The staff were very polite .
Food was below standard , room was not what was advertised , TV limited channels , no DVD player ,bed side lamp did not work ,
Very friendly hosts who volunteered to assist with a change of arrangements because of a flight change - including the charges. Much appreciated. Has a cosy pub feel and happily fits into that inviting country pub category.
Our ensuite was very small and I had a large brick-like pillow which was a challenge. There was a bit of family flotsam at the base of the guest stairs which detracted a little from an otherwise comfy feel. It was Xmas though so is understandable.
Owner was very accommodating and very friendly keen to be of assistance nice evening meal
Spent 45 minutes trying to find it with sat nav and phoning for directions it's located down a dead end with no sign posting hotel looks like it is Middle of refurbishment paint splashes all over furniture parts of it still needing updating no one about when I got up for breakfast so didn't bother stopping
Kind and very friendly atmosphere. Would stay here again.
The Beacon and Railway Hotel is great value. I found the staff and proprietor friendly and helpful and the room to be spotless. The location is quiet and parking ample. It's really close to Gloucester, Stroud and Stonehouse. I shall be back.
Rooms although on the small side were good value.
The food was ok some of it was not very hot when it was served. The breakfast was passable but again the bacon and mushrooms were stone cold.
The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the food was divine .
comfortable, warm, quiet.
Difficult to find even with satnav in car. Manager was a little disorganised, as when we said we'd like breakfast he said Ok and then didn't even turn up.
Location - close to Gloucester but in countryside setting. Convenient for motorway. Comfortable room for 2 adults and 2 children, aged 17 and 13. Excellent value for money - both the room and the beautiful, freshly-cooked breakfast (£5 pp).
Shaver point in the bathroom wasn't working and a lightbulb above the bed needed replacing. The over-bath shower did not seem to get above luke-warm in the morning, although the water was hot to fill the bathtub at night.
We booked this place because it was one of the reasonable ones in the area. The size of the room and the bathroom - comfy bed means I can sleep well despite the train sound - staff are lovely & very accommodating - room was not heated enough when we arrive and she brought an extra heater for us. This was my second time there and I must say, the pictures on here does not do justice to the lovely place they have there!
The WiFi was not working in our room, although the first time we were there, it worked quite well. It must be the location of the room there.
Friendly staff, great food. loved the little dog who came up to welcome us. good parking, and just a great stay.
- Lovely staff - Big size room - Big bathroom with bath - Comfy beds - Immaculately clean - Free parking (plenty) - The hotel is directly opposite a railway (as it's name suggests) which may be a problem for some however we only saw one train during our stay and we didn't hear any noise whilst inside the building
Everything. Great value and the proprietors were so helpful.
Cant think of anything we didn't like.
The room was good and comfortable, no instructions for the shower though which was a bit dodgy. We obviously picked a weekend when the owners were away but the staff were good and friendly.
We didnt like the chips with the meal they were not very warm and a bit under done. We were brought more chips which we had to eat on there own because we'd eaten the rest and although they were hot still a bit hard in the middle.
Helpful staff, nice breakfast, easy access to room, comfortable room
It's by a railway line which didn't bother us as we both wear ear plugs, plus I think trains stop running during the night. They should consider getting double glazed windows put in though
Friendly and helpful team serving good food. Wonderful view across fields. Quiet village but not isolated.
Bed was too soft which reactivated a back problem causing a sleepless night!
Welcoming owners and 'pubby' atmosphere was fine by us. Dinner portions were generous and service was pleasant and friendly. Rooms were maybe a little old fashioned, but the beds were comfortable and had everything to hand. It was live music night in the bar, but luckily the act was good quality and pulled in a lively local crowd, so the night was fun.
The railway line really is very nearby and noisy until you get used to it. The trains stop around midnight, though, so sleep was undisturbed.
They were so welcoming they made us feel more like family than guests. Really good tasty food - great value and a really charming country location!
Access. Hard to find. Had to get my son to lead me there in the dark
Great ales sold in downstairs pub
Hotel is quite far away from everything
Proximity to high speed train, but did not keep us awake. Late night and morning few trains were running.
Location - quite and peaceful Bedrooms - all differen, clean, and very charming Perfect for romantic weekend or weekend with group of friends Staff - friendly and very helpful
Love the location right next to the busy railway line......possibly not so good if you are not keen on trains!
Wifi didn't work in the room
Uncomfortable mattress. Could feel the springs.
