The Bird In Hand Country InnBath Road, Reading, RG10 9UP (Show map)
Excellent,
Score from 72 reviews
“ Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. As well as being an excellent value hotel several locals use the bar and restaurant signalling a well run establishment. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well furnished. We stayed en route from Europe for a couple of nights before heading north and home and we would use this place again, especially for a holiday taking in the many attractions locally and good train connections to London. ”

Fabulous rate on the room and room very comfortable and clean with everything I needed. It was nice to be able to pop down to the bar and get a drink and relax outside and read my paper. I was travelling alone, but felt completely comfortable at the hotel.

The rooms are clean and quite spacious with high quality fittings. The real ale in the historic bar is very welcome after a day out. The setting is neither urban city nor pleasant rural but as a roadside inn it is fine.

Rooms were very clean, bathrooms are well appointed. We stayed in executive double rooms which faced the road but double glazing meant there was no road noise. Staff were very helpful about suggesting dinner venues. Breakfast was excellent.

The cleanliness of the room, the high quality bathroom, comfortable spacious bed, quiet. Breakfast on the first day because the hotel/ inn was busy. Pleasant bar area and good bar meal - (didn't choose to use the restaurant) The delay in breakfast the second day because there weren't many guests. Delay in taking the order meant that I was rushed in order to get to work - only a small issue but could be easily resolved

Good price at £40 single, clean room and spotless bathroom. Black mug in room (just a personal dislike of mine, yoh can never be sure if its properly clean) and the tartan carpet. Felt like refurb was not quite finished with modern decor but dated carpet and furnishings.

A convenient stop over. The food was on the whole rather poor. The fried bread at breakfast could have been used as an offensive weapon!

The room was an excellent size and the fixtures and fittings were lovely and fresh. The beds were very comfortable and we had a brilliant time as a family all together. The breakfast was second to none! Excellent value for money with friendly and helpful staff. We will be staying here again and would recommend to all our family and friends. Thank you for your hospitality! Cant find anything negative to say about this hotel.

Good clean room, coffee making facilities. Nice bathroom Very disappointed with the evening meal. My partner's roast dinner was left over from lunch, my sea bass and rocket didn't have any rocket and was slightly overcooked. Used to frequent his restaurant in the past and it was excellent, so expectations high. Breakfast was poor, warmed cooked breakfast, inedible bacon

Everything really, lovely place with very friendly staff (and customers) shame I was on business or I would have spent more time in the bar! The bar has a great feel and atmosphere, as did my room. Food was great and the room was more than comfortable - everything needed for a pleasant stay. Really happy and great find, often in Reading so this will now be my fave place to stay when there. Thanks for a pleasant experience. N/A

Our room was very clean and fulfilled all our needs. The water was not hot enough. The hot help yourself breakfast was certainly not hot - however on the days when there was no business conferences, served breakfast was excellent. Due to conferences (our stay was midweek) we had to take our evening meals in the bar.
