Comfortable, clean, friendly efficient staff, great chef, great food, great beer. Don't leave without a jar of homemade jam or marmalade .
Excellent food and lovely room - staff very helpful and friendly.
Staff were eager to close the bar by 10 o'clock - it would have been nice to have had a relaxing few drinks after our meal but felt that we had to go to bed.
friendly staff, cosy dining and bar.
food variable, quality usually good but portion size was often very small and poor value for the price.
The staff were lovely. The food was excellent. A lovely country Inn.
Friendly staff and good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
The road being so near and fast traffic just by the door.
Setting The walk suggested by staff Food Staff Ambience
The food was exceptional and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.
Accommodation slightly dated and on a busy road
Food, Location, hospitality, very friendly. 2nd stay here and will definitely return :)
Intermittent hot water in room 5!
Excellent meal in restaurant - very good value and delicious home cooking. Also super breakfast and genial staff.
The general ambience , good location for Peak District excellent food
The nature of the building was that rooms are on the small side and there was very little light. We are now of age we find double beds not be as comfortable as we would like.
Every member of staff we met were friendly and helpful. The food in my opinion was excellent with a good selection. Free car parking across the road from Hotel/Inn. You can buy tickets to Chatsworth House from the bar area which will save you £2 each on entry. It's only a short drive to Chatsworth House. We enjoyed our stay here even though the bed was uncomfortable.
We are use to a soft bed and the bed in our room was uncomfortable.
Friendly staff, good food.
No residents lounge or easy chairs. Much road noise during the night.
Good situation. Very pleasant place to stay
To be a bit picky, traffic noise as it's right on the main road
Friendly staff, spacious room, walks in the Peak outside the door.
Decor now getting a little worn, food is good, but menu could change more often, traffic noise a little wearing at night. Paper napkins!!
Beautiful property - excellent food and drinks - friendly staff
Some road noise
The staff were friendly, welcoming and very obliging. We stayed in two rooms which were not overly large, but were clean, comfortable and, despite the inn being on a busy road, we all enjoyed a decent night's sleep in comfortable beds. The food was excellent, both in the evening and at breakfast the next morning. I wish we could have stayed more than one night in order to explore the beautiful local area a bit more and would like to return again in the future.
Although not a problem for us the inn is on quite a busy road and the car-park is across the other side of it. Those with children or not-so-nimble adults in their party might find this a problem.
Location excellent, staff friendly & food excellent. Best vegetarian dish ever.
Not a lot
Firstly the bed was so uncomfortable, the mattress had seen better days. When I complained I was told no one else had complained!! We had to suggest a solution and it really spoilt our stay. No hint of a refund Breakfast was disappointing. In fact it was underwhelming. The full English had one slice of bacon, one mushroom, one over cooked slice of black pudding, need I continue and the Tea tasted like bleach. We don't drink coffee but had to cos the tea was undrinkable. But it was ok cos no one else complained. So considering the price they charged it was very very disappointing
The room was small and dingy. Needs refurbishing.
Friendly staff, food and service excellant, good local beers.Room clean.
A bit remote if not a backpacker.
The food was amazing! Brilliant staff, efficient and friendly. Great location: we are walkers and could access some great walks from the door. Spacious and comfortable room. Spotlessly clean and well appointed.
The décor in the otherwise lovely bathroom needs some TLC!
Warm friendly staff and the four poster bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is very isolated and there are no regular bus routes or taxis.
Room rather dirty. Need to pay more attention to cleaning.
Convenient location for Eastern Peak District with interesting places to visit, wonderful scenery and pleasant walks. Dinner menus were fantastic and well deserving of the awards but a little pricey! Friendly and helpful staff. Tea/coffee in the room replenished each day.
The room was adequate, perhaps a bit dark and subject to some, but not excessive, traffic noise
