Nice cosy pub, traditional open fire and excellent food.
Fantastic food and atmostphere.
We were looking for an "old English pub B & B" and thats what we got. Arrival: They were waiting when we arrived, everything was ready and we were showed to our room. Room: Not too much space, therefore you need to stay friends with your room partner. Comfortable bed and cosy room. Food: Upon evening arrival we filled out our breakfast information. Each morning we received our own personal breakfast as request and piping hot. Multiple dishes for dinner, well presented and full of taste. Pub: Friendly staff and a well stocked pub with great beers. Nothing was too much trouble. Check-out: The stay and pub/dinner bill was itemises and ready. Couldn't have been easier.
A winter stay. The ensuite bathroom was minature and had no heating. Breakfast was only served until 09:00 although flexible. The photos on the site are outdated and not all rooms are as in the photos. If you are driving (winter time) you need a 4x4 or very new tyres. (I found out the hard way:-(
Nothing was too much trouble, newly refurbished room was good.
A nice cosy pub, good beer and comfortable bed.
Loved the family room - perfect for two adults and one child, very cosy - ideal for us. Food was great - the steak deal was exceptionally good value and delicious. Staff were helpful and friendly and the pool table was an unexpected bonus! Easy access to Derby and beautiful scenic drive to Bakewell.
I found the room & bed in particular very comfortable.
Newly refurbed rooms. Clean and quiet. Comfortable pub with excellent real ale. Good cooked breakfast.
Room ceiling low and bathroom tiny. Pub a bit dead in evening ( early midweek)
Part of a pub which meant that we could have dinner and drinks without travelling Friendly staff Quickly made breakfast
Heavy fire doors
There was nowhere to hang the shower head to have a shower.
Nice country dinning pub with rooms.
Only one night stay, not try the food as the menu was good.
On first arrival as we arrived late on the evening hosts were lovely they had a breakfast selection form Inadvance our host carried our bags to the room as I followed with drinks in tow bar is small but welcoming people with plenty of relaxing areas spaced around the conservatory area outside the rear I would recommended due to the comfort of our super king bed /cleanliness and lovely hosts :-)
Location to uttoxetor to far for taxi cost £60 round trip
Everything - good quality food, real ale, quiet country village location, friendly host and staff, comfortable room and considerate quiet occupants of the other rooms.
Great staff, good food, good beer, relaxed atmosphere, good shower.
Lack of mobile signal, but not the fault of the Black Cow!
Friendly staff Very clean throughout.
En suite to small and poorly layed out
Fantastic service, good food and goid value for money. Will use again.
We all agreed that the black cow was one of the nicest places we've stayed in. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The rooms are small but compact. They were both well finished and the showers were lovely. The food was always top class. On Sunday we arrived for dinner at 7.20pm, not realising last orders were at 7. We expected to be served the tail end of the carvery but it was delicious!! The beef was still medium rare and the chef had even cooked us fresh Yorkshire puddings!!! I could not fault our stay one bit and would certainly love to return again!!
Ambience, friendliness of staff, good local beer, quiet modern bedroom decor and furniture, easy to find, parking
Small bedroom and very small bathroom. Early breakfast only.
Location, Friendly Staff, Good food, Nice clean room
Bar staff Food - dinner and breakfast Clean and tidy Nice mix of locals and tourists Other familes with young children welcome
Food and ambiance.
Good country pub with rooms. Nice beer nice food. Comfy clean room. We preordered breakfast. Tick a list the night before of what you would like and at what time and it's ready for you. Definately recommended
Difficult to find
Good location, only 20 mins away from Alton Towers (the purpose of our visit) along some B roads, which worked out better than the more popular A roads as there was NO traffic to contend with. Lovely good sized clean rooms with a hearty breakfast to set us all up for the day.
Bathroom sink taps were poorly installed and turned when you tried to turn them on. Our room was directly on top of the outside smoking area so the smoke and noise below traveled directly into the bedroom, as it was so hot we had to leave the window open and it was difficult to get the kids to sleep with the noise, the cigarette pollution was more concerning. WiFi although available was only running at 0.2mbps a minor niggle again amplified by having kids with me who get more annoyed by these modern day issues!
Nice quant place breakfast very good
Disco to the early hours and the second room proved very small
