We booked two rooms at the Cathedral Hotel, just minutes away from our house, for visiting family overflow at Christmas – one couple, one single and two brothers. The experience of all of them was excellent, and the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly to them.
The room was great, modern, clean and the bed was comfortable
The room was above a pub and at the back of the hotel overlooking the rear courtyard. It was incredibly noisy with revellers shouting and screaming until 2.00am when the pub finally closed.
The staff were attentive and on hand at all times. The hotel was ideally located in town and didn't need a car to get around. Relaxed environment during day and not overly noisy at night just the dull background music from bar but we had been warned. Everywhere was clean and cosy and the food was excellent.
The room was fine and the location is very handy for the market square and centre of town.
If you want to feel like a teenager that's forgotten their front door key and had to knock up their parents then this hotel is the one for you. Guests are not allowed their own front door key (or were'nt when I stayed there in December 2014) so you are reliant on a member of staff being available to open the front door for you. In my case I had to knock on the door and rap on the window (approx 5 - 6 mts) before anyone came along to open it. Also when checking out there was no member of staff around that could do this. There was a guy who had been working on the bar but apparently he could'nt multi-task. I had to hang around for about 15 minutes while he got a member of staff ( who'd been out at the shops) to come and do this for me. I have suggested some re-training for staff that would allow them to be multi-functional to avoid this happening in future.
Good location, friendly staff . breakfast was good, served hot & quick. The music stopped at 2.05am,could hardly hear it on the 3rd floor.
Being woken up from3.30am by a female member of staff in the courtyard with a big mouth shouting about taking her clothes off! Not a good image to set for the hotel also she was so loud we thought she was in the corridor but looked out to see them outside at 4am,, would've used hotel again but as we couldn't sleep id not return due to one staff member!
1) The comfortable n spacious room was a plus point. 2) The really really friendly staff. N Tilly was especially a ray of sunshine. Such bright beautiful smiles fm her no matter how busy and wit the general manager - really lovely people!! 3) FANTASTIC location!!! Tat was the best ever n definitely played a huge part in us staying 2 more days
1) No phone in the room - was inconvenient for our friends who came to visit to get us. 2) No movie channels - all we could get on TV was the news n music. 3) The smell of the place wen we first walked in the lobby/pub - reeking of alcohol n smoke - we wondered abt where we were n whether we shd stay. 4) Our first dinner experience wit the penne wit tomato sauce (we don't eat meat) was such a put off tat we never had another meal at the restaurant. We left both plates barely touched. It really could not be eaten. It was soggy n tasteless. N definitely straight from a box or bottle with nothing added to giv it the uplift it definitely needed.
Central location, very relaxed
the location Is perfect, everything you need is within the walking range. Market area, Tesco, Apple Store, bus stops etc all within few minutes walking range. For me, my Skydiving location was 50 minutes walk which is perfect.
Location Price Breakfast
Very loud and hectic in bar area.
Close to the Train Station.
Right in the centre of town
Parking is not easy Access to the hotel is through a very busy bar
location and reasonable food prices.
We liked everything & couldn't find fault with anything
Very good location for everything. Friendly staff. Well stocked bar. Good size room.
Noisy location - late night revellers and early morning traffic. Small bathroom and shower. Bed was large but not the best for comfort
Staff were pleasant and helpful, everything was clean.
The club opposite was unbelievable noisy and the bathroom at the end of room that wasn't en suite was a pain, especially in the middle of the night. I also found it very difficult to get the room door to open.
this hotel was central to salisbury town, the staff were very attentive, breakfast was good, relaxing atmosphere in the day,
lift very small, busy in the evenings,
Close proximity to everything in the centre of Salisbury
Rooms a bit noisy being in the night club area of town. Ear plugs were provided so the hotel knew it would be noisy.
Pleasantly surprised that we weren't disturbed by the bar on a Saturday evening. The room was spacious and clean, there was a good variety for breakfast and the location is very central.
Breakfast service could be improved, we were unsure of the process, had to go ask the staff for things rather than them come to the table
It is not difficult to show that you have a serious regard for your customer. While I went on an errand, having just registered, I asked the desk to look after my newly bought newspaper . On returning the newspaper was missing ! There was a scant apology and it took about an hour before a newspaper was given to me. It had been well read and parts missing. Very poor management that gives the impression that as a customer you are of no consequence.Do I recommend this hotel? No. Will I visit again ? Only if there were no other rooms available within fifty miles. .
Breakfast was very nice.
Didn't like being locked out at night as it was only ten past eleven! Sunday dinner was very poor and had a 40 minute wait.
The location cleanliness and comfort of ropm
The breakfast was not up to standard bacon was like chewing cardboard and the fried egg was just about runny and had been hacked to pieces was given a £5 discount on bill and apology from reception and would look into it
Very convenient and you felt it was an independent hotel and not part of a chain. We got used to the lift to the 3rd floor and it was quite entertaining in the end. Particularly liked the fact that breakfast was cooked specially and quickly to order, unlike luxury hotels who lay everything out under hot lamps and it tastes of nothing.
No clothes hooks on back of bathroom door. Not possible to get any fresh air into room, normally there are vents, but we could not find them. Room was quiet even though we faced the street. Curious that the lace curtains were trapped in the double glazing.
Location was great, and excellent value for money. Excellent bed and overall very good experience.
It would have been nice to have a bath instead of shower in the ensuite, but that is something just personal.
Location, Staff, Cleanliness.
Bed too hard.
Staff very helpful, room was very nice and the hotel was well placed for everything.
Was a little disappointed that my pre authorised credit card was used to settle my bill, when I was assured it was only a pre authorisation. I specifically said I wanted to pay cash when I arrived.
