Staff really friendly & helpful Room clean and tidy. Food was delightful. The best steak I have ever tasted, it melted in the mouth. They are better than some 4star hotels I have stayed at.

Pleasant, well appointed small hotel with attentive staff offering good food with comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. (a) No directions to the hotel from the m6 (b) our bedroom-no3 was on the small size and rather cramped. (c) The TV was poorly located for viewing from the bed.

Staff were very friendly and efficient, the meals were excellent and the 'small country hotel' atmosphere was wonderful. As others have mentioned..there is a need for some up-grading of the room(s?). No doubt this is on the list for the management! It just takes to edge off an otherwise great little hotel.

The restaurant food was excellent. Lots of choice and locally sourced where possible. Staff were very friendly and the service was very good. A nice cosy bar to relax in with a real log fire.

The hotel was in a really handy location. The price was great. The room (we were in room 6) was lovely and the bathroom was very nice (big bath, nice toiletries). We had drinks by the fire in the bar area and a meal which was good. The breakfast was also great - loads of choice and good quality produce.

The location, handy for a trip we were making in the Penrith area, lovely clean room Would have assisted the ambience if a fire had been lit in the bar downstairs, also the restaurant carpet is well past its sell by date and very threadbare in places and haled together with tape in others

The food was excellent! We chose the steak @£12.95 was good value.Well cooked, quality ingredients was clear, great accompaniments. Breakfast was delicious, plenty to choose from. Lovely dining room and bar area, relaxed and cosy. Car park and garden area were a lovely surprise. Location ideal for us, a stop off on our way for a weekend in Northumberland, booked at the last minute, an infinately better choice than a Premier Inn from the angle of homelyness. We were in the room directly at the top of the stairs which was adequate, a little over crowded with furniture but clearly a family room so we weren't bothered. What may have elevated the room from average to quality would have been a few tweeks such as a better shower curtain arrangement, a tidier paint job and a decision to have either chrome or brass effect accessories in the bathroom.
