Excellent,
Score from 66 reviews
“ The Bell at Ticehurst was a lovely, quirky and beautifully refurbished hotel. The hotel staff were most accomadating, especially when we phoned to say we were going to be later than expected and hadn't eaten. I would have liked to stay another night, but unfortunately I had to return to our school children! Next time we visit relatives we'll be back! ”

Offering charming, individually styled rooms, The Bell In Ticehurst is a delightfully quaint hotel in the pretty village of Ticehurst. It is a 15-minute drive from Bateman’s, the 17th-century home of Rudyard Kipling. There are quirky touches throughout the building, and the rooms contain traditional, unique, and inventive features. Every room has a silver birch tree in it, and the beds boast a handmade Somnus mattress. You can relax with a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy free toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. The Bell’s restaurant serves English cuisine with a twist, and there is an extensive cellar and selection of fine ales. A full cooked breakfast is provided each morning, with food made from high-quality local ingredients. Surrounded by glorious East Sussex countryside, the inn is 30 minutes’ walk from Pashley Manor Gardens. Bewl Water is a 10-minute drive away, and offers a wide range of watersports and opportunities for fly fishing. Inn: 7 rooms , Hotel Chain: Recommended Hotels. I just absolutely loved it!!!! I felt really welcome relaxed but also felt very spoilt with all the luxury, the food was beautiful. I own my own restaurant so I understand the work that goes into running a business but I never once felt like anything was to much to ask from any of the staff. So when we left not only did I feel happy and relaxed, I also felt very envious that "The Bell" isn't mine :0)

Everything! Passionate staff, gloriously quirky rooms and design, great food and comfort: I thought this place looked great when I booked it on the website, but it exceeded my expectations on arrival. It's the vibrant heart of its community and the value for money is exceptional- the breakfasts,like everything else about The Bell, are excellent. If anything, I was surprised only by the 8.9 rating on the website-this place was named in The Times on the very weekend I stayed Absolutely nothing!;

The decoration of the bell is brilliant It's really an inn rather than a hotel The beds are very comfortable We loved it despite the crazy woman serving breakfast The breakfast was okay but the woman serving was as scatty as they come. She told us the bread they were serving for toast was stale and suggested to one guest not to have it with her bacon - but there was not attempt to get some more fore the poor woman who then went without breakfast. And a simple jug of milk was almost impossible to extract from her. And serving tea and coffee for several people at the same time was more than she could cope with. As guests we were not really told which part of the pub we could use The var staff were all young and busy there did not seam to be a manager anywhere We rang to book direct and they would not take our booking so we used booking.com

I loved it. It was so different. Everywhere you looked there was something interesting to see. The rooms were very comfortable - each one individual, no two the same. The thoughtful touches were so in keeping with the building. Lovely old building but modern touches (televisions) were incorprated in a very tasteful way. The television was actually hung on the wall in a picture frame. And the bath .... a deep copper tub was extremely decadent. Even though it was only 2 days before Christmas and cold outside, the rooms were lovely and warm, thanks to the big old fashioned radiators. The bed was so big and cosy, with comfy mattresses and duvets. Look out for the silver birches!! Breakfast was a feast - so much choice, and all served with fun and laughter. So much thought has gone into The Bell to make it a great stay. Recommended !! Nothing I liked it all

This was our second opportunity to stay at The Bell in Ticehurst whilst visiting family in Sussex and again the hotel did not disappoint. It's a truly remarkable place. On the one hand it's such a local, rural pub full of young farmers having an end of the week celebration and on the other it's a sophisticated and very artistic small hotel. We love it. The staff are a perfect mix of 'Faulty Towers' characters rolled into the most charming and dedicated people you could ever wish to meet. Nothing is too much trouble for them. For the second time we stayed in 'Anything is Possible', a large room at the front of the hotel with the most restful bed you will ever have the pleasure of sleeping in. I kid you not, getting out of that bed and then leaving it in Ticehurst are probably the two most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. We can't wait to return Leaving that bed in the room! An utterly amazing sleep experience.

We really enjoyed our stay, the building and meals. A creative breath of fresh air. Great staff, lots of thoughtful touches. Getting the bill right seemed a bit of a challenge for us and for other dinner guests.

Friendly young staff, very helpful, nice food, good pub atmosphere, cosy snug and wood fires, books and design, comfy bed and bathroom. Felt very 'at home' and part of a non business enterprise, (although I know it is a business!)

The Bell Inn is a lovely place to eat and stay. The food that we did have was exceptional. Its in a lovely spot in the middle of the village and the people there are wonderful. If you like a little of the quirky this is just the BEST place to stay. Breakfast was a little confusing. The food was great but we had to ask the chef where breakfast was being held as no one was around.

my husband surprised me with a weekend to the bell for our 1st wedding anniversary and i was delighted with the place. Great service amazing and quirky everything i could ask for loved the bathrooms and the whole layout of the place was amazing. we stayed in the then and now room and the anything is possible rooms were beautiful we recommend the then and now was amazing and split level. the food was to die for just the staff need a little more experience and to be more attentive.to customers need. breakfast staff incredible and bar staff great. we will be coming back the restaurant staff need to be more attentive to customers needs and less chit chat between themselves. The staff need to present themselves in a more processional manner.

Friendly efficient service. Location in the centre of the lovely village. Room was very nicely decorated. Rustic charm with a humourous twist. Excellent breakfast. They adapted to dietry needs. We had a "suited" room for a bargain price. Good bar and restaurant for dinner and lovely guest lounge. We would definately stay here again.

If you want the corporate, the conventional, the antiseptic and "correct" staff, don't come here. If you want the unconventional, staff who talk with you, as opposed to speak to you, and lots of surprises (good ones); stay here. Very well situated for Gt Dixter, Bodiam, Sissinghurst, Scotney etc. Easy to find with good parking. Excellent breakfast served by the world's most entertaining waitress! No room numbers but why bother when there's a different Kipling quote on every door. We stayed in "...anything is possible"; and it was. Honest staff. We left something behind and returned to find it in safe keeping. Stay here, you'll never forget it.

Quirky and fun. Breakfast and dinner both very good and served by very nice staff. bed was very comfortable. Dinner menu was limited and rather pricey. Not particlarly comfortable in either the bar which was too small and lacked intimacy. The stables although fun was not comfortable. The metal bath in the en-suite was daft and neither practical nor comfortable.

We really liked the bedroom. Very warm and cosy. The dinner we had was also very very good. Nice atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area. Nice fixtures and fittings. Real ale ok too. Charming service. The cooked breakfast was very slow to arrive and rather cold!

Very welcoming staff, very comfortable room, particularly bed! Generally informal atmosphere and nice to be in a place which was "alive", but not in a superficial way. Food very good. We do very little hotel staying but the price seemed very fair. Advertised as quirky was correct and peeing into a French Horn or similar was definitely a first! I did not notice any intrusive background music. Communal breakfast may not be for everybody but it seemed to work very well. The huge table was big enough to escape if you are a paper reader!
