Friendly staff, comfortable and great value for money.
The location as it is in the city centre
The bathroom cleanliness was very poor
Old hotel in need of a revamp
Only problem bathroom door didn't close.
Friendly staff and great location
Nothing to dislike
easy access, polite staff and reasonably priced food. room ok
Chef looked grubby, especially his clothes, shower not brilliant
Based on the dislikes, I have no attention to the likes so I say none.
First time I stayed it was freezing, the mirror was broken and just hooked back on in a disguised way to make it look like it's fine. The taps make crazy loud noises in room (my 1st room) then the cleaners went and left my door unlocked/open while I had to attend a bussiness meeting. I strictly asked the lady at reception the day before if it would be okay to leave important document inside my room and she said it would be fine and that the cleaners are in and out to do there job. When I came home late, I say about 11pm not sure but I left early in the morning so that's a good few hours for anything to have gone wrong, especially considering the main buildings lock is never actually locked. I don't know how things work in stafford, but being from London this made me feel very in comfortable. Second visit. First day! I strictly asked the lady down stairs to please leave a note for the cleaners to leave out my room for today and yes, I indeed check for the do not disturb sign and that's the reason I had to get changed and go all the way to reception to ask them to leave a note since I had no 'do not disturb sign' it's is kind of obvious that when its that cold outside, it will somehow creep in and it was little freezing personally as I am some one who stays warm. It appears they let us rely on our body heat to stay heated. Next problem was I had to stay up all night doing computing work and I didn't get to sleep till really really late, so late I had to cancel my meeting at 12 because I knew I just wasn't fit enough to make it with the lack of sleep the past couple of days. I do suffer from insomnia and have done for years. Got doctors prescriptions to prove it, and what do it hear, the cleaners ragingly trying to open my door early in the morning.
Friendly staff helped create a nice warm atmosphere on a couple of chilly nights in December. For the price we paid we couldn't fault it.
Nice generous room. Good facilities for the price. Good helpful staff. The original oak-lined rooms of the hotel building were appealing. Nice breakfast! I would book again if on that route.
In terms of the annex of bedrooms: it could do with a lick of paint and a refresh generally. Needs re-carpeting in the corridors and some rooms. Dark colours need lightening. Looks like it has not been touched since the seventies!
a very friendly comfortable hotel situated in an ideal location in the middle of the town
Location in the centre of town, hotel looked very nice from the outside but we were in the Lodge which was a bit of a disappointment.
Room was a bit musty and not very clean round window frame (bit mouldy and damp). Bed a bit on the lumpy side. Coffee and towels were not replenished .
A very comfortable atmosphere from the moment I entered the building. All the staff I encountered made a genuine effort to ensure we had a comfortable stay. I had the impression that nothing could be too much trouble. I will look forward to my next visit there.
Only staying for the one night and not spending more time in the hotel.
ahotel room was very dirty, towels was smelly thanks i got my own with me, also shower room was very dirty. all room smell of cigarettes smoke coming from corridor. would never stay there again
Clean and worm :). Functional , good value for the price.
The location in Stone itself.
Dirty nets hanging up the window. Black mould in the shower. Dirty and very wet windows. Musty smell in the room. Bedding pillow case had hole in it. Did not think it was worth £40.00 for one night.
Good friendly staff, hotel is in the center of town so easy walk to local restaurants, bar etc
Room was cold when I arrived, bedroom carpet was not well vacuumed and bath was not very clean. The noise from the pump of the shower is very loud particularly in early morning
Henry Holland (Carlton House architect) also designed this little 1667 gem of a coaching inn. From oak pannelling, gorgeous staircase, a ghost or two, large rooms, charm, friendly staff with a touch of Faulty Towers. Main street position, great Thai restaurant a few doors down and Dunoon china factory shop a few doors up, there is lots to enjoy. Free parking.
We would have liked to spend more time in the hotel, sadly the bar had only one type of scotch whiskey. Sacrilage. We later found a thatched pub on the next corner. Wifi is only received around reception. Be prepared to camp out. This place is being slowly restored, so bare with them. Don't expect perfection, they aren't there yet. Go for the unique experience and the joy of staying in a period property.
Overall service, easy parking, close to town centre, quiet at night.
Musty smell suggests rooms had not been used much. Needs redecorating, in the annexe I stayed in, if they are to maintain and then improve quality.
price, room & hotel were fine,
went down for breakfast at 7am (advertised start time) not started, waited over 30 mins without being offered a drink whilst they went to shop for breakfast ingredients, finally got a very cold and poorly cooked inedible breakfast at 7.40, had to leave without breakfast,
Central location so very convenient
The shower and shower curtains were mouldy
The only part of the stay which I did like was the location.
Room very grubby. Kettle was a health and safety hazard as does not boil and also does not switch off resulting in reheating all the time. Kettle was also grubby. Room not cleaned out every day and not even surfaces wiped. 7 days stay only cleaned room once, after I complained
Door to bathroom wouldn't close(Door needed to be sanded as it didn't fit the frame. shower head holder broken. Waiting for 30 mins to be attended to at reception.
Clean comfortable room in an interesting old coaching inn in the centre of Stone. Plenty of on-site parking, pleasant staff and a very good cooked breakfast.
