We liked the food, staff and general atmosphere. We had a relaxing and very enjoyable three days at Bickley Mill.
Beautiful relaxing stay with friendly attentive staff and fabulous food, beer and wine.
Engine noise during evening - beer cooling machinery?
Staff, cleanliness, food
roads to and from ! lack of mobile signal; room a bit cluttered , TV cutting in and out.
The main hotel areas (the bar, dining area and lounge area). The bathroom.
Dated room, photos only show the beds and not the part of the room that needs updating making you think that it is uptogether. Build up of dust in cupboards and cobwebs. Thin walls.
Food was amazing great value for money Room was a good size and a very nice bathroom
Good rural location, facilities very good, lovely bedroom. Staff very helpful and friendly. really good breakfast.
There is a very large new road project which makes access to the area more difficult. This problem will go away once the new road is finished.
We enjoyed our stay at Bickley Mill and would stay again next time we are in the area. Food was very good and staff very helpful. Our room was of a very good standard and good value for money.
Creeky floorboards above our room, woke us up on several occasions during the night.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food very good.
I went there as a business user, no table or chair to work in the evening. I did not see this as a major issue it just would have been nice. I would recommend this hotel and would go back next time I am in the area.
Comfort Nice rooms Good wifi Good food Accommodating staff
The whole Mill was beautiful, lovely places to sit and eat or have a quiet drink. Lovely ambience. Our room was beautiful and relaxing, decorated to a really high standard. Beds comfy, clean and welcoming. I would definitely go there again.
Unfortunately there was a wedding party the night we stayed so a lot of people to look after. Also it was a tad too noisy for us due to the wedding guests. I would therefore check that no weddings are taking place when you stay.
Pretty much everything about Bickley Mill inn is of the highest standard. Service, food, facilities and staff were the best you could ever expect from a family run establishment.
Apart from the occasional heavy rain(not Within Bickley Mill control), the access to the hotel from Torquay is a bit tight and makes for a more interesting journey.
Accommodation Food Staff
Comfortable bed. Staff were all lovely and v. helpful. Food good and not too expensive! Dining area/restaurant well furnished and inviting. Very peaceful location - once you'd found it!
Quality of sleep was only rated as fair because there was a badly leaking gutter outside bathroom window (Badgers Holt) which woke us in the night due to torrential downpour. We thought that the shower or something in the bathroom was leaking badly!
Loved the quaint location and the beds were very comfortable however the noise from the above creaking floorboards was very disturbing all night and I did mention to the staff but it seemed to fail to receive a concerned response. The staff were very friendly however. Management were less so.
The fact that we as a family party booked into the hotel and spending a fair amount of money, received less than agreeable resolution to a booking mis communication by management really left a bad taste.
Location was nice. Food was good.
We booked for a family room and the quoted price was not the price we had to pay. It wasn't made clear what the actual cost would be upfront. Beds and cots were added as additional cost and that was not made clear to me at the time of booking.
Very obliging and friendly staff. Room was very clean and comfortable with a lovely, comfortable bed. Evening meals available in the restaurant were good as was the breakfast. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.
It's remoteness but if you want to be close to the tourist areas of Torquay, Paignton etc bit of a struggle down close winding roads but good location for overall surrounding areas including Dartmoor and Dartmouth. Good selection for breakfast. Staff very helpful. Reasonable value
Downside of location was had to travel for an alternative to eat at Bickley Mill of an evening time where food was reasonable but not one that would want to eat at every night. We decided to stay out late during day to eat, returning at around 9.00pm. Creaking floorboards above our room which was no problem if people went to bed early which fortunately they did in our case. Wouldn't want to stay at Bickley Mill when there was an occasion on such as a wedding. Could be noisy. Suggest you ask before booking.
The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The food is superb, really excellent quality and preparation. The shower and bathroom and general decor was very pleasant. and suited our personal taste. Breakfast staff were really nice and welcoming and such a contrast to the experience at the previous dinner.
On arrival having flown in from Munich then a long car drive to be told that we maybe could get a sandwich for dinner was just not on. We had not booked a table, didn't know we had to. It was sorted and we had a meal which was excellent but it was not a good start. Hygeine of staff was poor. Watched breakfast being set out the evening before. I object to staff putting their fingers inside the cups and glasses I am going to drink from. Similarly I do not like finger prints on the cutlery. At the very least the cutlery should only be handled from the handle!!! That is why we have handles for handling!!! The table service for dinner in the restaurant was poor. I don't expect a bottle of water to be just left on the table to be opened and poured by me when I am paying that sort of money. A similar situation with the wine!!! A very indifferent service from one of the waitresses, really quite off hand. This is a pity because the food was superb. The bedroom was noisy due to the water tank or something being nearby and so there was often a background noise. We travel a lot in Europe. The Mill says that it pays attention to detail, I really don't think they know what this means. Potentially this could be a superb place to stay but some of the staff working there need to be educated in customer services. All in all a disappointment and not good value for money.
Friendly staff but not intrusive. Lovely location and old worldly
Clean comfortable room. Staff very friendly. Plenty of parking. Set in lovely country surroundings
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely, clean and superbly decorated building with a fantastic outdoor terrace. Fantastic breakfast!
The staff were fantastic in looking after me and my 4 and 13 year old. We had such a good time and would definitely visit again. Breakfast was also excellent.
We booked a table for dinner and spent a leisurely evening enjoying the marvellous food, drink and atmosphere. The staff were excellent and made our stay very special. Well done!!
