Staff, location, food, drink and locals.
Staff are really pleasant and helpful. Room was clean and breakfast was lovely.
Pillows too soft, noise from neighbouring pubs was far to loud. Our room had a smell of frying fat.
Rooms were very clean and staff very friendly and helpful.
The room I stayed in was very noisy so had very little sleep.
location - very convenient. Room was perfectly comfortable and was glad of a bath
No evening meal available though takeaway nearby was OK. Breakfast a little limited - no cereals etc on view to have before ordered cooked breakfast, but that was good.
After reading the previous reviews we called the hotel regarding the comments about the music. The staff were very friendly and honest about the lateness of the music and did supply earplugs - cannot ask for more than that! After all this is a pub/b&b trying to make a living. We thought the hotel was excellent value for money.
Staff and room and breakfast very good
Music from disco very loud from floor below!
clean warm room
town centre, no parking, breakfast we were offered cereal & toast or cooked full breakfast, cooked breakfast came on COLD PLATES, no fruit juice, or any help yourselve choice. On the back of the Bathroom door was a Bath towel that was wet and I guess had been left by someone else, as the clean ones were on the bed ?? this was after 8pm.
The unadvertised very load bar that runs below the room till 2 in the morning, staff suggested that it will be the neighbours who are noisy (and they are too) so they had provided ear plugs to help us to sleep! Offered breakfast at 8, but staff didn't even turn up on time so left before breakfast as we had work appointments. Hotel needs to decide if it is a bar or a hotel, the worst place I have stayed this year.
Noise coming from extractor fan and heating.
Great hotel, friendly staff, smart rooms with very comfy beds and excellent breakfast.
Wifi not working and thats my only gripe.
The staff were friendly and showed a genuine interest and were willing to help. Castle Bar hotel has been recently purchased and is undergoing a stage by stage refurb. I like the bedroom and breakfast restaurant décor
The frontage gives the impression of a public house however the new owners are looking to regenerate this to give a more hotel feel. Great and comfy place to stay. I would go back
Right in the middle of town, great if your there for a night out.
Very noisy until 2am when it started to calm down, no parking at the hotel.
Excellent location, very friendly staff, good service, would reccomend to anyone.
Bar had run out of Cafferys.
Friendly helpful staff, nice breakfast, value for money and good location.
Centre of town
Noisy due to the fact that the music downstairs went on to after 2am. At breakfast there were no glasses for the fruit juice, there were no bowls for the cereals. there was no bacon at breakfast, the egg was exceptionally over cooked and the hash browns were soaking in oil. toast was brick hard and the tea and sausages were very low standard.
Staff really frendly, food prices were good, drink prices good, modern look, rooms clean and spacious, breakfast lovely, noise level acceptable for location of rooms distance from bar area and other bars/clubs, ideal location for castle and shops and other local bars/clubs/restaurants. I enjoyed my stay so much I even paid extra and stayed an extra night ontop of my pre arranged leaving date
The location was great, the staff were very helpful, the room was exacltly as per the pictures on the website. You park your car just a couple of minutes to the hotel (not great) but it was cheap. It was just an all round great deal
Bar could do with better TV, Satalite options come the evening.
very friendly staff, very helpful and a lovely breakfast to start the day.
I needed a place to sleep for the night so looked for somewhere inexpensive . The staff were great (and funny) on arrival. The room was spotless and well decorated. And it included a full English breakfast. Can't fault it, excellent value for money.
If you need wifi request it, my room had none but I had 3G so no problem for me.
Staff very keen to please. Breakfast
Still no beer and a long way from a quiet pint! Some lights not working
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice room with hot powerful shower. For those looking for a town centre hotel at a very reasonable price this is ideal Sunday to Thursday.
At the weekend there is a lot of noise from late night revellers using the nearby bars. If you are looking for a late night out however, then it's ideal.
No wi-fi in room
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Nightclub downstairs on Saturday until 2am very noisy and impossible to sleep. Takeaway left in the drawer in room. No toiletries.
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. The comfort of the rooms. The cleanliness of whole place. The very good breakfasts. The excellent value for money. The excellent location for Auckland Castle which is across the square, five minutes walk away. I would definitely stay at the Castle Bar Hotel again and I would definitely recommend it.
No wi-fi in rooms and the noise of disco on Saturday night is not great (but we were warned when we arrived). Wi-fi however is important and it does say on the website that the Castle has it but the reality is there is no reception at all in the rooms (although there is in one bar downstairs) and no information about this in the rooms. Parking is in public car parks nearby and you have to get up and go out and buy a ticket before 8am (weekdays) which is of course a nuisance but ok as the town is so peaceful. I would definitely stay at the Castle Bar Hotel again and I would definitely recommend it. It would be helpful if the information on the website was amended on the website.
