The meal was excellent. Lamb cooked to perfection, fresh whitebait. Loved the breakfast. Informal and relaxing atmosphere and very helpful and friendly staff. Enjoyed ralaxing on the terrace with a pint at 5 and a malt in the bar after dinner.
Rooms need an update.
Being told four times that we had to vacate our dinner table by 8.30pm, when no other diners we're coming in for the next sitting.
Pub and restaurant seemed newly refurbished. Interesting art work. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food.
The guest rooms were in need of refurbishment.
Cute place, nice food, tidy comfy room. 10 minute drive from highclere castle (downton abbey). Would stay here again!
Musty carpet smell in some hallways.
Service and food quality in the retaurant Comfortable bed
Small rooms, tired decor
Rooms need updating.
Interesting sculptures in the dining room
Poor quality of mattress and pillows. Bad layout of bathroom making use of toilet and shower difficult. Dirty corners in bathroom. Broken blinds at bedroom window. Too dark in the dining room. I am sure the chips were frozen!
One if the bed side lamps was broken off and the other did not work. No shower just a bath. All evening there was a sound of a door banging. Stopped at bedtime.
Big white fluffy towels
Dirty sink and shower in the bathroom and a toilet seat which was too small for the toilet. The curtain ring was broken and hung down at one side and only just covered the window. The breakfast was meagre and over cooked with milk sitting in the sun streaming through the window. There were no lights on at the front of hotel or the car park so had to stumble to the front door each night. Over priced and playing off the name of Marco Pierre White. Would definitely not return.
Food was fantastic and they accommodated the vegetarians in our group very well. The staff where great and very helpfull.
The rooms needed a little up keeping with no hot water in 1 no TV in another, windows that were jammed open.
food amazing lovely country pub great to have rooms on site lovely bar area
Not a lot.
Noise location. Windows didn't close to keep noise out. Food was OK but not wonderful as you,d expect with it being a Marco Pierre White establishment. Other people were complaining too, so that's not a good sign. Wouldn't really recommend it.
Excellent food with very helpful staff. Very good location for Highclere Castle visit.
Some rooms in need of re-decoration and a good clean. Also the exterior looking a bit unkept, with grass and weeds growing over paved and stoned areas. Please Marco take time to walk around more often, it wouldn't take much to become perfect.
I thought the room was very good, the bed was very comfortable and I slept extremely well which is not that usual for me. The bathroom was nice with a very good shower. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were without exception polite, friendly and extremely helpful.
I arrived early evening and was a little surprised to find laundry outside the bedrooms as check out is 11 am. I was also a little disappointed not to be able to get any food that evening. Initially it wasn't a problem but my plans changed unexpectedly and I did not go out as planned.
Staff were great. Food good, altho chips soggy(expensive though). Situation for Highclere Castle brilliant, 2 minutes away.
Hotel was dirty, bar area cold feeling, tiles on wall which matched the ones in the toilets! Carpets old and unhoovered.Rooms tired looking, again looked unhoovered. Shower room basic and small. Overall, the interior was shabby and in need of a makeover. We felt it should have been of a higher standard, like the Marco Pierre White name...we feel let down.
Staff were excellent Room was very clean Location was excellent Food in restaurant was 1st class Service was slow, but we received a discount and complementary drinks - staff could not have been more apologetic
Ensuite was very poor - shower over bath, no shower curtain, very small room, only saving grace was that it was clean.
We didn't eat in the restaurant but the look and I am sure the food would have been spectacular.
The rooms were terrible. Small, tiny ensuite shower that did not drain away so I was standing in dirty water. Very basic room, not what would be expected. I had one hot shower in the three days I stayed and I shower in the morning and at night. Overcrowded hospitality tray. No apology for the quality of room other than to say we are upgrading the rooms slowly, this is not acceptable as an excuse when spending £70.00 per room x 2 rooms, over three nights. The only person we had contact with was the waiter (head?) each morning. I complained the 1st morning and never saw anyone and doubt my complaints went anywhere.
Food was good enough as was the wine and represented reasonable value. Would expected a bit more given the owner's name. Two of the staff were excellent. The property has great potential though.
Tiny room with stained carpet and shower and lots of cobwebs, 10 tripping hazards in the hallway - threadbare carpet and several curler up rugs. 2 or 3 staff who were clearly inexperienced and struggled on a very busy evening. Décor very tired both inside and outside - shame. The included continental breakfast only included tea or coffee, toast, orange juice and either cornflakes or muesli. An average B and B would offer a range of cereals and juices - and we would have expected more here - like charcuterie, cheese, croissants etc. Shortage of glasses in the bar so drinks served in wrong glasses.
good friendly staff, good location
small rooms, no iron or ironing board in room, not table for tea cups. no air con. rooms need updating, torn carpets.
Food was excellent and I would recommend this pub for a meal.
I arrived after 3 to be told my room might not be ready so had to wait. Some staff were very helpful but some were not. Accommodation was not very clean.
Good location for Highclere Castle
Staff were rude. Breakfast and service poor. Does not live up to the Wheeler's name.
The staff were excellent, friendly and provided goo service especially in the evening.
An overall impression of the "jaded" nature of the furnishings and decorations, although we did notice that certain refurbishments were taking place
Staff very friendly and helpful.
I liked the location, as it's just a 10 minute walk from Highclere Castle.
The dovet was massive fir a double bed and it was very thick and heavy for summer. It was impossible to sleep, as it was extremely uncomfortable. The breakfast was very poor.
