Homely welcome. Friendly and obliging staff. Good overnight stay
Staff attentive and cheerful. Good breakfast.
The whole place needed a good deep clean. The stairs to bedroom very steep (we are almost 80 yrs. old) problems with the shower drainage.
Right in the middle of the village and the room though small was clean and had all facilities.
Breakfast was not up to standard, broken poached egg, greasy black pudding and a staff member who needs a lesson in customer relations.
Location excellent - clean and well decorated room
Room 3 over the bar a bit noisy if you want to go to bed early and a bit small
Location is good. Car parking nearby with 50p honesty box
Staff reluctant to serve and or stay up past 11pm! Poor selection of fresh fruit at breakfast. Cooked food very greasy at breakfast
We liked the location where the hotel was
Price / Breakfast (full English to die for...) / staff / extras in the room
Cramped room / internal corridors clearly a work in progress / no lift
Location was great, staff were very friendly and helpful, very tasty poached egg at breakfast.
Couldn't use the shower properly as the showerbowl did not drain and I didn't want it to overflow, and I was told on checking out (I know I should have said something immediately but it was late and I was wet and didn't want to get dressed and go down to the bar) that yes, that shower always gives problems - not what I wanted to hear, put me in a different room from the start please. Shwr door broken, maintenance needed. Bar jukebox noisy but that goes with a room over the bar.
Staff were very helpful. Accommodated our early arrival. Good pub food and excellent breakfast.
Basic accommodation - mould in bathroom, tired facilities, over priced.
Friendly staff and good ,filling breakfast.
Room was shabby and not particularly clean. To get to the room you had to go through the bar where the locals tended to stare at you.Music played in the bar until quite late.
Great location, great service & a good breakfast.
Rooms although newly refurbished are quite small but all you need.
breakfast food was very good
Coffee at breakfast
in the town
Nice village. The beer was decent.
I don't get how this place has good reviews. The previous landlords must have been good, because the new ones (we were told they had taken over two months ago) were not. They accidentally booked our friends in for the wrong day, so the place was full and they had to stay across the road. When we arrived back at the pub about 2am, there was no staff to be seen and the place was filled with people smoking weed and drinking. I don't have a problem with this in principle, but when the pub is supposed to close at 11pm, it's pretty annoying being kept awake by people who shouldn't be there. There was also mould in the bathroom, the shower head was broken and the curtain rail fell off when I tried to close the curtains.
Perfectly adequate , 5 star it ain't but friendly. Breakfast was v good. Free parking opposite. There are smarter properties in town but they're dearer!
Bit scruffy round the edges, few cobwebs bit of dust
The whole place looked run down and dreary The carpets looked uncleaned And the room was very small Not a £70 a night room more like £40. Didn't even stay in the end went somewhere else
small room, very uncomfortable, ill fitting sheets, curtains not lined, very small shower with scalding water. whole place in need of a refurb
Location- right in middle of the village, lovely breakfast, lovely evening meal. Staff were friendly. Crisp clean sheets on the bed. We were on 2nd floor so quite quiet. Would not have liked to have been on the floor above the pub as would have been noisy. The food here was good so it is a shame it was let down by the accommodation.
Whole place in need of an overhaul and good clean. Our room was never serviced the 3 nights we stayed so no fresh towels etc. Shower tray didn't drain very well so standing in pool of water. Booked a superior room but it really wasn't apart from the huge bed (2 singles together) Very steep stairs. photos are very deceiving. Realise it is an old building but the decor and cleanliness need to be sorted.Sorry but wouldn't stay again & we are not hard to please- very disappointed and thought it very overpriced for the standard. Not a 4 star establishment!
Food quality not that good
Bar food was delicious and the breakfast superb. The Black Sheep Ale the best we've ever had it! The room was comfortable although small and there was no noise from any other part of the pub or outside. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
The fact that when we arrived, the booking through Bookings.com was not in the diary! However the member of staff had no worry over this and immediately found us a very comfortable double room.
The bedroom was clean and adequate. The bathroom was clean but the shower was poor as the shower head was tied on with a plastic tie up and couldnt be moved. The staff were a bit quirky but very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was good and the lady serving it was very helpful.
The pub area is tired and a bit grimy especially the carpets. The tables felt like they had not had a good clean in a long time. Had a meal in the first evening and was not impressed. Took over an hour for it to be brought to our table after we had ordered it. Asked for no mushrooms on the burger and it arrived covered in mushrooms.Felt like it had been cooked by someone who had no idea what they were doing and all three meals were badly presented.Had a look in the kitchen and it it didnt look clean so skipped breakfast on the second day.
food, beer, staff, room, location
Noise of traffic
bed spring's in no 6 no 3 is a fab room .
Excellent breakfast. Set us up for the day,
The bed was a little lumpy and a lot of noise from the road. Their internet had been down and when we arrived they had know knowledge of our booking. Fortunately they were able to fit us in as it was only night; suggest you ring to confirm.
