The Bell at Skenfrith  

The bedroom was comfortabe, well-appointed and clean. Staff were attentive, efficient and friendly.

The disappointment was the food. Having a steak and small cottage pie on the same plate seemed an odd combination and charging £11 for 3 scallops as a starter was not good value for money. In general, portions were on the small size. For one breakfast apricots had been mixed with what seemed like olives rather than prunes which must have been a mistake by the kitchen.

The staff were delightful. The room was delightful, and the shower was fantastic!

Very nice room, well appointed with quality furnishings. Great location. Staff well trained & friendly.

Food was average. Generally underseasoned. Service was far too quick. If we hadn't asked them to slow down we would have been finshed slightly after 8pm. Great breakfast though.

The Bell is situated in the most beautiful countryside with wonderful walks right from the door. It is very quiet and the log fire was permanently blazing.

The bedroom and dining room were on the chilly side.

Friendly welcome, not often nowadays do you get shown to your room. Excellent food; breakfasts and dinners. Room capacious and well maintained. A useful touch are the separate reading lights - too many hotels these days are quite gloomy in the rooms. Location is very good in attractive,and on our visit, snow covered countryside. A very enjoyable short stay.

Always has been a favourite because of the relaxed ethos and the 'get away from it all' feel of the location

Warm welcome, beautiful, spotless room with excellent facilities and a personal touch, homemade shortbread, fresh milk and bed turned down and room freshen up while at dinner. Log fire in bar, very cosy. Fantastic locally sourced and home grown food and huge and comprehensive wine and champagne menu! Views overlooking the river Monnow and hillsides. Excellent walks and the hotel provide leaflets and maps for walking expeditions for all abilities. Happy to accept dogs in the bar and when attended in rooms. A really relaxing short break.

Organisation of the dinner not matching the cuisine. Staff very nice and hardworking but should have a routine to greet at rush hour evryone individually to let them feel more at home.

Relaxed atmosphere, attentive, welcoming staff Country Inn charm, but with a feeling of luxury and attention to detail Delicious food with a good wine list and bar stock.

Lacked a sense of time and place - no village bar so once inside there is no sense of it once having been the local pub. I doubt if locals would feel welcome there.

Splendid room with real coffee and home-made biscuits in the room. Great bathroom. Excellent dinner. The best breakfast for years.

Excellent bedroom/bathroom, lovely atmosphere and food. Relaxing and quiet. Lovely garden too. VERY comprehensive wine cellar.

No hand towels in men's toilet. No Dry Ginger for Scotch & Dry. Only small points, but a shame.

A lovely inn nestled in the Welsh countryside. It offers great hospitality, luxurious rooms, delicious food in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere.The efficient, friendly staff do everything to make their guests feel welcome.
