Good location as I was visiting son at university,
Used online booking to get room bad mistake, should have phoned first, would have got room I wanted not room booking.com wanted to sell me.
Good Parking Good Food Friendly / Helpful Staff Rooms great value for Money , clean and good size.
FIX THE TELLY !!!!! , only thing that lets it down. Noise from high st. at weekends , but no fault of hotel.
Best value for money B&B Have stayed many times while returning daughter to university. Comfortable clean single room with bath and shower. Lovely cooked breakfast with top quality ingredients. All for £30 would have expected to pay double that. Will be back again at Easter.
The price and location were great. The atmosphere was nice. The rooms were comfortable, warm, clean, and inviting. The bar downstairs had good food and nice service.
The bed was a bit too soft.
Handy to the bus station. Handy to the university for the weekend course that I attended. A good base for viewing the surrounding countryside. A pleasant bar and breakfast room. My room was a quiet and generously sized single one at the rear.
I complained about spider webs on the ceiling, and particularly over the head of the bed. I am sure this has been remedied. I didn't try the TV until the third and last night, and then was unable to get it to work even with new batteries in the remote which were readily supplied when asked.
Bed was very comfortable, Excellent breakfast, Staff very friendly
Antiquated television, No remote control, Only 2 channels available, Sky Sports and ITV
The room was Good as was the Service, Food was Excellent, we are trying to find the Time to Re-visit & would recommend to friends.
Like most older Hotels it needs "Money Spending" to Modernise and sort out mainly small Maintenance Problems. No remote for TV, which had Poor Reception. I didn't like the way that everybody was using the "Car Park" as a short cut, Pedestrians and Drivers as well. I don't know if there has ever been any "Car Breakin's" This is just my thoughts about the Situation.
Room was warm and comfortable with decent ensuite bathroom. Ok food in the bar and good breakfast. Good value.
Decor is tired and a bit shabby in places.Wallpaper was peeling around window. Functional rather than fancy.
The food, staff and rooms were all superb. The price was incredibly affordable even though we had two rooms for three nights. It was great value, clean and comfortable. An all round fantastic stay. We also had key cards and a separate guests entrance that we could use all the time with the use of the cards which was great when we wanted to go out for a drink.
I stay at the Black Lion probably twice a year, and there has been a definite improvement since I last stayed; redecorated room, improved menu in the restaurant, and I think the room prices have been lowered.
The rooms need some small maintenance done, the plaster had fallen off the nail head in the plasterboard, this is very easy to fix and would improve the appearance of the room. Also, the shower was an abysmal trickle.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant very good. Location.
Staff very polite, great food
Breakfast not served early enough and later over the weekend, accommodation could do with spruce up,
We found the shower not good
The staff were friendly, there is plenty of parking at the back of the Hotel and the restaurant downstairs serves good food and is convenient if you don't want to wander too far after a long drive.
The only issue was the broken radiator valve which meant that it was so hot in our room that we had to sleep with the window wide open (on the last day of November!) and even then it was still too hot to get to sleep.
The staff were very helpful. The food was good. Bed very comfortable. Overall very good value for money.
Too many stairs.
the staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. breakfast was lovely as was dinner.
the décor in the room was very shabby and there were cracks in the walls and ceiling. The carpet could have done with a good clean or replacing.
Free WiFi - Good food
Not sure about other bedrooms, but room 201 was in severe need of some TLC. Badly cracked walls, cracked bathroom floor tiles. Some evidence of dampness. Dated small tv with poor channel choice (only 2)
bar closing at11pm without warning.unable to watch football in rooms due to absence of BBC1 and WiFi.This spoiled an otherwise excellent weekend
We liked the building and the cleanliness outside and inside the building was really good, the staff were excellent, the food was excellent. We arrived late in the evening but the Chef was wonderful and prepared a meal for us although the kitchen had closed. We would be very happy to stay there again.
The bed could have been bigger but it was fine.
there was an issue with the TV with just two channels available ,no remote and the buttons on the set didnt function well,if you wanted to be picky the decor although generaly very nice was a little rough on a close inspection, however this was a clean and pleasant room ,an enjoyable stay, wide choice and very good breakfast, value for money, would certainly go back, and recomend to anyone.
the unexpected cleanliness need for staff
Food at the Black Lion Royal Hotel, Staff friendliness, Location.
The bed was uncomfortable, as was the armchair in the room, he shower wasn't working correctly.
A good location to plan from. The food menu was well balanced at reasonable prices. I would give the breakfast a well deserved 10. I will be using this hotel again in April '15 The manageress was most helpful and cheerful. Well done & very good value .Thank you
