Absolutely happy with everything!Staff made us feel like VIP's ,accomodation was 1st class!! We'll certainly be back soon!!!!
Friendly, helpful staff, nicely decorated comfortable rooms, excellent food. Great location on the seafront.
Although staff did all they could, being an older, somewhat rambling hotel, it is not ideal for someone confined to a wheelchair
Friendly and helpful staff Excellent location Character of the building Delicious breakfast Outstanding views
Having to leave!
We had a side view room of the sea and very comfortable beds. Bathroom needs to be updated, as it was small but serviceable for our needs. Excellent position on the front. Service was superb with great eye for detail. Will definitely recommend The Bedford.
Room & breakfast
LACK of any parking, or deal with car park across the road.
I used the hotel while visiting for my father's funeral. The staff were sympathetic and took the time to be exceptionally helpful. Their attitude makes a good hotel into an excellent one. All the fundamentals from food choice, cleanliness, outfit of the rooms etc was great - as you might hope for, but the staff were simply superb.
Great location, good breakfast, friendly staff. Large room provided with comfortable double bed, Sidmouth is a pretty seaside town with good range of independant shops and restaurants. I would recommend staying again.
Limited parking spaces at hotel.
welcome with cup of tea and biscuits, comfortable room, good breakfast and good food in residents dining room and restaurant. The offer made it excellent value.
Prefer a shower cubicle rather than shower over bath.
Brilliant sea view, lovely staff, nice breakfast though a touch mean (one egg, one sausage when you just order egg/bacon and sausage).
The staff were friendly and welcoming, of particular note the receptionist, porter and restaurant staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The offer of complementary tea on arrival was a lovely touch. Comfortable rooms, food prepared with care and very reasonable. We could not fault anything.
Lack of car parking was a small inconvenience.
The staff were very friendly and polite and nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were very clean and roomy. The resturaunt was good and the menu good quality, and well presented. The location was great right in the heart of the town. Had a lovely stay
The old windows were draughty and a bit noisey due to other in considerate guests rather than the hotels fault . Car parking is poor although there was a public car park opposite a charge of £12 per day was a bit steep
We enjoyed almost everything. Bathrooms rather antiquated but very clean.
Quaint hotel with lovely staff A slow pace relaxing spot Lift was a blessing
Wifi only near reception Older hotel with lots of history- parking limited on site but paid parking across the road
Excellent friendly staff. Super room. Good food.
Clean, fresh, tidy, excellent breakfasts with a good choice, friendly and efficient staff, good seafront location with views. Dined out mainly, but good curries in the Pyne's bar at front of the hotel.
The lack of car parking. Our visit was in early October and it was difficult to find a place to park before 5pm then. It must be far more difficult in high summer. The car park opposite the hotel entrance (in Station Rd) is VERY expensive if staying long-term/overnight.
Food was very good and staff were particularly helpful and friendly. Rooms were very comfortable with great views.
Staff were lovely, great location, value and service - I left a charger in my room and by the time I got home had an email letting me know and it was posted to me right away.
Breakfast tasted as though pre cooked and reheated but everything else was so good this didn't matter.
The staff deserve a special mention. They went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. Especially the reception girls and the porter. A good second were the bar and dining room staff. I certainly will come again.
The bed I had was hard... that's all I can find to gripe about.
All members of staff were excellent and the courteous offer of tea or coffee upon arrival was appreciated - as much for the thought as the refreshment.
One would need to be a particularly unreasonable or difficult guest to find fault - bearing in mind the price paid too. Not too keen on the spelling of travellers in this questionaire though! There are two "l"s!
Room No38 was located next to the lift, so until late night we were not able to sleep. If I knew, that I will have a room next to elevator, I will cancel my reservation immediately. This sort of information should not be kept as a secret. This is not funny to find out upon arrival about room like this to be only available. Thank you courtesy of a Lady from Reception, we were able to swap for much pleasant room (No21) for the second night. Breakfast: a place in the dining room was allocated to us for the duration of the stay, even though there were tables with a sea view available. We were left in a dark corner!!! The Housekeeper took the order for the breakfast and disappeared for 15 minutes . There was a few people, who come late than us, but received breakfast in the first place. Lack of organisation. When I asked the Housekeeper about a chance for a better table for the next day breakfast, she start repeating that ''the customers from this sea view tables don't like if some else is occupying their table''...... ????? Just unbelievable! During daytime, Lady from Reception, very kindly invited us for the evening diner. However, at the evening, when I asked for a table and possibility to place order (7:45pm) the Housekeeper showed me her watch and said that was to late. She said that are another restaurants around this hotel, so we should try to go somewhere else???? We were very upset and fed up with her attitude. Once more I asked her about a nice table for the next day breakfast. She said again, that is not possible because....is not possible. I had enough for this evening and I asked to speak to her Manager. The Manager/Owner apologised for this situation and offered the table in the Restaurant nearby. Also for the next day breakfast. He explained, that most of the guests are Seniors and the Hotel is doing a favour for them with the allocated tables....
Good location on the promenade Enjoyable cooked breakfast Relaxing bar Comfortable, spacious room
Old style "goods lift" with heavy concertina type inner door. Many older guests clearly had trouble operating this lift.
food excellent good choices Staff helpfull.smart and friendly
shower very small
Good location overlooking beach. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff generally helpful except for one evening in Phynes when bar man and one of hotel waiters bullied two females of our family group.(Booking.com note your site doesn't have this as a choice under question one).
The quaint tradition of keeping guests at same table in dining room for all meals throughout their stay regardless of their arrival time for a meal and refusing to move them even after the guests leave the hotel or the dining area. This means if your unlucky enough to get a dark, dingy corner of the dining room, as we were, you're there for the duration of the stay. Would be better to seat guests as they arrive (for breakfast and dinner) so at least there is the opportunity for guests to have different tables during their stay rather than having a " bagging" system. Could also make up tables again so that once early diners had left next group could get option of a different seat. Expensive compared to other similar hotels possibly because of the age group they cater for (over 65).
