We have stayed here before. The rooms, staff and especially the food make for a lovely experience in a nice village location with interesting National Trust property nearby. When we arrived we were initially allocated a small room instead of the standard room we had booked. The staff on duty did not appear to understand that our room allocation was not what we had booked nor to be able to offer an explanation. Once the problem had been escalated to another staff member it was resolved quickly and we were offered the choice between two of their standard rooms (which are very nice) so overall it did not spoil our stay.

The staff were attentive without being over bearing which helped create a very good atmosphere particularly in the restaurant. The food was excellent, if slightly over priced The room that we had which was an upgrade was slightly smaller than we would have liked but that is being rather pickyy

We have just spent Christmas at the Black Lion Hotel and had an amazing time. Having stayed in many hotels both in the uk and abroad we would say this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Our room was elegant and spotlessly clean, the food was excellent but most of all Michael (the manager) and all his staff simply could not do enough for us; every one of them was polite, friendly, cheerful and very professional. We will most certainly be going back again. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

All staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely rooms, and facilities, all stylish. We didn't eat dinner at hotel, though breakfast was nicely done, and all cooked for you individually. Hotel is well placed for walking or short drive to some of the best villages in Suffolk - we would stay again!

We liked everything. We were impressed by the furnishings and ambience - taking us back to a past era, but with modern facilities. The staff were very friendlly, courteous and polite with every little whim of the guest attended to quickly and efficiently. The saying "the customer is always right" sprang to mind. We really enjoyed breakfast, especially as Michael (the manager)produced some gluten free bread for my wife, who is a coeliac. The chef's dinner creations were interesting and delicious but, unfortunately, we weren't staying long enough to try them all. We intend to pay The Black Lion another visit in the future; it seems to have a good team very capably led by Michael (and Melford) and is in a commanding position overlooking The Green.

I found the Black Lion a warm, welcoming hotel with friendly staff and excellent service. We particularly liked the paintings, antiques and ambience and breakfast was excellent. There was nothing that we didn't like. I had been there before for a meal and knew someone who had stayed there so had some idea of what to expect.

We were welcomed warmly and helped with luggage. Our room, the Pommard, was comfy, with plenty of space, a great view and interesting decoration. Bathrobes, plenty of towels, a good bath with hot water and a powerful shower completed the picture. The staff seem well chosen and trained, very helpful and obliging. Our 5 day stay was enhanced by their local knowledge and friendly interest. The food was good; breakfast was particularly appealing as it is all served, no self service, a treat first thing in the morning. The hotel is dog friendly and we were entertained by the lovely resident dog too. All in all a lovely relaxing time. I have a personal dislike of carpets in bathrooms. It would have been useful to have a couple of hooks somewhere in the bathroom for bathrobes too. Old fashioned folding luggage racks might have been useful as there is no chest of drawers to use for a longer stay.

Large, beautiful room. Good restaurant Room was far too hot and the windows do not open. This appears to be a permanent feature, since my room had an electric fan in it but was too noisy to have on during the night.

Wonderful welcome, beautiful room and attention of detail from staff superb. Bathroom taps a little quirky and room light switches a little confusing but all added to the charm.

Traffic noise was unacceptable in our room. We could not physically open the bedroom window (but would have had worse noise if we had), so had to open bathroom window to get at least some ventilation. Room did not work - senior staff need to sleep in these rooms to understand. Hotel generally very expensive for what it was - compares badly for value and service with other hotels. Breakfast should start earlier than 08.30 Food was ok - but not good or special. A real disappointment
