Close to city centre but quiet enough to get some sleep! Friendly staff, nice pub downstairs. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Perfect for nights out when you just need somewhere to get ready and sleep!

Could do with some modernisation, and we had to prop the window open because we were so hot! But for the price you can't really complain!

The location is very convenient and the price is so cheep with ensuit.

The rooms were filthy, couldn't open windows, fire alarms all taped up , tv didn't work.....no customer service

I was delighted that this hotel fulfilled my four major requirements when travelling: 1) It was conveniently located within the city centre. 2) It was conveniently located near public transportation (Deansgate-Castlefield station). 3) The price was reasonable (in this case, extremely reasonable). 4) The rooms included free wi-fi, and the signal was strong. In addition, on this trip, I was particularly concerned about staying in a hotel where the rooms received BBC1. I've stayed in several budget hotels that didn't, and was thrilled to find out that the Commercial Hotel does include BBC1 in their TV package. When I arrived, I was having some trouble with the television signal, and the staff had the problem fixed within minutes. In addition, I'm very sensitive to temperature, and staying in a room with a draught often makes me sick. Although I couldn't find a way of adjusting the temperature in my room, it was always comfortable and never cold. And, the pub was even open late so that when I got back in parched at 2 am, I was able to order a drink! (But, being on the second floor, if there was any noise from the pub, it never bothered me at all.)

The room (particularly the shower) was small, but for me that wasn't really a negative. I found it perfectly comfortable, although I realize others might not. Really the only downside I can think of is that the hallways were a little grotty! And there's no elevator, which might be a problem for some people. But these are mild issues compared to how pleased I was with my stay overall. I'd absolutely book a room with the Commercial Hotel again.

The atmosphere and the decoration, slightly out of date. The warmth inside. The managers. The comfy blanket and pillows;

The smell of the corridors. The fact that the hotel only serves alcohol and no hot drinks and snacks.

Got this room at a cheap rate while attending a match in Manchester. The Room was cold and very uncomfortable. The shower was disgusting with duct tape holding it in place and the shower head itself was dull of dirt and hair. I have stayed in some cheap places during my time backpacking through asia but this place takes the biscuit. Pay the extra 20 quid and get a travellodge. This place just isn't worth the hassle.

Everytime when you close the room door, it slams very loud

Location was very good, room was comfortable for the one night i stayed, does exactly what it says on the tin, would stay here again if on a short visit and the price is excellent. Its obviously rooms above a pub so you get what you pay for really, good communication with owners.

Shower/toilet in room had no door and could do with new carpet. No food available onsite.

Room at top of a pub, toilet/en suite with no door from bed which is basically a toilet and shower with a bit of plywood between. Wifi advertised but can't be accessedunless in bar. Wallpapers and carpets worn and tatty.

very noisy at night,ie,loud voices late,and door slamming, worst was person in next room decided to watch television through the night which was loud enough for me to hear every word and song. (thin walls probably)

Location.

1. Staff smoked in the bar area. 2. Shower was cold; no hot water. 3. Complimentary tea bags were very cheap and tasted out of date. They were not individually sealed. 4. Floorboards were uneven. 5. Headboard was not screwed to the bed, but merely wedged between the bed and the wall. 6. The room was not clean; it had dust between the beds and the wall, and your feet stuck to the bathroom mat. 7. Single pane windows let out all the heat so the room was uncomfortably cold. 8. We were unexpectedly woken in the early hours of the morning by very noisy guests, who were totally disrespectful and heavily drunk. No attempt was made by Management to quiet the situation. 9. Crisps purchased from the bar were out of date. 10. Paid £75.00 for a room; we can stay in a luxury hotel for this price and would not consider staying at The Commercial Hotel again. 11. Towels had dirty stains on them and some were even ripped and had holes in!

Discusting ,Dirty ,Badly maintained , cigarette ash in the bin , windows nailed shut , stains on the bedding , bathroom unusable ( looked like hadn't be cleaned for months ) smoke alarms taped up , emergency exit signs covered up , people smoking in the hotel , furniture belonged at the tip !

Hotel was very outdated, duct-taped up alarm buttons,bathroom door didn't shut properly, cracks in wall, all furniture was approx 20 years old (including beds!) quilt cover didn't fit on the quilt so had some quilt sticking out, pillows were lumpy, small holes in sheet, extension lead at side of bed, tv had no remote to turn it on, cracked window which looked like it wouldn't open - spoilt our night away!
