As soon as we arrived we were struck with how quiet + peaceful the village was. And in the Bramley Apple many excellent beers & coders too. Very relaxing. Good breakfast too.

    Not much

On the booking form it said I could have my room from 4.30 (which is later than most) and I had to wait until 5.00 for the pub to open. The front doorbell did not work and there was no reception for my phone. I then discovered they had not been serving food for a year and yet the information clearly stated food was available on site. I was looking forward to a peaceful time catching up on emails that evening but the internet did not work in my room and I couldn't hear myself think with the noise of the road as the cars parked on the main road outside my window meant that all traffic had to stop outside and then accelerate away. So I went out for the evening instead and found a quiet pub. The mattress on the double bed sloped so much on one side that I felt I was going to fall out of the bed so had to sleep on the opposite side. For breakfast I was told, not asked, that it was full English. I never have full English and would have preferred scrambled egg but really didn't feel I could ask. I offered to give a lift to a fellow guest to his mother's funeral the next morning as it looked like rain so I asked if I could leave a little after 10.30 (which is quite early anyway) in order to do this. I was told that the room needed to be prepared for the next guest. I would have been happy to wait in the bar area but told the pub would be locked and I would not have a key. I am not a moaner and I have never experienced anything so bad before!

Great location Very clean Friendly staff

Somewhat amateurish furnishings Low beds totally unsuited for older guests 'Full English' for breakfast means literally that - no option to select/ request items on a very crowded plate!! Lack of chair in bedroom

Excellent and friendly staff; nothing was seemingly too much trouble. The rooms, although basic, were very clean. Superb full English breakfast both the mornings we were there...

Having to keep the windows shut during bar hours because of smokers below...

It was really close to Brackenhurst Campus, if tou felt like it you can walk tgere in 20 minutes. it was in a lovely little town of Southwell. The parking was free and all the staff were friendly especially the gentleman who cooked our breakfast

Would like to see a door on the room of number one that leads into the small private hallway as although not a problem in summer I can imagine in winter it would stop draughts.

The room was very comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Saturday's evening meal and Sunday's breakfast were well cooked and presented.

No-one turned up to cook our Breakfast on the Monday morning and we had to go into Southwell and find somewhere to eat. Luckily there was a Deli café open. The District Manager from Nottingham offered to come out and cook it for us but that would have meant a further 45 minutes wait. He was there when we returned and apologised and gave us a discount. But it spoilt a lovely weekend attending our oldest son's ordination in Southwell Minster.
