our stay was brilliant. Hotel very unusual but lovely. Rooms were warm and very clean. Full English breakfast was amazing. Definitely would recommend xx
Quaint building and lovely staff
No en suite and dated room.
Location, close to railway station.
the location is great if u need go travel through kings cross or st pancrox,
Comfortable room. Fluffy towels Excellent breakfast. Serenity.
Location . the double en-suit bedroom was good value for money.
Excellent breakfast & room refreshments. So convenient by the city walls and car park. The building itself, and the peaceful atmosphere!
During a brief fire alarm I found my way down to the ground floor but then ended up in the grounds outside when I should have been in the main hall…NOT a complaint, but is there a fire exit arrow pointing to there from the bottom of stairs?
