The Barn, Roundhurst. Without the Internet and mobile data access we would have missed the pleasure of staying at The Barn. At the end of a long day, sitting in a service station car park, we ran a search for local accommodation and The Barn appeared third on the list but with a 9.5 rating and a warning that it would sell out soon. The night was dark, damp and foggy. We completed the booking online as quickly as possible and were rewarded with one of the best places we have ever stayed. Every element of this small property is outstanding. The eponymous Barn is beautifully restored and furnished. (It has inspired us to get on with furnishing our own home.) Our room was a generous size well endowed with drawers and with a reasonable amount of hanging space. It was also well supplied with lights and power points that allowed plenty of sockets to charge our phones and computers. WiFi also worked well. Common facilities are comfortable with an honour system bar, huge quantities of magazines and well supplied with DVDs and books. It felt very much like home. Breakfast was top quality and served elegantly. Dinner is offered Thursday through the weekend which meant we were unable to enjoy the experience. We understand that the food offered is derived from the Roundhurst farm; we will make sure we are there for dinner when we next visit. Hattie, who received and looked after us, recommended a pub, called Noah's Ark, at Lurgashall, about 10 minutes drive away. (Noah's Ark was also exceptional – see our review) We have nothing negative to say about The Barn, it was just superb. Hattie took good care of us and we felt very welcome. One caution, the property is on farmland in well wooded country. We arrived on a wet and foggy night and it would be easy to miss the entrance. Our suggestion is that the owners find a way to light the signs at the entrance to the drive. Even reflectors would help.
Lovely breakfast. Warm clean rooms.
The staff, food and comfort were all top class. We had a great stay at The Barn and would highly recommend it.
Fantastic level of service and beautifully decorated house and rooms
Everything was well thought out and all needs met. Even the weather was perfect and even if not umbrellas provided. Excellent staff friendly and efficient.
Definitely had the wow factor.
If I'm going to be really picky, the teapots wouldn't pour without spilling .spoiling the crisp and clean tablecloths, even when holding the lid down! Told you it was picky.
The location was great . Rural setting but close towns . Very pretty . Staff were great and would recommend
Reception hall, accommodation, food and attention to detail - all perfect. Breakfast overwhelming. More a 5* hotel than b&b. The best we have stayed in.
Nothing, the whole place was perfection.
Really pleasant, friendly and unpretentious approach to offering an overnight stay. Surroudings both internally and externally were excellent and provided the right amount of privacy when needed.
Not a lot really. Is helpful to have directions to hand and not great access to wifi but frankly can live without this for a while and enjoy the stay.
The best accomodation we ever had.
Very friendly, warm welcome. Great food. Stylish country-living and very relaxed. The Barn is a great place to relax, read, drink a glass when you don't want to stay in your room.
Peace & quiet, a very nice room with the most comfortable bed in the world, lovely breakfast, good bathroom & shower, warm welcome with a glass of wine. Tasty home made biscuits to go with tea/coffee in room - good attention to the smallest detail - thank you !
A fantastic place very attentive and friendly staff, lovely decor and room was great. We will definitely be back.
Everything. Beautiful and quiet location. Staff really friendly.
Charming room, friendly staff
The breakfasts were hit or miss
The set-up at The Barn at Roundhurst is superb. The rooms are actually independent cabins surrounding a shared courtyard, where you can sit and relax if the weather permits. If not, the barn itself has been converted into a cosy lounge area, and dining room. There is also a mezzanine level with games, books and DVDs available for guest use. An honesty bar means that your favourite tipple is always available. The staff is friendly and helpful. They don't live on site but there's always someone on call for problems and this also makes it feel like The Barn is your own space rather than a part of someone's personal house. The food is divine; definitely book for dinner in, if you can. The breakfasts are equally tasty, and plentiful; you'll be set for the day's activities!
No mobile phone possible in the rooms
Lovely place to stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious.
As it was cold on our arrival it was a welcome site to see the fire blazing. The rooms were warm and well equipped.Beds so comfortable. The staff were friendly and eager to please.
The food was good but a set menu so no choice unless previously ordered.
No over-fussiness, complete relaxation, very high standards and a real treat. From arrival to departure an experience to be remembered.
I cannot find anything(really) to dislike. The perfect Valentine weekend, thank you.
