Very, very noisy at night
1. The breakfast 2. The pleasant and friendly staff 3. Central location
1. The TV had no connection via an antenna (and looked as if it never had) so was useless 2. The side lamp had a broken plug so was unusable 3. The separate bathroom was in severe need of repair with no mount for the shower head 4. The bed was very old and uncomfortable 5. The place becomes a noisy night club on Saturday nights and we had to negotiate with a bouncer to get back to our room 6. There was no functioning card reader so we were asked to go to a cash point in order to pay the bill 7. We paid the £85 under duress as we felt that the MAXIMUM which should be charged for this room should be £50 but the staff had no authority to agree to anything or fix any problems. 8. I have emailed all the above to the management and have yet to receive any reply.
Room sizes were quite alright. Facillities provided (essentials). Clean toilets. Clean bedroom.
Wifi not availble in the bed rooms which were really annoying. Also, we requested 2 family rooms but got 3 smaller rooms instead. Did not get what we were promised.
Rotten service. Rotten room. Rotten noise until 3am from the pub downstairs and next door. Rotten breakfast. Rotten value for money. Avoid.
The room is not clean enough and it's too noisy in the night. So many young people screamed and shouted at midnight.I'M NOT SATISFIED.
They cancelled my (non-cancellable) booking weeks after I had made it and ignored all communication. After much effort I could only find very expensive or distant alternative accommodation so had to cancel my trip and miss the social event I was attending. Avoid them if you need to rely on your booking.
Location and price.
Noise and facilities.
Staff very polite and helpful. Very clean. Good breakfasts, both continental and full English. Secure entrance. Great value and location.
Street noise until small hours...ear plugs help this somewhat.
Great spot on the main drag, near the park and bus stop. Walking distance to river and shopping etc. However it's directly above a bar which can get a bit noisy.
The location was the best thing about the place...right in the heart of the city. Friendly staff, rooms a decent size.
The room was kind a little dingy, but not too bad, and the TV didn't work. Don't go here at the weekend if you want a relaxing stay as the pub underneath gets noisy.
The only good thing about this B&B was the location.
Where to start?! Upon arrival we were told to pay upfront in cash despite giving booking.com my card details. The room was grotty and cramped. There was a tv which didn't work and only 2 of the 4 sockets worked which meant you had to constantly swap items around. The noise from outside and the pub down below, as well as the paper thin walls between rooms meant we got no sleep. The shared bathroom was disgusting and the shower was broken meaning I had to hold it to have a shower. There was no hairdrier and given the frosty reception we had received from the manageress we didn't bother to ask for one. The "continental" breakfast (no other option given without paying a supplement) consisted of toast, slices of cucumber, tomato, a piece of cheese and a piece of ham alongside a segment of apple and orange. All in all this was a disgrace.
Tv that didn't work. Considerable noise during the night outside a single glazed window.
Not much. The breakfast was nice until Graham sneezed on mine. The location was useful.
The spiders bite me and left a puncture wound which is still with me many weeks later. The bathrooms were far away.
Extremely noisy at night as bar turns into a night club. Goes on at a weekend till 3.30 am.
Great central location. Lovely breakfasts. Very friendly waitress at breakfast
Lots of street noise all the through the night. Made it difficult to sleep at times. Long waiting time at the bar in the morning waiting to order breakfast/check-out.
Friendly staff. Nice quirky building.
Shared bathroom and also not enough shared bathrooms. Could have done with another mirror in the room.
friendly and helpful staff, great location in Cambridge, good breakfast, free wi-fi, comfortable beds
rooms on street side noisy, towels and bedding smelled musty
It's quite noisy at night since the ground floor of the hotel is used as a bar with jarring music.
Ideal location for Corn exchange which was reason for visit about 5 minute walk.
Very busy nightlife inside and outside on streets. Very poor if not joining in and need to sleep before 4am. Security door from downstairs to accommodation broken also.
Top location, in the centre of Cambridge
Very jaded, and dusty throughout. Very noisy at night - busy road with many people clubbing/ pubbing in to the early hours as well as a returning busker until 2am in the morning. Breakfast is impossibly late. Credit card not accepted and a poor welcome.
In the run up to my stay I attempted to contact the hotel several times to iron out some of the details of my stay. I called the number on the website dozens of times over 3 weeks prior to my stay but no one picked up my call and it was not possible to leave a message. I resorted to emailing them, but received no response. When at the hotel, my sleep was disturbed by the base of the DJ playing below to roughly 3am. The hotel did warn about 'live music' although I did not take this to mean a DJ. Our room was tiny - the double bed was pushed right up against the wall with barely any space to move around. Furthermore, we were woken early as the room was right next door to the noisy laundry room. I will not be returning.
I was there on business so needed to iron some shirts. No iron available as the previous one was broken and no managers were working in the 4 days I stayed. Breakfast not served til 8.30 which makes it impossible for business. The shower head was broken off the wall so had to be held. At this price, I was not expecting the Ritz, but there are many basic things which could be changed to make the stay more practical and welcoming.
Booking. com has not informed us that the Castle B&B hotel ground floor area will be having dancing activities during Friday and Saturday night and non stop continue until 3.00 am. Crowded of people and so noisy until 4.00 am. How you expecting our children to sleep? And also during peak hours, their staffs ( I am not sure whether staff or outsider customers? ) keep walking in and out from the guest room area just wanted to use the guest bath room which located outside of guest room and creating noise by the drunk people walking style. It has created unsafe environment for the guest like us and yet we have to pay for the hotel room charges with this kind of situation. On top of that they even blame my husband smoking in this area and want us to pay Euro 100.00 which we have refused to pay. Right now they say will charge to my credit card and yet when we check in can't use credit card but cash payment instead which we do not bring along with us so much. I hope Booking. Com can do something about this and ask them to explain.
When it was time to checkout.
Windows are not double glazed so your kept awake til 4am from the people in the streets. Then up at 7am with everyone going for showers, banging bedroom doors. Music didn't really bother us.
It is very conveniently located, close to the bus station as well as to the colleges which is what one wants to see as a tourist in Cambridge.Clean rooms and very pleasant staff! They let us check- in before their scheduled time as we had heavy luggage with us. Worth staying in!!
