A charming English manor house close to route A1, with a gym, swimming pool, sauna and spa. Wi-Fi is free and food is served all day.

In scenic Croxdale, the Honest Lawyer Hotel is just a 5 minute drive from Durham center. With a restaurant and terrace, the hotel offers modern, motel-style rooms with free parking outside your room.
Score from 935 reviews Very good
The location was great, the staff were very helpful, the room was exacltly as per the pictures on the website. You park your car just a couple of minutes to the hotel (not great) but it was cheap. It was just an all round great deal
Bar could do with better TV, Satalite options come the evening.
very friendly staff, very helpful and a lovely breakfast to start the day.
I needed a place to sleep for the night so looked for somewhere inexpensive . The staff were great (and funny) on arrival. The room was spotless and well decorated. And it included a full English breakfast. Can't fault it, excellent value for money.
If you need wifi request it, my room had none but I had 3G so no problem for me.
Staff very keen to please. Breakfast
Still no beer and a long way from a quiet pint! Some lights not working
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice room with hot powerful shower. For those looking for a town centre hotel at a very reasonable price this is ideal Sunday to Thursday.
At the weekend there is a lot of noise from late night revellers using the nearby bars. If you are looking for a late night out however, then it's ideal.
No wi-fi in room
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Nightclub downstairs on Saturday until 2am very noisy and impossible to sleep. Takeaway left in the drawer in room. No toiletries.
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. The comfort of the rooms. The cleanliness of whole place. The very good breakfasts. The excellent value for money. The excellent location for Auckland Castle which is across the square, five minutes walk away. I would definitely stay at the Castle Bar Hotel again and I would definitely recommend it.
No wi-fi in rooms and the noise of disco on Saturday night is not great (but we were warned when we arrived). Wi-fi however is important and it does say on the website that the Castle has it but the reality is there is no reception at all in the rooms (although there is in one bar downstairs) and no information about this in the rooms. Parking is in public car parks nearby and you have to get up and go out and buy a ticket before 8am (weekdays) which is of course a nuisance but ok as the town is so peaceful. I would definitely stay at the Castle Bar Hotel again and I would definitely recommend it. It would be helpful if the information on the website was amended on the website.
I left my tablet in the room and the cleaning staff returned it to resulting in them calling me to collect the tablet thank you
The location. Well appointed, clean rooms. Good breahkfast
The hotel runs discos to 2 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The sound level was so high that ear plugs are provided in the hotel rooms! Sleep, even on the second floor, was impossible. The hotel management should decide whether they want to run a hotel or a disco - they can't do both.
room was quite comfortable and had all facilities staff were polite and helpful, despite see 'what I didn't like' breakfast room pleasant & fairly comprehensive menu will need more than 200 characters for red box but here goes
noise from in-house disco until 2.00 a.m intolerable -no sleep noise from club across the road 4.00 a.m-screaming/shouting/taxis etc.money taken from account on arrival day -so no redress re paying the bill-asked to be contacted by owner-hasn't happened yet
Location, noise, food, hotels reluctance to accept complaint even though a staff member did apologise for noise which was totally unacceptable. The hotel advertised did not match the reality in any way.
Friendly staff,Chris was especially helpful. Good breakfast. Clean and comfortable room. Sunday lunch was value for money.
The noise from across the street which the hotel has no control over.
Unfortunately I did not get a name, but the man you appeared to be running the pub & the hotel could not have been more helpful. I would recommend the Castle Bar to anyone planning to be in the area for a few days. A for more personal experience than a chain hotel. Rooms very clean & comfortable, had a great nights sleep.
There was a club next door which was very noisy in the early hours of Sunday morning. Apart from this our stay was very pleasant.
Leaving the next day
Most of what was on the menu for dinner wasn't available due to 'we've been very busy today' What we did get was greasy and cheap. The noise downstairs from the wedding party sound system went on till 2am at levels that made our ears ring, no sleep at all until 3pm and had to get up by 6pm to get to Newcastle for the Great North Run which was not ideal preparation!! The shower was a trickle of water and the cold tap was nearly as hot as the hot tap. Don't stay here it is terrible.
The rooms were nice and had everything needed. The man who seemed to be running the bar, food and hotel was super helpful and polite, a really nice guy. However he was on his own and looked like he could have done with a helping hand, he had a lot to deal with as there was quite a few guests having dinner and the woman who I presumed to be the boss was just sat in the restaurant area. He was great though and deserves some praise.
The hotel was opposite a noisy club which opens til late, wasn't too much of a hindrance and would be great if youwere visiting for a night out, but we were getting up early for the great north run so couldn't make the most of the nightlife!
Staff helpful. Room facilities OK. Breakfast good
Pub noise till 2 pm
Was not very happy to find out from the hotel staff upon arrival after a 5 hour drive that there was a club next door and some noise maybe heard! This was not stated upon booking and with my daughter of 5 with us is not very child friendly! The noise was of a loud volume until nearly 4oclock each morning!! Not happy that this was mentioned before booking after parting with hard earned money this should of been shown in the info about the hotel!
when i arrived, the staff were friendly and helpful, especially as they couldn't find my booking. while they sorted out a room for me, i was offered a complimentary drink while they sorted out the mistake. the double room was clean and nicely furnished, and the en suite was lovely too, also the hairdryer was of good quality and not a cheap travel one.
There was some sort of generator making a low fan like noise all the time and also the noise from the bar downstairs til 2am and noise outside til 4am made it difficult to sleep, but I was out late myself anyway so wasn't really a problem. There was only one mirror which was in the bathroom, this made it difficult when using the hairdryer and also the lighting wasn't very good in there to do make up.
when we arrived i thought o my god what have i booked? looking from the out side it just looked like your every day local boozer. The inside was not much better when we went in and asked were the reception desk was the bar was also the reception. The staff was very friendly and when she showed us to our room we was very surprised it was very modern large and welcoming with a very large tv on wall. The bathroom was also large it was great very surprised had a great nights sleep and breakfast was good. The town was there soon as you stepped out of the door it's great would recommend it with out a doubt.
The only thing i could fault is the bath plug i had a shower but my husband had a bath. The plug had broken off it's chain so when my husband went to pull the plug out he could not get it out. I also tried but could not remove it so we had to leave the bath water in so we could not to have a shower or bath in the morning. My husband would not let me go and complain so to be fair if we did they would of sorted it out for us.
Had a top stay at this hotel. Staff were very friendly on arrival, during the day and on the night. Ideal for any visits to the castle. Was warned about the music from surrounding area but never heard a thing. Cheers.
1) Staff welcoming when we arrived late 2) Room was clean with clean linen and towels 3) good view of the town hall and the market square 4) would suit a young person if seeking a quick last minute accomadation who likes the night life
1) bulding tired and rundown, no free parking, opposite to a night club 2) dirty, dark and smelly staircase 3) lights werent in working order 4) bed squeeking and uncomfortable 5) can hear all the noises going on the street even people talking, inspite of closing the windows, blinds and curtains. Noisy night club opposite so we couldnt sleep at all through out the night. 6) breakfast felt like microwaved sausage (spongy sausage), no option given of how we wanted our eggs. Poor quality breakfast. 7) dining room dirty with sticky floor, dirty table and chairs. Apart from the welcoming staff, this is by far the worst hotel to stay in. Apologies to the owner for the honest feedback.
The breakfast was very tasty and the beds very comfortable. We had attended a wedding reception in the town hall and this was right opposite, which was fantastic.
The bar beneath the hotel was a little noisy but luckily we were far enough away for it to be okay. People closer to the bar may not be so lucky.
