big hotel room with plenty of tea and coffee, very comfortable facilities, prices fair, staff friendly, breakfast lovely, plenty of choice and very attentive staff room was about to be upgraded/refurb so not in the best condition (wardrobe falling apart, draws broken, skirting falling off wall, ceiling damp and flaking,) when arrived was spoken down to, felt I wasn't as important because I booked over the internet, this was the only time the staff were unpleasant though! Car parking was confusing and should be made clearer. It was free wifi but no one could tell me password to use it!

We were very impressed with the cleanliness of our room and bathroom. We attended a private function in the evening and the staff were very good. Grubby mat in the lift. Not a friendly welcome at reception. Scaffolding outside our room within the building. Staff at breakfast not welcoming.

The atmosphere and charm of the hotel were delightful. Staff were efficient, polite and helpful. Rooms were quaint. The room we were shown on the internet booking site was nothing like the room we were given.

Hotel a little tired but it is an old hotel and its what we expected ,bed was really comfortable, breakfast included in price which was excellent, staff were really friendly, view was great. We have never heard such creaky floorboards!...Everywhere!,but this is not a dislike really just an observation.we got used to it.

The hotel is situated in a good location along the seafront with easy access to bars and restaurants. We had a nice view out of the window and the staff were friendly. Good cooked breakfast provided in the morning. The hotel is in need of renovation and the room could have been cleaner.

Location was excellent with a sea view. The hotel was old, tired and in need of repair and TLC. Our room was on the second floor where the corridors ceiling had comedown and smelt of damp. The room was in need of redecoration and the sash windows would not open due to rot, once we managed to open one it remained open as we were not able to shut it. The en suit bathroom was tiny and the door didn't open fully as it hit the sink behind it, when sitting on the toilet your knees were against the bath and breakfast was not the best either...... apart from that it was ok.

Fantastic location, friendly staff, rooms were really clean, beautiful building. We really enjoyed our stay and everything was very comfy and clean!!! Being able to just pop across the road and take in the sea, the pier, the bandstand and the view before breakfast was really lovely. My parents live in Eastbourne but i have never stayed on the seafront before. All the activity on the prom in the mornings, people jogging, walking, all ages, all ready for a 'good morning' and maybe a brief conversation was such a wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable start to the day - whatever the weather! Many thanks Cumberland for a great weekend. There was very little space in the bathroom to put things - we were only there for a few days but had our stay been longer I think that would have been a problem. The towels are a bit small! the shower itself needed some attention (room 201). The tv options are very limited. I know it's a big ask but wifi in the rooms would be perfect! Maybe you could just be a bit more informative about the areas in the hotel where there is a hot spot. It was ever so hot in the dining room at breakfast!

A beautiful old hotel although needs some work but aware work in progress. Stunning views. All staff had contact with were so friendly and had a sense of humour and all work very hard. Bathroom door did not fully open due to sink behind it. I scraped my arm on the latch of the door as I was coming out of bathroom due to door not fully opening.

It was very convenient for the seafront. The room was very comfortable and clean. Although very regal from the outside the interior was very shabby and dated. The staff had a slap happy attitude to their customers. The lift definitely needs attention wife found lift scary, like in a block of flats.

The Hotel is located right on the promenade, almost opposite the bandstand. There is a bus stop on both sides of the road right outside the Hotel. Our hotel sea view room on the 4th Floor where to see the sea you have to stand on tip toe, was in need of a total refurbishment, creaky floorboards are an annoyance. The tv had only 5 stations and constantly changed from flickery colour to black & white. There is only one small lift for a Hotel this size. The staff could benefit from some customer service training. Paying the bill was a problem at the Hotel, my full payment was withdrawn from my bank half way through the week, not on arrival. I had to ask for a receipt upon departure at the end of our stay.

The view from the room was excellent. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. The matress was like a piece of wood. The bathroom was ok apart from the shower which didn't have much power and was at an awkward angle. You had to hold the shower head all the time you was using it.
