Excellent, Lovely little Country Village pub in a Beautiful Picturesque Village of Charney Bassett. Very welcoming this has to be one of the friendliest places on earth!!! Not only were The management Ian Jackie very welcoming, all the locals in the village were also very friendly and helpful, This is very much a family run establishment, Accommodation of 3 en-suite rooms decorated to a high standard, our room was lovely comfortable. Breakfasts were great, the Food was Great!!!! Highly Recommendable

We chose the Chequers because of the good reviews and also because it was dog friendly. We had a ground floor room with own access which was excellent. Good walks, bridle path and park close by. Very friendly and professional staff and good food.

We were made very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Ideal location for the wedding we attended while staying. Chequers Inn is situated in a beautiful village which is very quiet and peaceful and yet only a short distance from Oxford. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definately go back. Thank you for making us so welome.

Very friendly and helpful staff, especially the landlord. The room was clean, comfortable and there was plenty of choice to suit everyone for breakfast. It was in a quiet and beautiful location,

Charney Basset is a pleasant village with a strong community spirit given the evidence of celebrations that had taken place prior to our arrival to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Chequers Inn is situated opposite a village green and a thatched cottage.

We had searched booking.com for accommodation near Oxford that was suitable for two adults, one child and a jack russell for a 3-day break. In spite of emailing the proprietor and keeping her informed of our estimated time of arrival, the pub was closed and there was noone there to show us to our accommodation when we arrived. We therefore had to drive around the countryside and kill time whilst we waited for the proprietor to return our messages and let us know when we could gain access - not very welcoming after a four hour journey, and a waste of a precious afternoon. Whilst the accommodation was decorated nicely, it was tiny, our tall 11-year-old was given a tiny blow-up bed to sleep on, and there wasn't enough room to swing a cat never mind a dog. The bathroom was so small that my 6' 4 partner couldn't stand upright in the shower. The shower was luke warm and the lever operating the water pressure fell off on day 2. Our room was at the top of some stairs above a noisy kitchen extractor fan and the pub's smoking area, which was far from pleasant. One day our rubbish and used towels were removed from our room. One day they weren't - not nice to come home to after a long day out. Although pretty, the pub was totally devoid of atmosphere. The proprietor described it as 'a restaurant with rooms' rather than a pub, yet there was no evidence of food being cooked in spite of an extensive and rather expensive menu. The proprietor was clearly inexperienced and there was little attempt at customer service.

Bacon and eggs for breakfast are delicious. There's lots of space outside for kids to run around. Host is pleasant.

Coffee at breakfast comes in a cafetiere but in fact it is instant coffee. This is a shame as the rest of the breakfast was nice.
