On the Exe Estuary, The Globe Hotel is an attractive 16th-century travelers inn situated in the center of Exeter’s historic port town. Its Elizabethan restaurant serves fresh, local food.
Score from 197 reviews Excellent
The outstanding feature was the quality of the staff - they were cheerful polite and helpful and seemed genuinely to be enjoying their work. Our room was large and well appointed with a very comfortable bed Breakfast in the attractive dining room was first class
The uneven floors where our bedroom was located were very uneven and my wife who has rheumatoid arthritis felt quite insecure for much of the time We were disappointed by the evening meal in the dining room on our first eveningThere was only a very restricted choice which surprised us as there were copies of an excellent a la carte menu prominently available at the entrance to the dining room - we assumed that these were for the dining room and only later discovered they were for the nearby smaller more informal bar and restaurant. The quality of food was mediocre although the service was very good. (On the following night we ate in the bar and were very satisfied with the food and service) The towel rail in the bathroom on the first night was dangerously hot
Location, staff and breakfast and general cleanliness.
Pillows were hard, uncomfortable.
Lovely room, great view, balcony etc. Comfortable, clean and cosy. Staff very friendly and helpful - everything I needed.
It was a bit noisy at night and I had the window open as it was warm and I could hear the crowds on the outside - but then it was Folk Week!
We had a sea front room with balcony with excellent views. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.
There is no Wi-Fi for residents.
Almost everything -the hotel, the room, the breakfast, the location!
Shame about the limited amount of free parking, but it was an incentive to abandon the car and enjoy the delights of Sidmouth on foot.
Really friendly staff, right on the sea front and a great breakfast.
The whole town seems to go to bed by 9 o clock
location welcome excellent breakfast staff
Room was lovely- nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. Breakfast and evening meal excellent and good value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent seafront location.
Parking was difficult - had to pay for 24hr stay on the nearby public car park. Rather small reception area which diminishes the overall ambience of the place.
the sea veiw
cobwebs on the balcony
Great view of the sea. Good choice for breakfast. Easy to get to Folk Week locations, including in the hotel itself.
Location Some lovely staff
Some very unhelpful Staff Room basic Unable to get 2 keys to our room and we often did different things - in this day an age, at the price of the room, that is outrageous. Breakfast Bouncy bed, so with two people any movement disturbed the other.
Very convenient for Folk Week. Breakfast good. Room a little dated but adequate for us. Paid extra for a sea view, which was brill.
A bit pricey, but it was Folk Week, so happy to pay for the convenience of access to the town centre. I would have been really happy if the bar was able to have had a really tasty quality (guest) real ale in addition to the standard Otter ales.
Staff friendly and very good chef
Great position, great atmosphere, cheerful and extremely helpful staff.
Great place to stay during folk week, lovely atmosphere and easy to meet people. Good events at the hotel. Excellent breakfast service.
Very poor broadband. Recommend investing in a booster so that guests in the more remote rooms don't have to access the internet from the landing.
The room was dated and the bathroom was out of the seventies. For £150 per night this hotel was appalling.
The staff at this hotel are marvellous. They are all so cheerful and helpful with local knowledge at their fingertips. The hotel is very pleasant. It reflects its Georgian roots and has two decent lounges for the residents. I had a single room, facing the front, which was reasonably large and airy. I have certainly stayed in smaller single rooms. The food at the Bedford is superb. Hot breakfasts (locally sourced) are served freshly cooked and are delicious, and there is a good range of other products if cooked is not to your taste. Dinners are equally good and extremely good value. Pyne's Restaurant is similarly good. All in all, a very pleasant stay and I look forward to a repeat visit.
I feel the showers could possibly be updated.
great location, wonderful facilities, great food, friendly staff, plenty to do, or not to do!
The location of the hotel couldn't be better. The room had wonderful views and was a good size and clean. The food was well cooked and presented. The staff were helpful.
The bathroom was a bit small. The residents lounge was crammed with large furniture and tables, which was a shame as the room itself was very nice. There was not a lot of parking allocated to the hotel.
Historic building which retains the character of the Regency Period with modern up to date facilities. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ideal position on the sea front.
Very limited parking which I think the hotel could tell customers beforehand.
Bar Staff Breakfast staff Lounge area
Unimaginative breakfasts -no fresh fruit -only tinned. Awful coffee. No Wi fi ! Carpet in the bathroom -yuk! Useless shower. Noisy extractor fan. Hopeless thin curtains. Muzak at breakfast was the same every morning. No parking. Poor reception area.
We loved the position of the hotel and the bar and dining for casual diners was very good. The food in the Pynes Bar was excellent and well presented and reasonably priced.
The parking was a major drawback and not that easy to negotiate. The dining room whilst excellent for brakfast was not very appealing for an evening meal; too open and too much light I think.
I was visiting my friendswith my mother for her 85th birthday. Our rooms were spotless and comfortable. We had single rooms and - joy of joys - sea views with opening windows! It is rare to get a good single room and this is a bonus. The staff were professional and helpful. Mum even received a personally hand written card form the hotel owner. Breakfast was very good and we were helped with parking and loading cases. It all made a lovely stay even better. Attention to detail is so important.
Most of the staff were excellent The bedroom was well decorated and very clean.
The dinng room staff need to be trained o a higher standard with regard to serving food.
