situation, hospitality and service were first class also really nice bedrooms.
breakfasts were OKbut evening meals were disappointing.Choices were average but food was served lukewarm.
Very warm, welcoming and peaceful surroundings
Couldn't fault it
The hotel is excellent in terms of comfort and the staff being interested in and helpful to guests. Also, the breakfast was also excellent with good quality food and a huge selection. Everyone was very friendly.
I was there for business - working in the area. The wifi provision was poor. It didn't work at all in the rooms and when I moved myself to the bar area to work for an afternoon, even there the wifi was slow. Also, the TV for some reason was set to supporting blind or partially blind people which is great if you have that issue! However, if you are fully sighted, then having the explanatory voice over is really annoying. I couldn't find a way to turn this off - although in the hotel's defense, I didn't ask.
Beautiful building in a picture perfect setting. Spacious comfortable room and helpful staff.
Was informed the WiFi password was in the folder but it wasn't and on enquiring at reception was told it was in the folder. It wasn't! Then the password I was told didn't work. We arrived late so I enjoyed time unconnected!
Great location Cosy setting Excellent food Lovely room Friendly, helpful staff
excellent value but room was a bit tired, Food good and staff all very helpful. A good overnight stay.
The accommodation was clean and nicely furnished. Staff very helpful.
The location was perfect, we enjoyed a very good dinner in the restaurant and a great breakfast the next morning. The staff were attentive and very pleasant.
Nothing, everything was great
The room and staff.
Some of the other guests. A group of ladies using very laddish" language in a public area..
We mostly liked the position and character of the boar's head! A real gem! This combined with lovely staff and well presented clean rooms and a great bar/lounge/restaurant makes for a fabulous stay. This was our second visit and most certainly will not be our last.
Everything is good.
The whole ambience is just wonderful. Beautiful hotel excellent rooms. Roaring log fire, fine ales...just perfect. First class staff.
Consistently competent, capable and congenial staff.
Sub-standard shower shower
The food is superb
Pleasant atmosphere. Central location.
Bar manager not fully informed about menu-I ordered chips because he said food would be as described but it came with potatoes.Friday night very crowded & noisy. Plumbing problem in bedroom but could not report till morning.
Fab location. Excellent reception staff. Great sized room
The menu could be improved as it was quite restricted.
very relaxing staff were very helpful
The bed was too big!
Atmosphere. Privacy. Comfort. Staff.
Arriving for breakfast at 0915 and it was dry..... No sauces or condiments
Friendly staff, superb location, regular buses into Harrogate
More varied menu would be nice
My room (Poacher's Den) was warm and comfortable, and I had breakfasts and an evening meal delivered as room service with no extra charge. The staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. A good night's sleep, fresh biscuits every day, chocolate pigs left on the pillows - what's not to like?!
My only criticism is that I'd have preferred a stand-up shower to a bath, but that's a personal choice. It would also be good to have a comfy chair in the room, but then I only paid for a small double ...
We were in the main house, which I think was an upgrade on our booking of a standard room. I was a cold day but the room was very clean, warm and cosy. We had a meal in the Bistro which was very nice too.
Not a lot, except a little personal preference. I don't like my food served in silly items. i.e. chips in a little plant pot and a sandwich and salad in a quite deep square basket. The food is good and doesn't need gimmicky presentation but perhaps some folk may like it. Who knows!
Nice pub, nice room, comfy bed and a lovely village.
Not much to dislike. Didn't eat dinner there so can't comment but breakfast was lovely, thiugh could have been a smidgen bigger.
Easy to find, great location for exploring and outside a large town. Lots to see within walking distance but only a 10 minute drive to Harrogate.
There weren't enough serving staff when there was a large crowd in as some of the bar staff were also the dining room staff.
Welcome and size of room.
The expense of a two-course evening meal and modest drinks. Would have helped if individual items were shown on bill.
We were right next door to Ripley Castle. Our evening meal in the Bistro was excellent along with the choice of real ale. We arrived at our room to find a complimentary decanter of sherry and chocolate pigs on our pillows - a very welcoming touch and a small wooden sailing boat in the bathroom. The room and was very spacious and spotless. Our Yorkshire breakfast was a hearty feast that set us up for the day. The staff were all very helpful and it was lovely to see them obviously enjoying their work.
That we had only booked for one night!
