Good location for exploring lakes, situated in a quiet village. Landlady was friendly and took time to chat. Quality of food was ok, pub food.
Pillows were flat and mattress was poor quality, could feel coils. Lacked atmosphere. Not worth the money. At breakfast we were sat at back of restaurant away from other residents despite unoccupied tables. Maybe "something we said". Bizarre. Same happened at evening meal however didn't feel so isolated as other diners arrived.
We found the staff helpful and very friendly. The food was of a high standard and we would definitely stay again.
Good evening meals with friendly staff.
Room needed attention
The restaurant was excellent
Hotel & bedroom facilities for price charged (£130.00 per night) were poor - no bottled water in room , no bathrobes, no tissues, no telephone when everybody knew there was no mobile signal, check in time not as stated on confirmation
The food was excellent, rooms were clean an well set out.
Signal connection was poor but to be expected, there was a band on below us stopping us sleeping however they did finish for 11.30 we just had to be up at silly am for the Great North Swim. No complaints
Dinner was good. Liked combination of "pub" and "restaurant". Crawford is a good chef.
Lack of mirror in bedroom 7. Lack of Black pudding in breakfast, especially when Black Pudding is on dinner menu as a starter.
Staff really friendly and helpful, this is a little gem of a hotel in the lake district
Nice location, quaint pub, staff friendly.
Given incorrect dinner menu. No choice of egg at breakfast. Layout of room eg. nearest power socket to mirror meant hair dryer didn't reach. 2 ceiling lights in bathroom out. Kept banging feet and knees on large wooden bedposts.
Location, friendliness of staff, nice room and quality and value for money of food and wine.
The peacefulness away from the typical tourist residences. It wasn't too far to drive to Windermere or Hawkshead and we enjoyed our dinner and drinks in the evening at the inn.
You definitely had to drive to get to the lakes as local transport was limited. The village is very small, so expect to drive if you wanted to eat or do some form of shopping. Our shower head wasn't working very well with low volume of constant hot water.
In quiet village just off main road within few miles of Lake Windermere, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Rly and many other attractions. Excellent evening meal washed down with a nice pint. Good breakfast. Road parking easily available without affecting local residents.
Thoroughly recommended but breakfast could be enhanced by sauce sachets (save asking staff for them) and small preserve jars.
Just stayed a couple of nights at relatively short notice. No problems at all, very friendly and food very good. Will return at some point.
We got to the restaurant at 7.30pm ordered our food and the starter arrived but we waited till after 9pm for our main course, we did complain to the waitress but she said there was a new chef on that night, as this was our 1st wedding anniversary, we were disapointed to wait so long for our food, the food was lovely when it eventually came, just a pity as everything else in the hotel was great.
The staff were lovely and the food is very good.
My original choice was fully booked and they were charging stupid money for the privilege as well. The Crown came up as an alternative and after reading the reviews we took a gamble....And the gamble paid off! Lovely traditional inn but with modern rooms, peaceful location but within an easy drive of Windermere, Ambleside etc and generally just a relaxed, unpretentious, nice place to be. Even though we were late arriving Crawford (Fellow biker!) the owner fit us in that evening for a top notch meal with free, yes free, amuse bouche before the starter and a free pre-main course....Both excellent and added to the dining experience. We were then told a blue grass band was playing who were excellent and although the place was busy and it was a Saturday night the atmosphere was still relaxed and everybody was having a good time. The pub allows well behaved dogs which as a dog lover was a nice touch also. Finally the staff and front of house were excellent and couldn't do enough. So if you want a place to stay which just feels like an extension of your home but in beautiful surroundings then you can't go wrong with this place.
Cosy, clean rooms. Modern bathrooms. Wonderful food in the evening served with a smile, and great full English breakfast in the morning. Loved the open fires and the background music in the pub was perfect!
Leaving! We wished we could have stayed longer to be able to explore the surroundings and have another evening in the pub.
Proximity to where we wanted to be, staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgable on the building history.
Damp room, poor maintenance of accommodation, very rude landlord who is less business like than anyone I have ever met.
Pub and restaurant were good with good service, good dinner and good beer. The atmosphere was friendly and informal.
There is inadequate focus on residential guests. Although the accommodation has been modernised, our room was not well maintained and had inadequate storage. We were there for New Year and enjoyed the celebrations until 1.30 a.m. but did not appreciate them continuing until after 3.00 a.m, as our room was immediately above the bar we were kept awake by the noise. Breakfast was very poor in both service and choice.
Very good meal on New Year's Eve with pleasant entertainment
Poor room, no wardrobe, toilet flush faulty, breakfast was cold, menu was poor and bore no relation to the menu on line, no steaks, no salmon, no venison, no brown toast for breakfast
Friendly owners, really accomadating amazing value!
Nothing at all!
Staff were great and very child friendly - we had a young baby with us. Food was excellent. Great stay, thank you :)
Wonderful food, lovely and attentive staff. Rooms were beautiful, and very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.
staff were friendly and welcoming once we found them! Beer was good.
pub was not open when we arrived about 3pm. all in darkness and stale smell of chip fat.No one appeared for some time to show us our room. Room was OK but some areas of the pub a bit scruffy, our bedroom door lock was temperamental as was the flushing of the toilet. The B n B was expensive as was the food for what it was - have stayed in superior places for less. Masons Arms nearby much better value for money but they were fully booked! Don't approve of dogs in an eating establishment, the two do not mix.
