Lovely hotel in a lovely location. The owners are doing a really good job of refurbishing the rooms. Our room was small but beautifully appointed (perfectly adequate for our one night stay). We were going to go to Penrith for our evening meal but when we saw the dining room at The Brantwood and the menu, we decided to eat there - really good decision. Excellent food and service.
This is a very friendly and cosy hotel. The staff were very polite, helpful and had a good rapport with their guests. The dining room is beautiful and the food delicious. I have never tasted such a fab steak pie! The cooked breakfast was piping hot. The bar area is very pleasant and comfortable to relax in.
The bedroom was rather small and stuffy. We were too hot during the night even with the windows open.
Friendly small comfortable pleasent room
The staff were ultra-friendly - we arrived slightly late for dinner but they accommodated us anyway and made every attempt to meet our requirements. The beer was good, too!
Couldn't get wi-fi anywhere! Or a phone signal.
Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, wonderful food, cute quaint historic - all rolled into one neat package. A wonderful experience
Very friendly and attentive staff.
There was confusion as to where the dining area for breakfast was, which meant we had to wait approx 10 minutes to be noticed and moved to the breakfast area.
I loved the food and the setting is lovely
The decor in the rooms is a bit old fashioned and dated.
Garden with the chickens and the general location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the dining experience very good.
Brantwood was owned by my great aunt as a private residence until sold to the hotel in the late 1970's. I was really disappointed in the room (her own bedroom.) It felt as tough it had not been updated or decorated since then and had a musty smell and the ensuite was very scruffy. I didn't think it was worth £100 a night. The staff argued that they were refurbishing and things would improve but that's in the future, I'm talking about now.
We liked the room, situation and the dinner was excellent.
Despite asking for Gluten Free bread nothing was available - they had "forgotten". The bottle bank was just outside out window. The room had 3 beds, but this made access to the bathroom very cramped. Not a good idea to squeeze in another bed. Two are ample.
Nice comfortable king size bed with a good ensuite, staff very friendly and helpful.A quiet town with not a lot of options for eating out so the Brantwood was ideal as it had a good restaurant and bar
everything was good
Friendly staff, good food, clean and a good location.
Room and corridors a bit scruffy and in need of a bit of a refurb.
Nice dining room & conservatory.
Menu & wine a bit pricey. Bar dingy & in need of redecoration.Bathroom very small, light hanging down from ceiling, ceramic beaker dirty. Bedroom small & in need of some redecoration. TV picture kept breaking up so couldn't watch it.
An excellent good old fashioned breakfast served by a pleasant member of staff
Location ans ease of access to main roads
Poor choice for breakfast, small portions, only 1hr for breakfast
Very good meal and it has a comfortable, cosy bar.
Needs a bit of maintenance
Downstairs in hotel and outside seating area nice ,
Bedroom decor dated.
We stayed on route to Scotland and had a beautiful, comfortable room. We we're well looked after, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent.
Gorgeous, quaint, well priced little gem in a great location. The staff couldn't do enough for us and we felt very welcome. A brilliant place!
Comfy bed, peace & quiet
Room paintwork a bit tired, toilet didn't always flush very well. Water ran cold intermittently during shower.
Lovely b/b feature hotel with fantastic conservatory food fantastic very friendly and very cosy establishment good pub up the road as well close to penrith and ulswater down the road
Nothing in particular
The staff were very courteous and helpful; the food was excellent
The bedroom was rather small though the bed was very comfortable. The bedroom window didn't have much of a view.
Staff didn't wait up to check me in even though I called to say exactly when I would be checking in. No staff on call, owner had to let me in. Room had thread bare carpet, soft mattress and had not been renovated since the late 70s. Then charged £100 for the privilege, i would have paid 30-40 for the room given it's condition. Breakfast was poor one rather if bacon n one sausage, pathetic IMO they clearly made £95 on my stay, wouldn't ever go back.
Small rooms and bathroom
this place is in middle of refurb which it does need, however this did not take away from the charm of the place. It is in a little village, has a lovely little garden, where we could watch chickens running around with their chicks, hear the birdsong, Staff were lovely, as was food in restaurant. we intend to return. Highly recommend.
As I say, rooms need a bit of attention to decor etc.
