Very pleasant hotel with friendly, helpful and informative staff. Has a pleasant old-time quality, but facilities are modern and clean. Main staircase a very impressive feature. Dinner in the brasserie was superb, and matched the standard of the Rick Stein places in Cornwall where we had dine for the previous two nights. Buffet breakfast very good too.

Amazing service from lovely helpful staff. Fabulous room, eventhough it was a single it was a reasonable size & had a large bathroom. The only problem was being able to hear the TV in the next room & people in the corridor - probably cos both were loud when people were drunk later in the evening!

The overriding impression was the courtesy of the staff. Perhaps a wider selection of local real ales!

Looks nice from the outside The Castle Hotel looks tired. Reception staff pleasant but not smart in appearance. The room sold to me as a superior room was not at this standard. The second room was better. ( I constantly travel on business) The room was cold and when I asked for the heating to be put on I was told that this could not be controlled from the inside but by the outside temperature. It WAS cold outside! When I asked for it to be sorted it wasn't done with particularly good grace. Room service was relatively expensive with a usual tray charge and on top of this a discretionary service charge was added to my bill. Continental breakfast was had, but a full breakfast was added to my bill.

I needed to be near the County Cricket Ground so the location was excellent. Th staff were very courteous and helpful and the room very comfortable and well equipped. I think it is a little overpriced but subject to tariff would happily stay there again.

The room was comfortable, the staff were all polite and helpful. The lack of a restaurant was very disappointing, the atmosphere of the "Brazz" did not match the quality of the rest of the hotel.

Felt at home from the moment we arrived. Porter help us with our bags and gave us a room review. Reception friendly and manager served us then we required a drink mid afternoon. Brazz restaurant was excellent, young lively, polite, efficent staff. Food well presented and good value. Unfortunatley the area at the front of the hotel is a building site at the moment, due to the council, however this did not spoil our stay. Hotel hard to find even with sat nav.

A lovely old building with courteous staff. Excellent dinner in the 'Brazz'. My (single) room was rather basic. I felt there were too many adverts everywhere for the owner's book. The words 'Gold Award' in the name of the hotel are unnecessary. I would have preferred to be quoted a price that includes breakfast.

The welcome as soon as you walk through the doors is very warm and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It is a pity more hotels are not like the castle I shall certainly be staying again, this visit was my first but will certainly not be my last. Would certainly give 10 out of 10 all round.

Lovely hotel, staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The food was exquisite and the best I have had in a long time. Given I had chosen a single room it was clean and sufficient for a good nights sleep.

A lovely hotel with great staff that accepts dogs! We will return. The hotel's Bratz restaurant was also excellent for wide and unusual menu choice, presentation, quality of cooking and service with a great buzzy atmosphere. Guests should be aware however that the hotel's more formal gourmet restaurant is no longer open except for breakfast (which was excellent); hopefully that will change. It would be nice if the dogs, staying in room with us, we're also allowed in perhaps the lobby area so we could have a drink or tea without having to banish them to the car. Very European approach but one that UK hoteliers could adopt.

Location- extremely central and easy to find. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Price was far to high for what essentially resembled a b&b room- you're paying for a past reputation and the hotel exterior.
