The Gillygate Pub With Rooms is set in York’s Gillygate and next to the city’s famous Minster Cathedral. This charming, historic property opens onto its own beer garden and features a pub.
Score from 9 reviews Superb
Staff are friendly, this is a proper local hotel with a local feel. Well done on maintaining this in a world of premier inns.
Decorated throughout in the colour of Campbell's mushroom soup, which is a bit flat and dull
Walking distance to the city
Room was very small and very hot Staff were average Parking is not great Felt it was very over priced for what it is
The staff were friendly and helped to recommend places to see. The room was great and a very good size. The hit had bags of charm and location was spot on
Unfortunately our wifi didn't work and our room faced the road. It was quite avwarm night so I would have like to have the window open (as there is no air con) but there was too much traffic. If possible, request a room away from the road!
We had been upgraded on arrival and the room was stunning. Staff lovely very helpful. Short walk to the town centre. Highly recommended.
the room was nice
breakfast should have been inculded for the price paid
Room very small and poor ventilation, overall decor a bit dated, lift not working
Toilet roll holder broken in out bedroom and hole in the carpet
Staff especially the Breakfast Staff and Dinner Staff Lovely breakfasts Large 6ft comfortable bed Gourmet Dinner food Location to town
Small room with no bath Gourmet food needed more side vegetables but these were classed as extras and then you got 40 potatoes or huge bowl of green beans or carrots - a small medley of vegetables should be available not individual extra bowls. Loads of wastage!! More care when someone has Buyagift vouchers as staff don't know that a 3 course gourmet dinner that wine and coffee are included
cleanliness and good quality bed and bedding
road adjacent to hotel although traffic free lots of people walking past. Railway line noise and was a little dissapointed in the distance to the city centre( surely further than 700 metres to the Minster)
The shower in the jenny suite was very poor, and for the size I wouldn't exactly call it a suite
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful ambience within the hotel with the Churchill theme.
Didn't like the fact that you had to pay extra money for the car park per night in addition to the hotel rate that we had already paid.
Nice comfortable beds.Plenty of space for sitting in bedroom.Lovely view of Minster from our room.Staff were all very pleasant.Breakfasts were all of very hich quality.Enjoyed evening meal on the night we ate in hotel.
The rooms are very dark, would have liked more lights.Tap in sink needed to not be fixed, it was difficult for washing face. More shelf space in the bathroom. Coat hooks for hanging coats.Pillows needed to be of better quality.
Bollards to drive into hotel, very small room, lift not working, too expensive - the price of a good four star hotel
Hotel rooms to small. Rooms were to hot.
Expensive meals in restaurant although they were very nice to expensive.
wi-fi didn't work during my last stay in this hotel
Staff were excellent and very well trained in customer service. They went out of their way to ensure we had a nice time.
All the facilities such as wi-fi and lifts were not working. I had some business to finish whilst away with my family and the lack of wi- fi was a problem. Also my husband had to carry countless bags up and down the stairs, lift was broken.
As soon as we walked in we loved it...staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble... our room so perfectly clean and was a good size for a double... when we stay next time will try the four poster double :-)
The only thing to complain about was the fact the wifi didnt work in our room :(
The luxury 4 poster room was well worth the extra money.
My parents stayed at this hotel and said the location was great. That the hotel was of a good standard and that the staff were all friendly.
That the room stated 4 poster bed but wasn't as grand shown in the pictures and looked like someone had just whipped it together out of decking. This was the reason I booked it for them it looked extra special. Due to this it wasn't value for money and seemed expensive. With this being a special occasion for my parents I feel it was a little disappointing.
Staff were pleasant and welcoming and efficient at breakfast. Room was clean. Breakfast was ok. It was well situated to walk comfortably into town and we could leave the car until 12 the next day in car park.
Rooms at side - where we were they were very noisy all the time as they were near the generator. We did not sleep well at all. Lift wasn't working and WiFi was down. We were supplied with the wrong newspaper.
The room was very small and far too hot. Too warm to get a decent nights sleep.
Interior design and appearance of hotel. Restaurant and bar good.
Only 1 towel in room (didn't notice until leaving shower, so we had to use same towel!) Being charged £215 for a 'luxury room' - When booking, we accepted that room prices would be inflated due to York races that weekend, but were disappointed with our so-called 'luxury room' (room 107 named 'Marakesh') which was relatively small and dark, not forgetting the towel issue - wouldn't call it 'value for money'.
Quality of food --staff made you feel at home they were so friendly--and the short walk to the city gate was perfect --overall it was a lovely break and would recommend to everyone
The only down side--was the lift was out of order. I would ask for a room on the ground floor when we return
