Very friendly, helpful, attentive staff. Well furnished, clean, spacious bedroom with lovely comfortable bed. Great cooked breakfast. Quiet location with off street parking.

a short walk to cockington village or a 10mins to torquay we enjoyed the breakfast, a good selection of cearels,juices and a very good cooked breakfast with all good local produce les is a very good chef. we would recommend this hotel to anyone,

It's an excellent, well-run business, with lots of personal touches which no 5-star hotel could even hope to match. We've stayed in Atlantis in Dubai and 5-star in New York, both excellent, but of course more impersonal. The Charterhouse gets it right!

Lovely B & B. Very friendly and helpful owner. Situated along a nice country lane but less than 5 minutes walk from the seafront. This B & B is perfectly situated for a nice walk to Cockington Village.

Marion & Les are the perfect hosts, we would certainly be returning to the Charterhouse.

My partner and I stayed at The Charter House Hotel and we really loved it. It is located close to a beautiful bay, and close to Cockingington a lovely thatched village, and is only a short walk or drive into the centre of Torquay harbour. It was a fantastic experience from arrival to departure. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated in a modern but grand style and was very welcoming after our drive. We were offered hot drinks before checking in, just to find our feet and stretch our legs after the drive. Our room was really spacious (Superior double) and bright with a large bathroom with bath and a shower. Everything was superbly clean and tidy, with a great range of drawers and cupboards for all of our kit. Marion and Les were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast..... Well, I had read the reviews before we came to stay and I can honestly say it's all true. Every taste was catered for, from continental style breakfast, simple fruit and yoghurt and a range of breads special home made by Les. The cooked breakfasts were just superb, and the whole service was run like clockwork. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody wishing to stay in the Torquay area. We can’t thank Marion and Les enough for a wonderful stay. This hotel deserves more than 3 stars.

The list is long, but firstly we were made to feel "at home" by our hosts Marion and Les. They could not have done more to make our stay any more enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable as was the en-suite facilities. The food at breakfast was sensational with fresh fruit and local produce, We will recommend to all our family and friends.

Warm welcome from Les & Marion - nothing too much trouble. Excellent room, good decor, very comfy king size bed. Gluten free diet well catered for, including biscuits on hospitality tray. Very good breakfast with homemade bread & marmalade/jams. Locally sourced ingredients in cooked breakfast. 2 minutes from watermeadow walk to Cockington Court.

Forget any fears of Torbay guest houses you might have, Marion made us welcome from the moment we arrived, we will be back.

it is a great place to stay with a lovely location and rooms, the staff are very frendly and could'nt do enough to help and recomended some great places to see and go in the area, we will be staying with them again.

Marion, the landlady, made us feel incredibly welcome and went out of her way to recommend activities and places to visit whilst we were in Torquay - we followed her advice on the Saturday and ended up having a very memorable day of coastal walks, cave visits and a renowned Devon cream tea - none of which we would have stumbled across without Marion's advice. Les, the landlord, complements her energetic enthusiasm perfectly with his laid back friendliness. The hotel itself was very pleasant; the room was a good size with a very nice, clean bathroom. The breakfasts, rustled up by Les, are worth the visit in themselves. Delicious full English breakfasts filled with local produce, home-made bread and wonderful home-made preserves. The hotel itself is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the centre of Torquay and almost next to the train station, whilst perfectly placed for a Sunday morning stroll to the quaint village of Cockington. Thanks so much, Marion & Les, for making my birthday weekend so enjoyable - we fell for Devon on our trip, thanks in no small part to staying at the Charterhouse.

Easy parking and easy to find. Very welcoming and anything you needed was never too much trouble. Very child friendly and a happy household to come into. Breakfast very good with lots of new things to try and all with a personal touch.

Location meant it was slightly too far from the centre of things for us.

The Charterhouse was immaculately clean, light and airy, the food was excellent and the owners were absolutely first class. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will go back again. Maps were provided along with information on bus/train timetables and eateries. Home made bread, jams and marmalades make for a culinary heaven! The room was lovely, along with a huge, soft bed which made for a good nights sleep. You can see why it is rated 2nd out of 146 hotel/boarding house.

The owner, Marion, was very friendly and welcoming. She gave us tips on where to visit locally which helped plan our short stay and make best use of our time and local sights to see. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We had access to the room whenever we wanted which was brilliant as one day an afternoon nap was most welcome! (Some places you have to stay out till a certain time but not here - it was like being at home).

The owners are really friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were superb. The location is within walking distance of Torquay and Cockington.

I couldn't find any criticisms about the Charterhouse and would stay here again.

the lady that runs this place is a star. so friendly, so helpfull, so lovely and genuinely interested in getting to know her guests. the place is spotless but homely and comfortable, the breakfasts are amazing and the location couldnt be better. made to feel very welcome and would deffinately return. you wont find better hospitality anywhere.

The propretor went out of her way to be helpful, she just wanted everything to be perfect. The breakfasts were amazing, there was everything you could want and the rooms were lovely, very comfortable and spacious.

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere

Nice place on outskirts of Torquay. Breakfast only hotel. Car park over sensitivity. Lovely room with sneak sea view. Charming sunny garden. 5 mins walk to limited sea front. £6 taxi ride to energetic town centre. No nearby pub. 20 mins footpath walk to Cockington village with one massive lytchins designed thatched pub.. And gigantic tea garden with outdoor piano! Terrific hostess. Hospitality maximo.....Pool gratefully enjoyed by visiting grandchildren. A very English gem.
