Batman in the evening helpful on check in
Poor service and attitude in morning, cracked floor tiles in bathroom
Stayed here twice while looking at uni s with my daughter, ticks the nix in terms of location to the city. Rooms comfortable bathrooms need attention no windows. Food very good breakfast enormous
Dining area lacks character Staff not very friendly
Everything was excellent food was superb service was spot on. Lovely place to stay
Wifi was very slow in room
Lovely little village, quite hotel very peaceful, lovely food, clean rooms enjoyed our stay.
Shame that check in not till 4.30 although you can ring to try get in earlier which we didn't know that.
Breakfast was good, not great quality ingredients but very pleasant staff and a certain originality in the way things were organised.
The place doesn't open till 4.30pm, this was not made clear to us when we booked or spoke to the Chequers by phone, but it's a big negative after a long drive to find the place closed and not responding to phone calls. Our bathroom looked very dated, the room didn't really seem up to the price we paid, and we never saw the manager, he appeared to be uninterested in his clients. The woman who greeted us was very sullen and unwelcoming. I would neither return nor recommend The Chequers.
Lovely newly refurbished pub with good food and efficient landlady. Convenient location but not a particularly charming village.
Very small bedroom although comfortable. Miserable bathroom - no shower - absolutely tiny with loo coming away from wall and broken tiles on the floor.
Friendly staff. Service and food good.
Pokey room and very expensive for size and quality. Not helped to find we had been sleeping on a sheet with rubber underneath on a very hot and airless night! Only one small window opened although we did have a fan without which it would have been like the black hole of calcutta. Only one tiny bar of soap and tiny bottle of shampoo for 3 of us. No shower and taps were very loose on bath.
Loo didn't flush!! They gave us free breakfast but had no other rooms available
The food was excellent! I was so glad to be staying two nights to make the most of the food. The staff where friendly and welcoming and chatty.
The room was rather small and the weather was very hot so it was very muggy in the room. But a fan was supplied to help the situation, and everything was really clean, a huge bonus.
Staff very friendly. Room comfortable. Breakfast good
Rooms very comfortable and staff excellent Food excellent
1 room has a bath only- needs a shower
Brilliant, friendly, helpful staff, excellent service :-) Room was fresh and the fan was invaluable in the hot weather. First rate breakfast too. Would definitely recommend.
Breakfast was delicious
Cosy pub with very friendly staff, beautifully located in a little country village just outside Oxford. Recommendable.
rooms very nice, food very good plenty of parking
our room had no shower, we booked a room for the following 2 weeks only to be told late on the Friday evening they had booked is in a double by mistake and all the twins had now been booked so they cancelled our booking, Poor show when the 4 of us where the only customers spending money in the bar all week
Great location, friendly staff, very clean, free parking.
Poor bathroom, no shower, loose fittings. Tiny mugs in rooms.
Meals were good. Bartender was very attentive and helpful
Extremely uncomfortable bed.
The location was right for us
The staff were unmotivated, the premises were not clean and the room was very small
The staff was wonderful - very accommodating and helpful. The room was very cheerful, bright, nicely decorated and a comfortable size. The bed was very comfortable. Amenities included an iron and mini ironing board, hair dryer and the ability to make yourself a hot drink. The village of Cassington is about a 15 - 20 minute drive from Oxford. With a population of 710, it is very pleasant and of course very quiet. Lovely to walk around the town. The food at the pub was quite good. Even the vegetarian dishes were tasty. The wifi in the room was very good: strong signal and consistently a good speed. Breakfast was typical but nothing special: cold cereal, juice, eggs, bacon, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, toast. Be aware that there are no other eating places within a reasonable walking distance. This can be a problem as the pub is not always serving food. In my case, I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and food was not being served until 6:30 that evening. On Sunday, food was not served after 4:00pm. However, the staff offered to prepare a meal for me outside of serving hours, which was very nice of them. Overall, a great place to stay for a casual visit or an alternative to staying in Oxford.
The room had a bathtub but no shower. Separate spouts for hot and cold water, so need to use the supplied pitcher to have a pseudo shower, which can be a challenge. No fresh fruit available for breakfast. Not suitable for business as there is no proper desk or work chair.
The room was clean on arrival safe parking and well off main road
Small room for a family room and only a bath. Staff were inconsistent some good some slow but polite. Seems they didnt have much enthusiasm and no sign of management. Staff levels were low resulting in poor breakfast service and rooms not getting serviced even though we asked if we would like it done. One morning breakfast was much better than the previous even though waitress appeared also to be the cook. Nice enough but priced too high for what we got. Wouldn't go back.
The room, pub and staff were all good.
There was only one member of staff on at breakfast and was completely over run. There was no breakfast menu.
nice comfortable rooms, free parking, good breakfast.
no leaflets about Oxford or the area.
Friendly welcome, good location for our needs. Excellent breakfast.
Located in a lovely village. Nice clean room with amazingly hot water.
Bed had thin mattress which was hard as nails, kitchen closed too early for food on an evening at 9:30 on a Friday. Breakfast was very short staffed (with just one person trying to do everything..everything !! which affected quality, cold coffee etc. handrail on stairs should have a warning, it will hurt your fingers !
Great hotel! One of the best I've ever stayed. Beautiful village, great stuff and great pub downstairs. Breakfast was amazing! Room looks very fine and new.
In the middle of the night our neighbor upstairs started to walking around the room. We heard every move :(
