In Raglan Village, this 16th-century inn is close to the medieval castle, between Usk and the Wye Valley, well placed for the A40. It offers AA-Rosette dining, good wines, real ales and free internet....

Location Food excellent
Food delicious and staff very friendly and welcoming. Dinner menu was excellent along with a great choice for breakfast. Beautiful setting close to the river, castle and country walks. Great weather so was able to enjoy drinks in the garden. Delightful room with thoughtful extras, cafetiere coffee, hand baked biscuits and view over the river. Look forward to returning.
The rooms are all individual - and truly wonderful, with a level of cleanliness and attention to detail I've only previously seen in Dubai hotels. The housekeeping team are outstanding. The gardens are wonderful - spacious yet intimate and imaculately maintained. The small dining room in fine (though the waiting staff were never there when we arrived for meals (leaving us to meander around and cobble together a table setting) and little things like no servng spoon for what looked like a lovely breakfast fruit salad meant that kitchen staff may now have decided to ditch fruit salad, believing it to be unpopular! This is a truly wonderful place, right down to the menu - but sadly, it is the execution of that menu that lets this otherwise wonderful place down - badly...
The food was a disappointment. Breakfasts assembled from (some) previously cooked (and cold) elements, overdone scallops, - all a great shame, given the perfectly cooked fish main courses. This is a wonder ful place, with generally wonderful staff - It's just that kitchen that needs someone as wonderful, committed and skilled as the rest of the staff team.
Rooms and location, access to good walking
Some staff were brusque, others excellent. Messages on specific requirements were not always communicated between staff. Did not seem well organised. Confusion over room bookings made by phone. Make sure everything is in writing.
The staff were excellent, all very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Proximity to some wonderful walks, and a beautiful village, castle and church. Lovely to be able to see the bell's veggie garden.
All of it! Staff, Comfort, Food and wine list.
The staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are well thought out and beautifully furnished. The food was excellent with a good wine list. The peace and quiet of the location is unbeatable.
No shower (i didn't think to check this) and teh carpet between the bedroom and sitting area was in need of a clean
Ambience, history, very comfortable.
Breakfast coffee! Warm & watery.
Superb room and food was excellent. Hotel is situated in a lovely quiet location
fantastic room and food
This is a beautiful setting and combination of countryside walks, delicious menu and comfy rooms is just perfect.
Lovely large spacious room and a nice arm chair for sitting down. Good dining area and outside seating (except for the midges).
The step down into the bathroom from the bedroom was awkward and I nearly fell, since it was not really marked at all. There was no shower curtain, so a lot of my shower water landed on the floor1
Bedrooms, location, walks
One of the main courses was poor and not much of an apology was given. However when we went to pay the bill the following morning, the entire dinner cost was taken off the bill. Very much appreciated
Very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a weekend break. Lovely breakfast. Beautiful attic room with seperate lounge and bathroom. Lots of hot water. Nice touches in the bedroom including fresh milk in a flask for your tea/coffee plus very nice biscuits. Very helpful staff. Overall very good. Enjoyed it.
Would have liked a shower in the bathroom. Food very rich. Would have liked the option of the lunch menu main courses during the evening.
What a great time we had at this fantastic pub (more like a hotel really)! It's in an idyllic setting by a fast flowing river and a beautiful old Church in the heart of the Black Mountains. The lunch and evening menus are superb as is the breakfast. We dined on the most excellent dishes made with great local produce and lots of skill, washed down with good wines (although great local beers are also available). The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the plumbing is a little unreliable but who cares. All in all we had a wonderfully relaxed weekend in one of South Wales most beautiful areas.
Hotel very comfortable, room was very clean, never seen such beautiful white, soft hotel towels and sheets. Food and presentation was amazing, staff were all very friendly.Wonderful birthday treat. Big thank you to all at The bell and for my husband for booking it. Ann
That I only had the one night in such a lovely hotel.
Great staff, delicious food, lovely setting, beautiful country walks from the front door, fantastic, reasonably priced wine list,
Wonderful location, very nice room (Coachman), excellent food and friendly staff, would definately stay again.
Really good friendly welcome from everyone and nothing too much trouble.
Breakfast could be served from 8.30am rather than 9am.
warm and friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.
no table cloths during dining.
A relaxed atmosphere with excellent staff offering good food in very comfortable surroundings.
Can;t think of anything that we didn't like.
Classy establishment, high qulaity
Only minor faukts, not worth pusuing.
Room decor and quality tea/ coffee, toiletries etc. Breakfast was excellent and the free newspaper a bonus! Morning staff were very friendly.
Evening meal experience could have been better, as the lightening and decor were very harsh and baren in the 'end room'. We felt rushed and not welcomed particularly well by the chap behind the bar.
Total Experience, especially the food
Very Poor service at breakfast, 20 min to refill fresh orange juice, toaster a joke, 3 of us looking at but no help, did not realise butter was rationed 4 small portions for 7 tables
