Food was good, well presented and good use of local products. Restaurant staff were helpful, pleasant and efficient
The room was cold and we needed to use a supplemental electric heater. The bathroom was extremely cold especially the tiled floor. Heavy mildew on the window frames and grubby paintwork.
FRIENDLY STAFF VERY GOOD WELCOME GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY IF BOOKING ON A MONEY OFF DEAL
Mould in the bathroom Dirty extractor fan Very cold room on arrival and when entering room after trip out.(heating had not been switched on. Staff need to show the same passion on their accommodation as they do on their food and restaurant.
Evening food was delicious and the location is fantastic. Personal touch with candles for my partners birthday in the dessert.
I have been to the Culbone twice before and have enjoyed a lovely stay, however this trip had quite a few issues. Firstly there was a problem with the booking, I booked months in advance and was told a week prior to going that we were unable to stay Sunday night as originally booked. Every effort was made to find other accommodation for us for this one night however the additional fee for the other accommodation was not covered by the Culbone. As it was their error and the difference was only £5 I feel this surplus should have been absorbed by the Culbone. We also booked a double room, however on arrival was shown to a room with 2 single beds pushed together with separate mattresses. I asked if there were any doubles available and was told there were 2, we were then given a double room with no fuss, however I wondered why this was not offered in the first place. The reason I suspect was the noise from the kitchen below, it was very noisy when the extractor fan was on in the kitchen and this continued quite late on in the night and again early in the morning. Breakfast was another disappointment. Usually outstanding, but this time lacked a bit of care. The toast was burnt on both mornings, so too was the bacon and the poached eggs were more like hard boiled- I assumed they had been cooked in advance and heated up. The next morning I therefore opted for scrambled egg and was disappointed again to find a browned omelette. The food is usually brilliant and in the evening was exceptional, however the morning was definitely not of the same standard. Overall a disappointing stay as we have had many a lovely trip here in the past. Unfortunately we actually much preferred the alternate accommodation booked by the Culbone on our behalf for our last night's stay.
Dogs were welcomed in all parts of the hotel including the restaurant. Staff were extremely helpful, bed was very comfortable,
Corridor from bar through to toilets and entrance to room, were a bit scruffy, just need a lick of paint!
This is the 2nd time we have been and loved it just as much as the first. If you're looking for a reasonably priced night away in beautiful Exmoor this is the place!
Food- amazing Room number 1 - stunning views with French doors opening out to patio. Very romantic and cosy! Breakfast-fit for a King! Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful
The setting is marvelous with great views from the back of the hotel. We enjoyed a large well appointed room with access to a private terrace. Weather made the terrace redundant, but that's life!! Restaurant food was well prepared.
WiFi not strong and had to take computer to the restaurant. Some of the fixtures and fittings seem a little tired and some of the bulbs in the room were dead. However, we would not hesitate in booking a room again when in the locality.
My husband and I stayed Monday to Friday at the end of September. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, food fabulous, so ate there all week and the location was beautiful. We will be back!
65.00 per room per night and we could take our dogs. The room was clean, Tidy and comfortable. The food was good and we were really made welcome. Excellent value for money.
Location, was perfect. Beautiful views.
Arrived and was only allowed to use the wifi in the bar, couldn't in the room. Never told us what time breakfast was in the morning, felt awkward asking the questions that they was suppose to say
Views, delicious breakfasts, friendly staff, allowed us to store our bicycles with theirs, nice walk from front door down to a small river.
We wanted to go for an early morning cycle ride but the front door was locked and we couldn't get out.
spacious room on-site parking good food
dogs allowed both in restaurant area and in bedrooms
All the food was very good, and some was outstanding - in particular the breakfasts and the seafood. Sensible wine list. Clean comfortable room, friendly staff and beautiful location.
My scores bear in mind that this is a "restaurant with rooms" rather than a city centre hotel, so you wouldn't expect extensive facilities. Perhaps a chair and a better reading light in the bedroom would be useful for guests who weren't as lucky as we were with the weather.
A lovely warm welcome. Food very well prepared local produce. Such a shame the mussels were not available the night we stayed.
The room we were in was ok and the bed was comfortable but, in my opinion, it really needed to be given a make-over. The en suite especially was rather shabby with loose Lino and a shower tray that flooded onto the floor.
Friendly service and food
Poor mobile signal
Dogs welcome Clean Great food Comfy bed Glorious location
Staff are all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Being able to dine in the restaurant in the evening, enjoy a drink and not have to drive it just great. Restaurant food is excellent. Breakfast is also lovely.
The staff were very hospitable and helpful. The room was spacious and clean.
Although the breakfast produce was good, the actual breakfast served was cold. The breakfast was cooked to order so was disappointed that it was cold when delivered to our table.
The warm welcome, excellent wine and food, great room with spacious bathroom and private terrace and entrance, the relaxed and loting attitude towards our dog. We are sure to go back and recommend it to everyone.
Nothing, it was one of the best during our trip with only 4 and 5 star hotels
gorgeous views great location friendly staff enjoyed our breakfast most comfortable bed
small basin in en suite seemed to make mess even when brushing teeth
Location, Food,Surroundings and The Voucher Offer.
The Address was a bit misleading (Porlock ) Was not advised of the (Hill) to reach The Colbone.
Staff very friendly and food excellent. Gorgeous views from our bedroom and outside terrace of the moors. Very dog friendly too.
The location is excellent. The quality of the rooms is generally good... There were a few stains on the bed and around the room which could do with a lick of paint but overall was very nice and comfortable. The staff were great! Very accommodating and helpful. The views and location are fantastic! A reason alone to come again...
Bedrooms could do with a spruce up although the bathrooms were of high quality.
staff were welcoming and attentive. situation was stunning
one side of double shower not working - decor was a little tired - food was disappointing - greasy and in no way lived up to internet hype!
