Very comfortable hotel in a beautiful location. Lookk out onto lake Derwent water. Lots of lovely walks in the borrowdale Valley. No need to use the car. Bus stop immeditaley outside the hotel into Keswick and to other villages in the Borrowdale Valley. Lovely garden for enjoying a relaxing drink in the afternoon sun. Hotel room was too warm this last visit. Rooms are quire small.

Very good bedroom and bathroom Good housekeeping staff Hotel in excellent location close to lake Ambience was old fashioned and without character Food was expensive and poor value for money. Service was slow and sometimes brusque. On the whole, the atmosphere was unfriendly. Even though we are in our 60s, we felt far too young to stay in this hotel. It tried to be a luxury hotel, but failed.

It was very relaxed and has stunning scenery all around. The food was gorgeous. The staff were helpful and friendly. There were a lot of dogs staying. I am not a fan of them as I am allergic to them. However they were all well behaved and you could not tell if there had been a dog staying in our room previously.

The Hotel was very warm and comfortable and the food good and at a reasonable price. It suited our needs extremely well and would stay there again. Only a very minor point, but the service could be slow and once allocated a table, that was the one you had. You could ask to change, but it could be difficult unless another table either was free or became free.

I love the fact that my husband and I can relax. We love the location. We love everything about the hotel and I feel that we will become regulars. we both have very stressful jobs and we work 13 hours most days. we like the fact that nobody can contact us on our phones. There is no guilt factor about work. It is peaceful unlike London. I can't think of anything.

Lovely traditional Hotel, warm, comfortable with high standard of food and service in the dining room. Ideal location for exploring Borrowdale and surrounding area. Good value for money. The room we chose (standard double) was too cramped. The weather was beautiful but had we needed to spend more time in our room it would have been difficult. Staff in reception and management were not very friendly or approachable.

The room was extremely small. The bathroom was cold as the fan could not be turned off. Alternatives to full meals in the restaurant at night were not available.

Excellent location for walking and mountains. Good friendly staff. Bedroom and bathroom far too small. Toast not properly cooked at breakfast (soggy). Too much Christmas decor in November. Drying room not adequate. Nowhere to put on/takeoff walking boots etc without going into carpeted area.

It was the first time my wife and myself had been away without our children in over ten years. We were looking for a hotel which was both handy for lakeland walks ( Scafell Pike in our case ) as well as being in a beautiful, romantic location. The Borrowdale Hotel certainly ticked those boxes and more. The Hotel itself was incredibly warm, and comfortable. We were a little concerned about breakfast being served from 8.00 given that we wanted to make an early start on our walk. The lady at reception contacted the kitchen staff who were able to arrange an earlier breakfast for us which was a really nice touch and really appreciated. During our two night stay, we couldn't really find anything to complain about.Although, I would have liked mushrooms with my cooked breakfast. But that's less of a complaint and more me being picky!!

This hotel is set in the middle of the Lake District. The weather was beautiful during our stay and we were given a room with a fantastic view over the valley and its mountains. It was very quiet and tranquil. Restaurant was excellent and service good. Hotels in the Lake District are expensive. To attract guests the hotel offers special deals and it was felt that even with the compettative price displayed on the Book.com website a cheaper price could be got if the hotel was approached at the last moment. Had the price being more competative we would have stayed longer.

I thought the water brought to your table at dinner was excellent. We travel to the USA regularly and water is always automatically brought to you every where you dine. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The carpet in our room had not been vacuumed and was covered in dog hairs I even found them in the shower, also there was no phone in the room, no tissues in the bathroom and huge clumps of dust hanging from the radiator. I did report this and the room was thoroughly cleaned although still no tissues.

It's a peaceful, tradional, lovely hotel which is surrounded by mountain and field. Room is comfortable and graceful, food is nice and most staff is helpful. Children are welcome. 1. The price is a little bit expensive; 2. The location is far from Keswick but near the lake and mountaion. So it's much better fit for hiking. 3. Transportation is not convenience, even if the bus stop is near the hotel.
