The rooms look basic until you get inside, and then although the furniture could be updated the views from my room were amazing, which made up for the furniture, and anyway it was clean so does it really matter if the furniture is a little jaded? The staff are very friendly and the food is great. My room was clean and comfortable, and the village is beautiful. There was no where to plug in my hair dryer and see in the mirror unless I unplugged the tv. The view was fantastic, but I wish I couldn't see the area where they burn the rubbish.

Bedrooms improved. Good management. Good bar TV. Excellent breakfast. Food very disappointing; new chef hopeless. TV set too small and too far from beds.

The room waws clean and comfortable. The evening meal was really good Unfortunately we didn't get much sleep because the toilets in adjoining rooms make an awful lot of noise and woke us up 3 times. Seek plumbing help!

The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a lovely view of the valley from our room. The location to Burwash village is perfect. The bed was comfortable and the room and en-suite clean. The food was really great for the money. The breakfast was amazing included in the price! The restaurant was a little tired and the chairs a little uncomfortable, but the food was so good it didn't matter too much.

Clean, simple, convenient. Breakfast was good. Room was cold on entry but warmed up pretty quickly. Would have liked two easy chairs in the double room. Receptionist was confused between lunch and room bookings

the room was clean with a good tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was of modern style and had a very good shower that always supplied more than enough hot water through out our stay. To have sliding doors in the room that led onto a covered patio and an uninterrupted view of the countryside was a bonus that wouldn't have expected for such a reasonably priced room. Service from the adjoining pub was always good. Nothing to dislike, the room was very good value for money.

We enjoyed spending two nights at the Bear just to get away from it all. Breakfast excellent; very friendly. Did not have any other meals at the hotel as we were out and about quite a bit. The room was very cold, and took a long time to heat up. The heating came on some time during the afternoon, stayed on all night, so if we came back to our room earlier in the afternoon it was very cold!!

The rooms were spacious with beautiful views of the surrounding country side. We also appreciated that the rooms are not attached to the hotel which ensured a restful sleep. The breakfast was excellent.

Excellent large rooms, good food and country pub atmosphere. Downside of proximity to the pub is the noise level until closing at around midnight.

Did not serve breakfast until 8am. I had to leave at 7.30, which I explained, and asked if I could have cereal -"no, the chef is not here".

What a lovely location! We had a very nice room that had patio doors opening out onto a little terrace, from where there were was great views over the valley, lovely to open them wide on a sunny morning and enjoy tea in bed whilst almost being in the garden, (ask for rooms 5-8 for this). It was very peaceful, good viewing for stars with very little light pollution, and we saw a shooting star whilst sitting in the pub garden in the evening, a magical romantic moment. The staff were very friendly and obliging, and the food was good and more than enough, I even had to turn down a pudding because I was so stuffed! We only stayed one night but this retreat is definately on my list for a longer return visit, and so much to see in the area, an excellent choice.

At face value the motel is good - clean, staff very helpful when I needed to check in early, nice room BUT the walls are so thin I hardly slept for the noise of listening to other peoples conversations and the person in the room next door snoring so loudly I thought he was in the same room. I would not stay there again.

Staff, quality, comfort and cost For a vegetarian, the breakfast is rather limited, the addition of yoghurt might have helped, it is in fact OK but typical for a hotel of its type, so no real criticism at all, I bought yoghurt etc.,at a very helpful and friendly Londis store in the village.
