The location was excellent, with proximity to a plethora of places to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were a stone's throw to the Christmas market so a stroll while sipping a warm gluhwein was a pleasure. Very easy to pop out for a walk around the centre of Oxford. The rooms were comfortable with modern facilities and decor. The staff were very welcoming and assisted with getting our bags up the stairs. Also offered flexibility in check in time.
The smaller room that we booked was quite stuffy and in spite of turning the heat down, we still found it necessary to open the window,
Noise - cramped how it could be a 5 star I can't see! thin stud walls music from staff room next door on at 7.00am Washing machine switched on at 8 right next to room! Travelodge would have been better.
Location and value for money ..... And the earplugs!
The staff, was excellent. The rooms comfortable, well appointed. No complaints about the hotel itself.
Our biggest issue was that being located in the entertainment district, we could not sleep at night due to the noise level of after bar revellers, cars with noisy mufflers, a garbage depot nearby, street cleaning machines, followed by delivery trucks to the restaurants in the morning.
The room was a good size and clean. Nice and quiet and I had a good nights sleep.
No breakfast which wasn't obvious when booking otherwise I'd probably not have paid £85.
It is a decent hotel as far as the rooms are concerned. No amenities aside from internet (which is very fast and easy to use). Convenient to Oxford University and the City Centre. Also convenient to the train station. Staff was all very nice.
Room was very small and the bed was not very comfortable. The sheets and towels never quite felt "fresh", which was a little weird.
Shower would not drain away quick enough.
Very good location for seeing Oxford. Room had everything required.
Steep steps from entry up to reception, which are a bit difficult with a suitcase. Room was rather noisy, although a set of earplugs was provided (and worked effectively).
Vicinity of all amenities and museums
Noise from shouting, bottle bins & busses tooting early in the morning
Had a short comfortable stay in this small boutique style hotel in a great location above Jamie Oliver's restaurant. Will stay again for longer to explore Oxford.
Can say found anything wrong at all.
staff friendly and helpful. good size of room convenient carpark
number of steps upto the room. secondary glazing not working so a lot of noise from outside all night
Check in and check out slick, room comfortable and kitted out thoughtfully with tea, coffee, iron. Location in Oxford perfect
Very clean and comfortable
Nothing to dislike
Close to the theatre
The noise outside the noise from the heaters etc inside. The staff were rude and had no manners towards paying guests. There was blood on the wall of our bathroom and it was not cleaned coffee had been opened and they didn't change it. The list goes on.
Good location for city centre
Tiny reception No bar. No restaurant. No breakfast facility. Tiny bathroom. Very noisy room. No plug in sink. Can not understand how hotel has 5 stars.
Location close to Bus station. Close to city centre and Oxford business school.
No room for me for the last two days. No mircowave. Water pot switch is not good.
The location couldn't be better. We found it very convenient for a one-night stay after a concert. Everything was clean and new. I would use it again, but only if I came alone.
Steep stairs (no lift?). No staff at the desk evening, night, or early morning (though there was an emergency number). Very small room, no public spaces. But it is a "boutique"!
Comfortable bed, nice bathroom with a very good shower.
Amazingly noisy street, people shouting and screaming outside until around 4am which was horrible. Very small rooms as well.
no facilities such as a bar. no parking
Room was comfortable and well equipped. Bed also comfortable. Tea & coffee in room but no other facilities such as breakfast room/dining room.
Extremely noisy location with lorries unloading, bottles being dropped into bins from pub/restaurants nearby and passers-by shouting etc at all hours.
The staff were excellent and v. Helpful
Position , noise and the rooms were on the small size.
Central location above Jamie Oliver's restaurant. Contemporary, comfortable rooms
No food available
Large space for double room, comfy bed and very clean. Good location as well
Noise From outside
Staff were very helpful and efficient
Friday and Saturday nights -very noisy until 3am, therefore sleep was not great. Rooms quite small but ok.
The location was fab. Pretty much central to shopping district and access to the theatre. The noise from the very busy main road was relatively well muted by the windows.
The Barcardo was apparently a 5 star rated hotel. I'm not sure how? Although clean and tidy, the room was fairly compact, so much so that the wardrobe next to the bed couldn't actually be utilised as it's doors were too near the bed to open. The room that we were in was above the entrance and although the windows blocked out much of the noise from the busy main road, the buzzing of the buzzer to alert the staff of the hotel could be heard several times through the night, waking myself and my sister up. (It was being held down, until a member of staff answered!) Also, there was no bath, very disappointing. Having said all this - the room/ hotel served it's purpose and we had a great time in Oxford.
