Score from 61 reviews Good
Good mattresses, invitation to make sandwiches with breakfast supplies, fridge in room and in hall.
The porridge on offer was an instant variety in a packet with 'golden syrup' in it. Just plain homemade would have been very welcome. Also a sugar-free muesli would have been great, and natural yogurt.
When we arrived we were assailed with the fantastic aromas of home baking. There were home made cakes and scones laid out for us to have afternoon tea. We met the landlady the following morning and she cooked us a lovely breakfast with fresh eggs from their own chickens and home made bread. There was also cereal, fruit, yougurt, ham boiled eggs, cheese etc. Tracy was a font of knowledge about where to go in the New Forest and places to visit. Thank you Tracy for a lovely couple of days.
If I had to find one fault the only thing I found a bit strange and uncomfortable at the beginning was letting myself in to somebody else's house when they weren't there.
clean, friendly, good breakfast
the bed in the cat and fiddle room had a sagging mattress so every time you moved you ended you rolled into the middle of the bed. could do with arranging a parking deal with the pub next door as parking is so limited
comfort and informality
the location was very good
the help yourself style of cold cuts for breakfast and if you want a cooked breakfast then you had to order it a day before and pay extra for it,also the rates were not clear, in the guest info book it was that old trick of FROM £40 pppn,we were then charged £54.00pppn, this style of B&B is for the owner who does not live on the property
Some really lovely touches such as the breakfast choice, the afternoon tea upon arrival, home made shortbread in the bedrooms.
Unfortunately the negatives outweigh for me. There is a train station next to the house and a busy road. This wouldn't matter so much however, it was a hot night and we needed to open the windows. Could be fixed by making fans available to guests. Bathroom facilities were not quite up to scratch for the price. It was the small detail such as flimsy toilet seat, a water pipe exposed and not boxed in. No DVD player in the room. It was so easy to hear everything in adjoining rooms. Some improvements could easily be made to eradicate the negative comments. I hope that the owners see this as constructive.
Tracy managed to find us a cot at last minute...
Our room and bathroom were dirty. The floor hasn't been vacuum... Stains everywhere... Over priced!
Tracy was amazing host and breakfast was a feast.
good value. clean. good food
Easy help yourself attitude and lovely home cooked bread cookies and cakes
The breakfast was good and the lady in charge of the cooking was nice and friendly. There were home made cake and scones. It was possible to make your sandwiches for lunch. There was space to park our car
We were traveling with a 6 months baby. They didn't provide a travel cot and he didn't have breakfast but still we had to pay an additional 35 GBP per day, which was notify to us on a short notice. The bathroom could be cleaner. It still had shower gel and shampoo from previous clients
Home cooked food
The house had style and character and access was simple and the staff were relaxed and helpful. It was a very pleasant few days.
Overpriced for what was a rather tired and old fashioned b & b
Good location. Lovely friendly staff, delicious home baked cakes and bread and and a good selection of food at breakfast.
Location was excellent, near railway station. Very near trails in the New Forest and also near shops and pubs. Very comfortable room and friendly atmosphere.
The location of the B&B is in a great location and you can walk to restaurants and bars within Brockenhurst. The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have fresh milk and cake on arrival.
Bathroom not clean, hairs in bath and floor tiles not clean. Breakfast was ok if you like pancakes, cheeses and ham. Although the bread was cheap sliced and I would expect more from a continental style breakfast. Price if staying for one night at the weekend is simply not worth it, given the size of the rooms and the breakfast.
A very friendly owner who clearly loves the Blacksmiths House and the New Forest; house is homely, clean, comfortable, and well-appointed; there is a delicious and varied breakfast; and the location is excellent.
Really comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Well placed for transport, village and local activities
Can't think of anything
The Red Lion room was excellent very spacious and comfortable . It was a nice touch to have fresh milk in the fridge and cookies in the jar .
Tracey is anamazing host and I learned so much from her. The afternoon teas were hugely appreciated.
Such a lovely warm and friendly b&b! Come and go as you please, we came in late on night and there are freshly baked scones, jam and cold milk in the fridge for a late night snack! The biscuits left in our room were wonderful and the hostess was lovely. Definitely recommend!
Liked the informal running of the B&B with easy access to come and go. Room was very comfortable and exactly as described.
Wasn't too keen that the location was on a busy main road but at least I did have a room at the back of the house.
very near to the railway station and the local village and forest. Bedroom was on ground floor with everything you need each day and Tracey's biscuits amazing! Home from home and made me feel welcome
all ok, i thought the door code was a good idea, saves keys being lost and come in and out as and when
