Before making the booking at “The Bull & Stirrup Hotel” I rang to see whether the single and double room was joined with a shared bathroom between the two rooms. The lady over the phone confirmed this to which I made the booking. My friends and I arrived at ‘The Bull & Stirrup Hotel” on the 2nd August to celebrate my birthday and were greeted by a young lady who was very nice and chatty which straight away made us feel very welcome however when we arrived at our rooms our opinion of “The Bull & Stirrup Hotel” soon changed. The room was in fact separate but next door with a shared bathroom with the whole floor. We didn’t see this as an issue to begin with seeing as though we were only staying for one night and didn’t want to cause a fuss. When the young lady was showing me around my room (I stayed in the single room) there was a ‘Lyncs’ can that had been left from whoever had stayed there previously on top on the wardrobe. The lady had seen this and quickly made a joke and removed it as though embarrassed by this. Later on when it came to putting my belongings in the draw provided I found a dirty knife and folk and a clump of hair. At this point I was not satisfied with the cleanliness of my room and simply felt ‘lived in’. The bathroom looked dirty and was very untidy but as this is a shared bathroom we realise the responsibility also lies with others on the same floor. At this point we considered checking into a different hotel however there was no availability due to the horse racing event taking place the same weekend. After discussing the cleanliness of the rooms we decided to bypass the issues and go out and have a good night and simply make the most of the trip. The following morning I got showered and ready to go out for our last day in Chester to find that my underwear was not where I had left it. I emptied my suitcase 4 times to see if I had missed placed these items and checked the room thoroughly.
the receptionist was helpful in trying to find new accomodation for us
we had a leak in our room and it was dripping onto one of the beds all night which kept us awake most of the night - the place is supposed to be sold and taken over by a new owner soon which kind of showed in the lack of tidyness of the room as well as the shared bathroom
Friendly staff on arrival. Good location.
I have never stayed in a more poorly maintained and dirty place in my life. On arrival we were told there was no hot water, the rooms had single beds, layers of dust, doors that didn't close properly, and while they did have TVs the screen on my netbook is larger. At checkout a miserable old crone barked at me that checkout was at 10 (it was 10.01) and didn't like it when I mentioned it would be useful to be told details like that at checkin. If you are desperate then this is OK but for the price you could probably get a nice little B&B.
The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. Without going into a big story, they were all very nice and went out of their way to help, literally. The location was good, with great parking. The atmosphere was spot on friendly. I would stay there again without a moments hesitation.
There was initially a mix up with bookings however the staff dealt with this very efficiently and even upgraded us and provided us with a complimentary drink. The staff were very friendly.
The shower didn't work.
Location Friendly staff
Bed Noise level
Great staff, clean and central location with free parking.
Location in town centre: perfect for numerous eating places-and city walls! (Small) Car park on premises- Had small (portable) fan in room if hot- Continental breakfast: pleasant choices of food including croissants, muffins, large variety of yoghurts, choice of cereals, bread, fresh fruit etc-- Waitress very fast worker and helpful. Bar staff pleasant and friendly-
Bedroom lock was weak and woobly(I reckon could have been forced wih a big shove)--No kettle, not even papercups--In my room no paper basket/bin (though could have been an oversight as I noticed one in another room?)-Only mirror in bedroom is a large 5 ft square resting on FLOOR and against the wall at an angle, away from window: not ideal for putting make up on (taking over communal wc+bathroom mirror just for that delays other clients!)-- Corridors walls & woodwork overall very shabby!
Easy to locate on arriving in chester, close to centre able to park easily staff were friendly pleasent during stay
very nice staff very helpful.hotel was just on the edge of the city centre.good parking was able to leave my car for a few hours after we checked out.
top floor no lift. could have done with a chair in the room instead of sitting on the bed.
no english breakfast
Location was great. Staff were lovely and very accommodating. Breakfast was basic but good
Very poor bed quality, I had to put the spare quilt over the matress due to the springs. Had to share a bathroom and toilet with the rest of the hotel. Basic decor was very old woodchip and door did not lock easily to our LITTLE room
Staff made you feel most welcome
The location was excellent near all shops bars and restaurants. The bar at the hotel was good and spacious. The landlady was really down to earth and friendly. We booked a triple room for 3 persons for £50 that's roughly £17 each for night including a breakfast in the morning which was served by a lovely old lady! Breakfast was continental but non the less very nice. You won't find a cheaper room for the night including breakfast in any town in England
Mattress springy needs some new ones. Most things looking a bit tired but it was 17 quid a night so just go with it
excellent location- 2 minutes from city centre, and free parking, good pub and cheap drinks.
used half bottles of toiletries- advertised as complimentary, stained towels, the bed smelt slept in, toilet brush disgusting and level of cleanliness very poor, dust and dirt under the beds. Advertised as B&B - doesn't specify toast and cereals only.
Great 2 days, the landlady (Sharon) was great, had a really good sense of humour , had the best laugh with her, would recommend this hotel to anyone.Location was great couldn't have been any closer to the city centre.Meeting Sharon was one of the high lights of our trip to the uk from Australia.
The breakfast was extremely poor. Nothing cooked and hardly a thing to choose from. The hotel needs drastic refurbishment. Stayed in other much better hotels for a similar price.
Staff were nice.
DIRTY! Bathroom mould on curtains etc toilet was placed to close to wall and you can't sit down in the normal position you have to sit sideways lol but true !!!!!
Windows would not stay open and it was a very hot night
friendly staff, good bathroom
poor wifi, small bed, difficult to find from railway station
Staff very friendly, and helpful. room clean
Too many stairs. three flights to family room
Location very close to town
Hot small room, shabby bathroom with tatty towels with holes. Very out dated and needs good over hall
Central to town
Room filthy, Thick with dust, Toothpaste in sink and Holder, Dirty floor in bathroom, toilet unflushed, toilet seat not fixed on properly, towel stained, no hot water in the morning to shower.Cups dirty- kettle dusty. Had we thought we could get accommodation elsewhere that evening we would not have stayed.
