The staff were brilliant at supper time and the room was nicely decorated .
I didn't stay all night as I was taken seriously I'll. no emergency numbers in room literature and unable to contact anyone on hotel emergency number. No staff available to assist. Suspected meningitis or bleed on brain so taken by ambulance at 4 am after we left hotel and headed for Newtown A & E which did not exist !! Ambulances from there to Shrewsbury, how were we to know !! Hotel sent e mail re bill next morning after we contracted them to explain ehat had happened. Paid bill in full , even had to pay for breakfast we did not have. Suggest info re emergencies added to room info immediately and staff answer emergency phone !
Atmosphere, convenience and informality; welcome and location
Food Atmosphere Proximity to Elan Valley Price
Convenient for travelling to North or South Wales along the A 470 for someone needing an overnight stop or short break. Very comfortable and warm, very frosty during my stay. Also convenient for those travelling East or West along the A44,
Bathroom and shower
Place was tired and needs attention to detail
Comfortable bed and bedding. Excellent breakfast. Good sized room.
Staff mostly pleasant enough but one a little cool. Some road noise.
friendly staff - Elaine. really comfy room, good tv/dvd, nice clean hotel
no lighting outside, not in the town, bar should be bottles.
The food and staff were good.
The accommodation was very basic, no central heating on so room very cold, water not hot, no mirror in bathroom, single glazed and traffic noise could be heard all night.
Excellent location, fab good, hotel does need a little bit of work but had a great time and would recommend.
Just needs a bit of revamp to make it more cosy. Its a very nice building.
Location, pet friendly
The food is good
Cold rooms, very poor heating arrangements
the food was good
we had no heating and no hot water
Great sized room Breakfast was nice Superb location
Had to find somebody to check in, even after ringing bell, and the same issue checking out. Nice house, but looking a bit tired and in need of TLC No shower, only handheld one.
Friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the food. Location.
Mattress too firm, found it difficult to get a good nights sleep. shower could have been better.
Friendly staff Good food
Only one draft beer available Poor TV reception
Location, character, staff friendly
Rooms are very basic, tired and run down
I do not take kindly to a cat attempting to eat my meal for me at the dinner table!
Not having a shower - but that only applies to some rooms.
True welsh country hospitality Room was amazing!
A relaxed atmosphere with an excellent restaurant serving locally sourced fresh food. Helpful staff . A hidden gem in Mid Wales.
Beautiful location. We stayed here, as it is only 5 minutes from the Red Kite Feeding Station. First impressions are that it is a bit gloomy, but this is an ex workhouse, and much of the old ambience has been maintained. However, the friendliness of the staff overpowered all that! We were in the Den, a little suite, upstairs over the restaurant. Little noise from below, and wifi was instant. The room was quirky, with low ceiling and a separate lounge area. Immaculately clean. Dinner started off well, with a beautifully presented prawn cocktail, but the lamb steaks were tough. We mentioned this, and the lady who looked after us was most gracious, offering me a fillet steak instead! I declined, as I had filled myself up with the veggies. However, on checking out the next morning, they had deducted a sizeable amount from our bill. Breakfast was very good, my husband had the full traditional and I had two boiled eggs, which were done to perfection. Altogether a good stay
The entrance to reception could be a little more cheerful. The little town of Rhayader is something and nothing. Not much in the way of shops or eating places. Better to avoid and eat in the hotel instead
We loved the location, the breakfasts and the staff were friendly and helpful enough.
There was a broken floor tile in the bathroom; the toilet seat wasn't secured properly and kept moving; the sink had a crack in it; the tv was poorly situated; the decor and carpet were well passed their best; overall the hotel is badly in need of maintenance.
