Staff were extremely acccomodating from the moment we arrived til the moment we left. The spa facilities were 5* and the couples massage we booked was the best I've ever experienced - it's a must! Room slightly over priced.

We booked this hotel to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with great expectations, and we were not disappointed. This beautiful hotel offers everything you could want. The service is exceptional without being intrusive, and the food was amazing. The spa facilities just add to the pleasure of a stay at this hotel. Yes, it is expensive, but worth every penny. Nothing, we could not fault this hotel.

The hotel was beautifully decorated and furnished. It was in a nice spot and easy to walk in to town from. The staff were very helpful. Our room was extremely hot. Even with the radiators off and all windows open, we could not sleep unless we had a fan on. I hate to think what it would be like in the height of summer. The hotel is close to a kindergarten and the children can be heard playing out in the morning.

Staff were always wonderful. Our room - honeysuckle - lovely and always serviced superbly and generously. The food though pricey was excellent. Public rooms and garden a delight. Easy and very attractive walk to city through park or a bus is literally outside the gate Breakfast we thought was overpriced at £20 for only a continental breakfast and though it was all delicious there was a limited supply of fruits. Marmalade and jam portionts were tiny and we had to ask for more - all willingly given though.

From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, the staff treated us with the utmost respect and courtesy. Despite the high cost (relatively speaking of course) of the room there was no air of pretentiousness or snobbery. We felt very relaxed. When staff discovered it was my boyfriend's birthday, they surprised us after dinner with a selection of treats from the chef and after the spa with a small gift bag. The superior room was impressive and the location was spot on; not too near the city but within a short walk or taxi ride. I would highly recommend this hotel. Perhaps tea or coffee making facilities or a fridge might have been offered in the room although perhaps this wouldn't be quite in keeping. It certainly didn't detract from our enjoyment of a wonderful stay.

The hotel looks very impressive on arrival and has a very nice drawing room. our whole experience was very disappointing. We arrived to find there was no one to help with our luggage which was a pain as it was pouring with rain. You are told, not asked that you will be taken on a tour of the hotel before being shown to your room (not really what you need after a 3 hour drive). Room was pretty enough with nice views over the gardens. Found it a little strange there were no drink making facility or mini bar in the room considering there is no designated bar area in the hotel either. Called to make reservation for dinner at the in house Michelin star Resturant which is one of the main reasons we choose this hotel over others in the area. We went down to dinner a little early to get a drink to be told that I wasn't appropriately dressed for the Resturant. (I was wearing a blazer, White shirt and brand new very dark jeans with shoes, also brand new. Was told there was no denim in the Resturant. When I queried that it didn't say this on their website (no sportswear or trainers) I was told there could be no exceptions as these were the rules. Was given a list of alternative restaurants in town which were mainly chains pizza expres, prezzo etc. We ended up going into town in the pouring rain. Guttering outside our room was blocked so had a very bad nights sleep due to the noise of the water pouring onto our balcony. Breakfast was mediocre (additional £25 per person) eggs overcooked, muffins undercooked and possibly the worst coffee I've had in years. Spa facalities are ok and the pool is nice. No robes in the spa after being told there would be. After pointing out that I wasn't happy with pretty much everything I was told that most other guests leave happy I was then interrupted 3 times whilst reading the paper twice to ask if I need anything and once for the manager to attempt a half hearted apology.

Excellent hotel and staff, couldn't fault the place in all honesty. My only criticism would be having to pay for breakfast as an extra when you're already paying £300 per night for a double room.

The staff and food were excellent. The spa facilities did not meet expectations and the hotel is much closer to the main road than photos suggest.
