Location, food and value
Affable service, delightful period bedroom and very quiet, outstanding food, parking 10 yards from the front door, and all for less than the cost of a Travelodge.
Wi-Fi available only in the bar - but this was a very minor inconvenience.
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, pleasant location, enjoyable food with a varied menu .
Had some problems finding it but it was dark.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. including excellent walkers size breakfast. Good local ales.
Very welcoming. Relaxed atmosphere & great food. Staff where all very helpful & made the stay very enjoyable.
Nothing we really enjoyed our stay.
The food and the service was excellent and the log fires just made it very special
There was nothing not to like
After an arduous journey we were welcomed to the Chequers by the enthusiastic owner. Rooms were welcoming, fantastic bathroom in room 1. Returned from Chatsworth for dinner at 8pm.....the Game Menu was out of this world. We all had an excellent meal. The breakfast was equally as good. We shall return next year.
spacious and comfortable twin room. pleasant and helpful staff real ale
decor a little tired bathroom could be cleaner though not poor enough to complain
thought the breakfast could have been a lot bigger .
Lovely helpful staff. Kindly sent us some left behind property.
Fantastic food and very friendly staff, highly recommend staying at this lovely pub/Inn
Bed could be updated as the mattress was not the most comfortable - very firm
Excellent, excellent! !
Overall welcoming staff and level of service. Good food.
Lighting in the bedroom No remote for TV
The quality of the food was good (but very expensive) and the geographical location convenient for visiting Chatsworth House.
Our roadside room was noisy even at night with the window shut. The rest of the property in general was in need of TLC.
Great food, warm and welcoming, friendly staff, lovely position on the Edge
Needs a reading light, room rather dark.
Large comfortable room, pleasant staff a great find.
Lovely old beams, open fires and lots of character. Debbie the Manager and all the staff were friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble. Definitely not your average Pub food as the Chef really knows what he is doing!! Highly recommended!
The food & attention to detail
staff, food was delicious, beautiful bathroom, lots of hot water
bed was really quite uncomfortable, but a member of staff said they were about to refurb that bedroom
The staff were friendly and attentive and the quality of the food was excellent.
Lovely room spacious and cosy
Food was absolutely delicious! Lovely warm fire and great selection of wine. Peaceful location- great nights sleep in the comfortable four poster room. Value for money paid .
Liked everything !
Dinner was excellent, using local varieties of food and appeared freshly cooked to order.
The accommodation was excellent. Our dinner was also excellent. Breakfast was very relaxing and the service first class. The staff were friendly, helpful and willing to answer any queries.
Only two things that we felt worth mentioning. The Inn is on a very busy road and through the night traffic noise was a bit disturbing. There is double glazing and it helps a lot. The second thing is the hot water supply played up and needs to be addressed. My shower was working perfectly however when my wife stepped in to the shower, the water was very cold. It seems the hot water had run out meaning that the supply could not meet demand. This was the only real issue we had in our stay otherwise there were no problems that could be addressed easily.
Attractive pub character, welcoming, our was spacious comfortable 'superior room' with a new modern bathroom. An ideal place for exploring the Peak District. We would happily return for another visit.
The meals are beautifully cooked and presented but verging on the 'poncy'. Some unnecessary dribbles and decorations e.g 'mustard snow'. Game specials which we didn't try. Eating from a kilner jar is awkward.
