You can access Rothesay & The isle of bute travelling with Caledonian Mcbrayne Ferries, from Wemyss Bay. You can access Wemyss Bay from Glasgow City Centre by a direct bus service - bus 906 operated by McGills. The ferry service between Wemyss and Rothesay runs daily at a hourly service. It's a lovely ferry crossing too, takes around 35min.
Now in Rothesay, there is plenty to do. Rothesay is a charming small town with a small amount of decent shops & eateries. There is also Rothesay Castle, located in the centre of the town which is well worth visiting.
You can access most of the island using the bus company called west coast motors. A 24hr Adult Bus Day Ticket is only £4.50.
When I was on the island I used Bus Service 490, Rhubodach To Ettrick Bay Via Rothesay. Its a very scenic Bus journey indeed.
If you are into your hiking & walking, Ettrick Bay & Rhubodach at the north of the island are fabulous places for a relaxing walk.
Thankyou for reading my review ☺️.

A beautiful peaceful quiet island with so many scenic bays with the most amazing views . Lots of little cafes with reasonably priced food and pleasant staff . Very good bus service with friendly helpful drivers. Mount Stuart is one of the finest pieces of gothic architecture anywhere and the gardens are a joy to behold not too mention the magnificent castle

I was born on Bute, my trip was to visit relatives & show my husband more of my birthplace.
Bute is truly 'Bute'iful, the scenery is stunning, locals are really friendly & we weren't disappointed by the little cafes we visited, fish n chips from the Kettledrum, some of the best we've had.
Shame the Castle wasn't open, but everything else was as I remembered it, lovely to see the fountain working.

Very friendly and easy to get about the island good bus service.
Food very good and good hospitality hotel pubs cafes restaurants .
Just do your own thing and relax if you want .
The scenery is second to none and ferry and train travel very good and punctual.
Located on the waterfront of the beautiful isle of Bute, this place isn't much to look at from the outside, but it's a real treat once you're inside. Lovingly and amazingly themed in 1960s USA, it is full of fun and interesting memorabilia. But the hotel is great for so much more - thoughtfully appointed rooms and a very comfortable bed, a diner with genuinely tasty burgers, kindly and friendly staff. Great value for money. See if you can get a room at the front.
Room was very comfortable and supplied with tea/coffee and biscuits, slippers are also supplied,we had booked the room with the balcony but it is in fact a large private terrace with plenty seats and a table with amazing views, the ferry terminal is 2 minutes walk away as is the town centre, the owners David and Amy are lovely and the freshly cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious using fresh local produce, highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.
Everything. The location was perfect, right across from the water, and within walking distance to Rothesay. The house itself is roomy and has everything you could want. The grounds are spacious and Carolynn and John encourage you to play on the front lawn with the various garden games they provide in the shed next to the house. They are very kind and provide little touches such as milk and biscuits, shampoo and conditioner and even disposable barbecues.
Breakfast was cooked to order, with a good choice. My wife likes fresh fruit each morning and this was available. Our room was spacious; the bed was very comfortable; en-suite facilities were excellent. Tea & Coffee supplied in the room for us to use when we wished was most welcome. The hotel is beautifully situated on the waterfront with only a 5-minute walk into Rothesay along a nice palm-tree-lined promenade - what is there not to like about that?
everything! location within walking distance of the town and easy access to the countryside and costal paths, the views from the property overlooking the harbour/town, the property is beautifully maintained and provides you with a warm family welcome, the rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and provide great facilities. The property is the home of a wonderful family who make you feel special and welcomed to the Isle of Bute.
We stay on Bute often visiting family and have stayed at a number of flats and hotels we found this property one of the best we have stayed in. The bathroom had recently been upgraded including a new shower which was very good. The kitchen was well equipped with a washer, oven & dishwasher (which we never used but did appreciate) The apartment was lovely and warm with views that are breathtaking!
It's the location that is perfect overlooking the Rothesay Harbour, and the with convenience of having everything on your doorstep, including the Co-op literally beneath you with the facility of having freshly baked croissants from them every morning. It is also a nice modern apartment. Our third stay in three years.
The owner at Cadillac Customz is a person you HAVE to meet when visiting Rothesay, and the hotel is an unmissable spot. We had filming crew staying at the hotel, whilst we were shooting on the island and they had the best time chatting to the owner and snoozing at this unique spot.
Everything was amazing in the new apartment. Luxury bathroom, fantastic views, everything you could wish for & more. Nice little bar was a lovely surprise. Will be our go to place when we come to Rothesay now.
Location was superb, view from the terrace, exceptional, value was unbelievable, all the staff were so helpful & friendly, loved the olde world charm of the Hotel, can't wait to return.
I liked everything about the hotel. The waterfront view from our room was lovely. The staff were very helpful. The breakfasts were more than adequate in addition to being delicious.
Beautiful hotel, very pet friendly which was lovely. Super comfy beds. Room was spotless clean, lovely toiletries and well stocked tea tray. Would go back no problem.
Not all rooms have a sea view, but those that do have a fantastic view over Rothesay bay. Room was clean and tidy. Five minute walk from the ferry terminal.
The location is/was excellent, having visited Rothesay many many times I knew the Hotel and its location, convenient for Town Centre and various attractions
Great location only a few minutes walk to ferry terminal and town centre of Rothesay. Nice view looking out over the sea and apartment was clean and tidy.
Wonderful location on the coast with fantastic views across Rothesay Bay.
Breakfast very good with excellent porridge and a proper full cooked breakfast
