We were having a sad family gathering after a death and we all felt at home at once and comforted by the kindness of the staff and the pleasant surroundings. The two dogs present also settled down very happily and easily! Altogether we got just what we wanted.
Friendly welcome, staff couldn't do enough for us. Comfy rooms, wonderful food and great service. A great centre for seeing the area.
A bit overpriced
The rooms have been recently improved and are very comfortable. The breakfast quality is excellent. Clearly a hotel on the way up in an excellent location!
On the expensive side for what it was. Evening food was rather overpriced.
service.. friendliness ..quality of food bathrooms . bedrooms .. public areas value for money
there's nothing here not to like
nothing too much trouble, dogs welcome clean & tidy breakfast great
slight negative and only slight no light in the porch struggled to get key in the lock, but really only a tiny problem
The rooms were very nice with complimentary tea/hot chocolate and luxury toiletries.
The staff didn't warn us about the menu in their restaurant. They told us we had a choice between the pub and the restaurant, simply saying that the latter was more quiet. When we arrived there was only one choice of 2 courses for £28 per person! An extortionate amount for a 3 star hotel! We thought at least the quality of the food would make up for it, however the pork belly was not tender, didn't melt in the mouth, the cracklings were like stone, and the taste of the meat was quite unpleasant while the tomato soup was too acidic. On the day we left, we heard the staff catch out some newly arrived guests in the same fashion. This is completely unacceptable and not fair to do this to people. They should at least offer a sample menu to look at in advance.
everything ....sorry if I drank the guy at the bar's Tetleys ...but left him some
nothing to not like
staff and management went overboard to help and make our stay perfect -- we will be returning to stay again soon
Good food with some excellent choices on the specials board Friendly and very helpful staff. Pleasant ambience - relaxed and comfortable. We enjoyed the informality of the bar - mixing with the locals. Pretty water garden tucked away - lovely for afternoon tea. Generous complimentaries. Perfect location.
Sausages slightly under done at breakfast.
Excellent standard of food
Water pressure in the shower
Warm, friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable room. Good food. Ideal base to walk/explore Exmoor.
location staff very friendly dog friendly a good place to engage with local people
Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Our 4 night stay was extremely comfortable and relaxing. The food was really superb.
Having to leave.
Lovely big bed and big bedroom. Really good plumbing in the bedroom - free flowing hot water from shower and taps. Band on Friday night was good fun.
The music DVD played over dinner was a bit repetitive - could have done with being changed after one playing and not being repeated the next night.
Friendly staff. Excellent food and a well furnished comfortable room. Ask for number 8
Couldn't fault the meals, very friendly staff, quiet comfortable room and staff went out of their way to provide some of the guests who were competing in the 70.3 on Exmoor with breakfast at 4am as had to be at the lake by 5.30.
Starting to look a bit tired in places, with peeling paper. Bar propped up by a very loud man on both nights of our stay so retired to our rooms.
Friendly staff, lovely building, nice breakfast, comfy bed
Shower wasn't great
Staff very friendly and accomadating.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Friendly, helpful, great location, great food - coped well with specific dietary needs, lovely room.
Hot water off during the day so couldn't shower after long bike ride.
Beautiful gracious bedrooms and 'olde english' decor - just like a step back in time to when things were always wholesome, stable and just good. The quality of food was incredible and the staff were so pleasant and just so nice!
Great location and our 5th visit over 3 years to this hotel for a Spring break
