Coquetvale HotelStation Road, NE65 7QN Rothbury (Show map) Excellent, Score from 141 reviews“It was a lovely relaxing place and the staff more than helpful, from outside the hotel is very inviting, especially with the smells from their italian restaurant. Breakfast was lovely, just enough and cooked to perfection, all local produce aswell.”

Richmond
19th century country town hotel perfectly located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park in the beautiful tranquil village of Rothbury, just 11 miles from Alnwick. Coquetvale Hotel is an ideal base for walking, biking or outdoor pursuits, or simply just a nice relaxing break for the weekend. The hotel boasts a very popular Italian restaurant that is frequented by visitors and locals alike. Because of its popularity, it is strongly advisable for guests to reserve a table, particularly during busy holiday periods and on weekends. The bedrooms are all spacious rooms with private bathrooms, TV and hospitality trays. The superior rooms are larger, with lovely views of the center of Rothbury and the surrounding countryside, and boast spa baths and separate showers. Hotel Rooms: 10

We used the hotel as a half way stop on our journey up to Scotland. We arrived quite late & had missed last orders for food, but a very pleasant & helpful reception member offered us a room service choice, we had pizza which was the best pizza ever! We had a loft room which was beautiful & felt like a very romantic little hide away with a fantastic view, the mini bar was well stocked & very fair prices.Breakfast was delicious. It was a perfect start to our holiday & we would love to return for a weekend & explore the area more. I am not usually a huge fan of hotel stays, but this one is first class & I would highly recommend it.

Stylish comfortable room. Superb breakfasts served by smart and friendly staff. Excellent, stylish Italian-style restaurant/bar with great menu choice.(the 'early bird' serving from 5 - 6.30 pm meant one could have a very reasonably priced full meal) The look of the front of the hotel from the car park and the stair carpet up to the rest of the hotel did not present the hotel in its best light. Once inside it was wonderful!

We found the Coquetvale by chance. We were looking for a base to visit the Nothumberland National Park and nearby coast. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean, our room was spacious and well apportioned. The bed was huge and comfortable. My wife was particularly impressed with the clean, crisp white sheets. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and could not be faulted in anyway. A good team spirit could be felt. The Italia plus restaurant was also a great find. We ate there for the three nights of our stay when it was open. The food was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It is the best dining in Rothbury by a Northumbrian country mile. Both the hotel and the restaurant are well worth a visit and I feel very happy to recommend them.

Delightfully clean attractive hotel which, at the time of our stay, was undergoing some refurbishment. The new loft rooms are extremely comfortable in this lovely building. We experienced personal service from the accommodating and obliging owner; definitely 10 out of 10 for the friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff. We enjoyed superb food served in the very pleasant restaurant with extensive choice and efficient service. Many reasons to return!

The location of rothbury is idyllic. The restaurant is fantastic serving first class food in a beautiful setting. If you want a fine dining experience then you won't be disappointed. The room we stayed in was luxurious and one of the best I have ever stayed in. How the coquetvale is only a three star establishment is beyond me.

The location is good and it has the only restaurant in Rothbury. The rooms are spacious and the building is of interest. The entrance to the hotel part is a bit cramped and if the restaurant is closed (as it was unfortunately for us!) there is no where to have a drink or sit and relax.

Age and character of the hotel and it's location in the village of Rothbury. The Italian restaurant gives the hotel a focus of good quality food, and of course provides support for the hotel side of the business. Overall a good mix, properly managed. Parking is adequate, but could be a problem for travellers arriving late - given the restaurant business.

The staff were extremely friendly and the hotel was pleasently warm. Size of Bedroom was very good with comfortable sofa. Breakfast was tasty but slightly sparse. Pretty village, even in the winter. The restaurant and bar were both closed - it was a Monday but we were not informed before we arrived. We then had to treck out into Rothbury to find somewhere to eat. The twin beds were tired and therefore uncomfortable and in the bathroom the shower was good looking but nothing more than a dribble could be extracted. In contrast the air bath was very good.

This is a lovely old Victortian Staton Hotel in a beautiful part of the country. In the process of being renovated as they go along. Huge rooms, pleasently furnished and very comfortable. Restaurant was good and we had some of the best lamb I have ever eaten. Breakfast was also good. Obvious that they have a small team of dedicated staff, atmosphere more like a family B&B than chain hotel. Loved it.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Everyone was very welcoming. The room was huge and toasty warm. The bathroom with jacuzzi bath was also enormous and well appointed. The meal in the 'Italien' attached to the hotel was amazing!

All staff were efficient and their friendliness was sincere. The hotel is a work in progress, but the the decor, spaciousness is pleasing and interesting. I think we were unfortunate that the room we had, had a slight smell - not bad - but there on first entering.

The hotel provided a very friendly environment. The staff were first class and the restaurant Italia + offered food of the highest standard. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only "fault" that we could find was that there was very limited sitting to be had in order to have a drink before dinner or indeed to relax afterwards.

Very nice Hotel, will definetly stay there again as it is close to relatives and also handy for getting into Newcastle to do some shopping. The food was excellent and the room was clean . The staff lovely. The only thing that was a problem is no lift so my 82 year old mum found it hard climing stairs.

Warm welcome in very cosy hotel room. Excellent breakfast and general facilities Not wishing to be too nit-picking but, personally I found the shower enclosure in our room converted from the roof space rather neat with very little space to enter and to manoeuvre within. A grab-rail would also have been useful. There was also no heating in the large shower room which contrasted from the cosiness of the bedroom.
