Nice location but out of the way of amenities. Close to longleat which was a plus point. Bedrooms are nicely decorated and staff are very friendly.
Felt rooms could have been cleaner. Felt the food menu was overrated, ordered from the bar menu and was like normal pub food. Breakfasts were nice but cooked breakfasts were quite small only one of each item.
Beautiful location, would defiantly stay again. Staff very helpful and the food was great. We stayed in the little lodges outside which were lovely and cosy.
The mattress was slightly uncomfortable but I'm use to an orthopedic mattress so that could be why.
Excellent location, really comfortable beds, quiet
Stayed several times and each time had to wait a while to be seen to, for checking in and checking out.
The location, the atmosphere, the facilities, the food and the staff
We had no dislikes
Relatively poor service at dinner Pretentious food Few veg
Near to Longleat
The dust in the room The food The service Overall, I'd never recommend this place, nor stay there again
Very comfortable bed Lovely fluffy pillows Towels were thick and fluffy and enough of both sizes for my husband and I We had a nightcap before turning in for the night and staff were very friendly and helpful Really couldn't fault anything
room a little small
The staff were superb from start to finish. Couldn't have been more helpful. Food fabulous, hotel excellent. Great weekend all round.
The close proximity to Longleat. The comfort and cleanliness of the room. Lovely location. Friendly staff. Evening meal - food very plentiful and enjoyable - attentive staff.
No safety grab rail on bath. Lighting in bedroom not sufficient to be able to read easily. Wrong remote for TV - unable to change channel. Breakfast on first morning 8am - brilliant. Second morning 9am - croissants had run out and service was very slow.
Leona and Ceara were really helpful when I emailed with a request and also asked to have a room with the roll too bath. Dinner was lovely and our room was stumning. The hotel was really quirky and we would definitely stay again.
The breakfast was cold albeit tasty. Also the shower attachment in the roll top bath was really weak And just trickled out when was annoying when trying to shower. These aside it was really good.
The staff were always very friendly and polite, a little on the slow side but as we were in no rush we weren't too bothered. Nothing was too much troubled when asked. We had an evening meal and it was lovely - a bit over priced having to pay for a potato side. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Overall it was a lovely place and anywhere that lets you take dessert up to the room is a winner for me! Would definitely go back.
The water pressure in the shower was bad, but reported this and hopefully fixed as this was the only bad point
Very nice quaint old building. Very comfortable. Room well stocked. Reasonably priced last minute booking.
Shower screen leaked all over floor. Needed repair or replacement.
1. The bar ales (draught) appeared to be kept well. 2. Good evening meal menu selection. 3. Staff friendliness & helpfulness 4. The setting of the pub. Attractive and very quiet location on the corner of the hamlet green. 5. Casement windows opened wide in the bedrooms (and in the 'Geisha' Room) the bathroom. (A big plus for anyone feeling claustrophobic or with breathing difficulties). 6. Nicely appointed hard standing garden comprising tables and chairs. There were flower beds on either side in a pleasant and quiet setting. 7. Choice of a full or continental breakfast (options as eggs benedict offered). 8. Efficient, quick and friendly service given by staff in the restaurant. 9. A satisfactory standard of cleanliness. 10. On the whole nicely appointed bathrooms with bath/shower (however see my comments concerning the shower under 'What didn't you like?').
1. Limited choice of 'hotels' in the Longleat area. Only pub-type accommodation appeared available in the area from the website we booked with. 2. The single and double room on arrival originally promised by reception staff at the time of booking at ground floor level in the Annexe was changed on arrival to two on the 1st floor level. (One elderly guest in our party with walking difficulties had to negotiate the steep winding staircase to access it leading of a landing). When we asked for the rooms to be changed back to being those sited in the Annexe, the staff informed us that the Annexe rooms were kept for guests with dogs! None of us took animals to stay. 3. Evening meal bill for the party of four was not clearly itemised. Argument subsequently ensued after the evening meal between myself and staff concerning what appeared to be one item for £4 included on the bill! A petty amount you may say; but to us still significant. We were informed that one system of the 'cash till' did not accord with another but the amount would be rectified on our final bill, what ever this meant. It wasn't. This hotel need to present professional clearly itemised bills for their meals and drinks. The final bills for the stay appeared to be clear. 4. The quality of the evening meal cooking appeared average for an AA 2 Rosette awarded hotel Chef. 5. The mixer shower in 'Geisha Room' came off separate hot and cold taps in the bath and was difficult to adjust to get the right temperature; there is a health and safety issue here as on several occasions the water became scolding hot as it wandered between hot and cold. One of the single occupancy rooms we booked had better a proper easily adjustable mixer shower. the shower in 'Geisha' needs an urgent upgrade. 6.
Rooms were lovely, the beds were extremely comfortable. very clean, staff friendly, food was excellent, all in all a fabulous stay. Perfect location for visiting longleat safari.
Location was good, outside and bar garden was lovely.
Not a 4 star hotel, maybe 3 star at the most. Under staffed, overcooked and undercooked food: Breakfast really greasy! The room was shabby with old paint and stains, cracked tiles and taps that need fixing. Not as advertised.
Excellent staff that went the extra mile for my husband for his birthday - thanks for the free upgrade! Thanks Sasha :-) Travel cot in room as promised too - baby slept all night :-) Irish bar lady a real gem! (Sorry didn't know name) Hope to visit again soon
The food in the restaurant was very limited and very expensive.
The situation and garden. Breakfast was good
My shower was hard to get the correct temperature
Rooms were querky
Placed in an attic room with a small fan and no facility to open a window on the hottest night of the year!!
Excellent beds, big room, staff always friendly and helpful, breakfast variety delicious, calm, in the middle of nature.
No change of towels during our stay, always humid, carpet and bathroom were not well cleaned.
Food not great Slow service
Carpets filthy dirty - Room was dusty and woodlice on the floor and a spider in the bed. Wardrobe was dusty and about 50 years old. Bathroom was empty and bath cracked. There was NO room service - they didnt even pick up the phone. A JOKE not worth £40 a night let alone £150 ??? MADNESS
Good location & the staff were friendly but inexperienced. £25 discount due to my complaints.
Very tired decor in public areas & bedroom. Poor bedroom facilities, no toiletries, poor lighting in bedroom (2 table lamps, 1 not working on arrival ) Poor bathroom lighting & awfull mirror, chipped bath. Bad service at breakfast, sat next to an uncleared & dirty table. Still waiting for ketchup for my 'ultimate' sausage sandwich comprising 2 slices of dry thin pre cut bread.
Lovely pub hotel, excellent staff and it was very relaxing, clean and comfortable. All in all good value for money will certainly go back and recommend to friends
Bathroom sanitary ware was shabby
