Clean, well situated, fun friendly atmosphere, live music followed by dj set.
Everything, the breakfast was first class.
Central for visiting/site seeing the City.
To many stairs (Listed building. What can you expect?). Nice room facilities, but needs proper maintenance management. Stair carpets leading from first floor kitchen area filthy dirty due to the spillage of food? etc....
A very nice hotel, the room was lovely and the staff helpful. Lovely food at breakfast.
whilst we were warned about the noise it would not suit everybody as it is very loud. It did not bother us but would some people. Because it is above a pub at breakfast the next morning it does have a slightly stale smell as they are cleaning up after the night before during breakfast.
Although we were told the noise would be a problem, it was fine during the week. It is only weekends that there is noise and they are clear to advise of that. Breakfast was lovely and the rooms were great. Will be back!
The hotel staff were welcoming and always on hand to help. The in house entertainment was excellent. The whole experience was like staying in a family home.
We had the Suite, which was lovely and well presented. The Location was perfect as it is pretty much Central and all the staff when needed where extremely helpful. Even the music playing in the courtyard until 3am wasn't an issue. We had a great time, and if you are looking for somewhere to have a drink other than the Hotel, check out The Botanist, what a great bar.
Our only gripe was the heat of the room, as you go up the stairs you can just feel it getting hotter and hotter, but it was one of the hottest weekends of the year so can't put it all on the hotel.
Really nice location, very clean rooms, nothing is too much trouble, very friendly staff....excellent mocha ..have stayed here twice already and looking forward to staying again soon, shall be bringing my springer spaniel puppy with me
Bathroom lovely, room quite spacious
No air conditioning, rooms very warm very noisy on Friday and Saturday when we stayed (we were warned but not prepared for the level of noise until 3am )quite expensive too.
Spacious, one good member of staff, the chef!
The room was rediculoisly hot, sweating hot!!! A foreign member of staff put the phone down on me when I rang to ask for directions , he said" you will have to call back, it's busy" and before I could say any more the line went off, mad was an understatement !!!
we found the hotel was in an ideal location a bit noisy but we knew that when we booked breakfast was good, would definitely book again.
Very good location. Friendly staff and lovely room
Hard to find. No parking but this is being really picky
Excellent shower Very comfortable bed Convenient location Friendly staff
Room was very warm, struggled to sleep One of the taps in the bathroom felt very loose One of the dials for the shower came off twice
The fact that they had no milk at breakfast.
very grubby and past it's sell by date
We stayed in the deluxe suite - loved the decor! Bed was comfy but not the longest (fine for me but could be an issue if you're tall) The bathroom was spacious, great shower, claw foot bath and double sink. Would stay here again.
You can hear the music from below at the weekend - we had a few drinks so wasn't an issue but if you want peace and quiet this may not be the place for you. Would highly recommend it if you want a lively vibe and comfortable classy surroundings
The Commercial Hotel – Chester I do not normally give overtly negative review, however in the case of this “hotel” I feel that I need to outline several key issues. First off let’s find the positive point; the room was OK, not in the £99 bracket charged, but good size with a very nice bathroom and walk-in shower.
The issues that made our break in Chester an unforgettably one was first off on checking the website we were aware of the live music on Thursday till Saturday, and therefore opted for a Sunday night stay. However on arrival and after booking in we were informed that there was “live” music till 11pm, as it was a bank holiday weekend that was no problem, however the music went on till just past 2am, and it took another hour for the noise from the bar to finish . At one stage it was so loud that the floor in our room and he windows were vibrating, at this point we got dressed (1am) and went out for a walk. If it was not for the fact our car was locked in the car park I would have gone home. The manager insisted that we had been inform of the change, which was not true, as neither ourselves nor Booking.com ( who I called just before 1am ) had been informed of the change, but he did offer me a round of drinks !!!. We finally got to sleep at 3am. The breakfast service was also very poor; there was only a small selection of cereal left on the bar but no bowls or milk, we were only provided with the options for the cooked breakfast after being seated for over 15 minutes and had to ask for orange juice which did not appear to be an option. It would appear that this “hotel” is more concerned with its bar and music side of the business than its paying guest side. One other point we stopped in the Shelly room , but whatever you do, DO NOT remove the plug on the left-hand side of the socket by the window as this turns off the disco ball in the room below and the manager tell you off!, pity it’s not linked to the sound system as well.
Nice friendly and helpful staff, quite bar to have a drink
was woken up due to noise several times however nothing to do with the hotel but the drunken weirdos outside.
Location was brilliant, room was comfortable, clean and spacious.
We had to give our room key in everytime we left which wasn't an issue except we had to call someone to let us in after our evening out and it was commented on the following day that we were back quite late and would it be the same that night as someone would have to wait up for us?!? As this is a hotel I didn't expect to have a curfew.
Loved the location the room was amazing would definetly go again.
Nothing. It was all perfect.
Lovely room, clean, comfy, close to centre
Poor service, band playing in the court yard until 1am but no one had told us this, expecting a romantic break.
Luxury suite was beautiful, a real treat for our wedding anniversary. Hotel within walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops.
Hotel above a very busy and loud bar, DJ on the floor below playing music until the early hours. We had to ask for the bass to be turned down as the suite was shaking. Felt the price of the room should have taken this into account. Would only recommend if you are staying mid week
Decent quality rooms, central location, free parking at nearby Market Carpark, nice Pub
Really this was a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. Check in at the bar. I had a 7am checkout which was before breakfast and before staff arrived.
