A wonderful stay great staff great breakfast all in a nice peaceful location
Very friendly staff and very good food. Very helpful despite very late notice booking. Clean room and good selection of tea and coffee in the room. Character inn. Dinner was very good and all in all very good value. Breakfast was excellent.
The Full English breakfast was very big and I felt a bit guilty leaving a lot of it!
Lovely characterful building in a great part of Devon.
During our stay there was a shortage of staff especially on the Saturday night. One lady working her socks off doing everything and a bloke who sadly didn't have a clue. I think he may have been an emergency stand in. I also have an issue with breakfast not starting until 9am even on Saturday - too much day gone before you can start.
Only met one member of staff who was very friendly & helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. I did have cereal, toast & cold drink left out for breakfast as I had to be out of the Inn by 8.30 am.
I would have to warn anyone I recommended the Inn to that breakfast was not served until 9 o'clock and mobile service was not great.
The food was excellent
Mirror too far from socket to use the hair drier and mirror at the same time in Exe
Charming historic building, thatched roof, stained glass windows. Quiet at night and nice countryside to wake up in.
My booking was downgraded from a family room to a single, only informed when being shown to room. Had travelled out of way to get a good room after long day working & travelling. Had I known in advance would definitely have stayed elsewhere, tried to phone in advance 3 times to check something, no answer. Breakfast only served from 9am, was given a sandwich in a bag instead. 20 digit wifi password, then no connection. Well meaning but generally sloppy service. E.g: on arrival waiting at bar to check in wait for another customer to served, then wait for staff to join in a conversation with customers before acknowledging me. Unasked for very defensive borderline confrontational explanation from another staff member over confusion with booking and room downgrade. Evening meal was dreadful, waited 30 mins to be served a crunchy veg lasagne that had been reheated a few times too many, shocked to find this place advertising as a foodie pub. Half used shower gel container left in shower from previous guest.
Food. Service at restaurant.
Check in late at 6.00 pm.
waiting staff was good
food was terrible , atmosphere was terrible , landlady was rude . outside of pub needed care and attention
I loved the peace and tranquility of the location and brilliant food.
Beautiful old inn
Roads to Cridford very narrow and poorly maintained. Stayed for dinner we had plaice stuffed with crab, one side of fish ok the bottom half raw. Breakfast the next day,We all had to wait (2 people for 10mins)until all guests seated before we were offered tea or coffee poached eggs rock hard and tasting of vinegar (four people had this all the same) Fried eggs great but bacon uncooked. It would appear Chef/ owner working at Pheonix hotel so goodness knows who was trying to cook, certainly not who has built the reputation up.
It was a quiet time so we only met Mel who was very friendly and helpful. The Inn was very quaint and very old but we didn't come across any of the 'Ghosts' that were mentioned…. The breakfast was delicious, especially Mel's porridge, made just the way I like it… A very good stay…
The Road up to the inn, about a mile long, was very narrow with too few passing places. Hedges could have done with a trim. It didn't spoil it for us though…
Fantastic cosy room, lovely location, friendly and welcoming staff
Old fashioned charm and peaceful surroundings.
The environment - a pretty village situated near several good visitor attractions -
Access slightly difficult - food OK but not exceptional - the hot water supply was tepid - the manageress was extremely rude and aggressive to her staff in front of guests - this was totally unacceptable to us
The Inn is charming, an authenic English country inn. The staff were delightful. Each room is different and ours (Otter) wasn't quite as roomy and airy as our friends in Ex. The food in the pub is very good. The WiFi worked fine and the village small and rural.
Our room (Otter) had a tiny window on the floor. Other rooms had regular sized windows and the Ex had a bathroom with a window.
Excellent stay, will definitely be returning. Staff friendly, food excellent. I felt very safe too being a woman on my own.
The location is excellent but be aware that it is down very narrow lanes. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them The restaurant was good having a varied menu, food portions were large. Restaurant staff were efficient.
We were there when the weather was humid, we asked for a fan for our room but none were available.
Beautiful old inn with amazing stained glass windows. Delicious breakfast. Comfortable room.
If check out is at 10am then it would be helpful if they started serving breakfast before 9am. We felt a bit rushed to leave.
Excellent food, the chef Chris was very accommodating and pleasant to talk to. All staff extremely friendly and efficient. Atmosphere in bar, very friendly, Mel especially very helpful.
Shower room a little small, but overall a clean pleasant bedroom. Location a little off the beaten track, but did not spoil our stay.
The looks of the house and its ambience
Made to feel very welcome - we had our little dog with us - which we thought may be a hassle but they made us all feel very welcome. Especially the breakfast staff - allowing us to sit in another room with the dog and reserving us a special area the next day. Evening food was great - we could eat this in the bar with the dog but we chose to eat it outside on the picnic benches. Otter room was great for the dog - he enjoyed looking out the floor level stained glass window. We would definitely stay here again! Plus they have my favourite cider - Koppaberg!
Lovely location, very accomodating - great meals available in the evening too. Easy commute into Exeter for work, but equally well placed for exploring in the evenings. No mobile signal thankfully :-D
Absolutely fantastic cooked breakfast - will stay here for another cooked breakfast alone. quality meat, lovely presentation and great taste.
Wifi in room didn't work.
Lovely area Inn looks lovely from outside
Interior was cheap and tired Cobwebs and dust around side-table Mediocre and very greasy breakfast Gloomy room with bulbs not working and a dirty tissue left behind the door
