The location was good and the staff were friendly.
There was damp in the en suite and it smelt really fusty; the fan didn't work. The breakfast: the eggs were fried and no choice was offered, brown toast wasn't offered and the sausages were very poor quality.
Damp in the bathroom
Great value. Very friendly staff - couldn't do more. Even offered to launder a pair of trousers that were soiled. Breakfast cooked to order - excellent. Rooms clean and comfortable. Excellent position to explore the Dales.
The shower was OK but on the small side. The hotel has a major refurbishment plan in place. Will definitely use again
Ideal location situation in Matlock, but not too far to visit Matlock Bath either, which I definitely recommend as it is a haven for bikers (not that I'm a biker). Even though the room was overlooking a main road frequented by trucks, cars and bikers I was able to have a good night's sleep both nights I stayed. On my first morning I asked for a vegetarian breakfast, which was catered for as best as possible; however, the lady making the breakfast kindly went out of her way to buy me vegetarian sausages and lemon tea. The breakfasts were filling, which is certainly what I needed as I was there for a long hiking weekend.
The shower kept turning on and off by itself. When it turned back on the water changed from cold to extremely hot before it found the temperature I had set it at. I didn't see the owners of the hotel the two days I was there nor did they greet me upon my arrival on Friday afternoon instead leaving it to a bar guy who wasn't sure of the check-in computer system. The mushrooms on Saturday morning looked and tasted like they had been reheated. Sunday morning's breakfast was much better though. Friday evening the bar was completely dead. Overall, I don't think it was worth the money for the price I paid for the two nights.
shabby, needs complete revamp, very basic place in all ways
shower didnt work, tap on sink loose, bed wasnt a decent bed just 2 matresses put together, room not cleaned until the 3rd day of a 4 day stay
The hotel was disappointing. The people running it had taken over the day before and the place had a shabby run down air. We paid £85 for an OK room which needed a new carpet and furnishings. There was very little choice for breakfast and to cap it all the previous owners had removed the card machine so we had to pay cash. We were leaving quite early on a Sunday morning and fortunately had cash on us but it could have been a nuisance to have to walk up to Matlock in search of a cash machine prior to leaving. Altogether it was very poor value for money. I have paid nearly half that price and had beautiful accommodation in other tourist towns.
Clean and pretty room. Staff were friendly and good breakfast. Good location for pubs and restaurants in Matlock and close to Heights of Abraham.
all the staff were fantastic from the cook to the landlady and landlord.the food we had was superb cooked to order it was fresh that's why the menu was small but that's better than having a lrge one which you know is microwaved.the breakfast was superb and nothing was any trouble. the room was clean and very well decorated.i was sorry to leard that the landlady and landlord are leaving next tues through the fault of the brewery.they must be mad.i would recommend anyone that's wants a nice pleasant stay go to this hotel
Friendly hosts - good food. (Car park = easy parking.)
Road noise - alongside main A6!!
