Amazing service from lovely helpful staff. Fabulous room, eventhough it was a single it was a reasonable size & had a large bathroom. The only problem was being able to hear the TV in the next room & people in the corridor - probably cos both were loud when people were drunk later in the evening!

Classy hotel in the centre of town. Great parking and wifi, booked a single room and it was quite spacious. Breakfast not included in deal, £90 for a single room I would have expected at least a continental choice.

We visited Taunton for a family event. The hotel was superb. The traditional luxury, service, ambience was excellent. The staff really cared about your experience with the hotel. If only other hotels behaved like this one !,

Excellent room decor and comfort. Excellent menue and the chef is to be congratulated on the standard of cooking. But see below! Disappointed that he formal dining room was not open for dinner. The piped music in the 'cafe' and lack of formality was not condusive to the high standard of dining and such excellent food.

Nice warm welcome, very pleasant over the 'phone too. (The guy said 'Fantastic!' about the prospect of our arrival.) Lovely room and bathroom, with plenty of space. There were blinds behind the curtains to ensure the room was dark. We were disappointed that the room didn't have air conditioning. It was a warm night and our hotness disturbed our sleep.

Unfortunately the resident restaurant is now closed and a non resident bistro is the only place for dinner that is available. This has the knock on effect of making the hotel appear empty with no buzz or ambience at all. The staff could "sell" the facilities better such as the garden and make the guests feel a lot more pampered than they do currently.

Comfort of room and tasteful furnishings. Good room service and variety of drinks on hospitality tray. It was lovely to stay in such a historic building. Room service needed due to health problems of some of the party during stay. Would have liked a little more choice on room service menu.

Really lovely large room with good sized bathroom The breakfast. It was extreemly expensive and too few staff in dining room/Kitchen to cope with the volume of guests. We waited 20-30 minutes for the tureens in the hot buffet to be filled with food and tyhen it disappeared in seconds as all the other guests in the breakfast room were experiencing the same problems.

Great location on Castle Green (not green anymore but a car park) with a good outlook and had a lot of old world charm. Very spacious reception area You cannot, I suppose, have old world charm and bang up to date facilities at the same location, but the room in which I stayed, a single, was rather small. £15 for breakfast is quite expensive for Taunton - I had an evening meal at a very good local French restaurant for only £2 more!!!

A family run hotel with a beautiful and charming building with atmosphere and history. Located in a central part of Taunton with a good car park and facilities. Makes a nice change from the chain business hotels. Couldn't fault it!

A lovely hotel with great staff that accepts dogs! We will return. The hotel's Bratz restaurant was also excellent for wide and unusual menu choice, presentation, quality of cooking and service with a great buzzy atmosphere. Guests should be aware however that the hotel's more formal gourmet restaurant is no longer open except for breakfast (which was excellent); hopefully that will change. It would be nice if the dogs, staying in room with us, we're also allowed in perhaps the lobby area so we could have a drink or tea without having to banish them to the car. Very European approach but one that UK hoteliers could adopt.

Location- extremely central and easy to find. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Price was far to high for what essentially resembled a b&b room- you're paying for a past reputation and the hotel exterior.
