The restaurant, the food, the welcome for us including our little dog, the tolerance of our celebratory singing, and the warmth of the owners.
28 April 2015
Breakfast OK, Sausage not great, but for the price, value for money
The owners were exceptional, very warm, friendly and helpful

* Very very old fashioned * Bad DIY to try and improve the look of bedrooms. Draughty, smelly rooms * Menu from the 70's along with the decor of communal areas * Overpriced food and drink.....£1.50 for a CAN of coke?????
Lady who checked me in was pleasant enough.

Cold. No free WIFI in room. Cold breakfast very basic (no yoghurt or fruit, only cereals in boxes and milk in jug)
Friendly, bar was OK

I was the only resident in the hotel for 4 nights but it's really really expensive! £50 night ! Same accommodation and facilities in other cities' hotel are cheaper. I would like to have a better offer during at least winter time.

Our bathroom could have had a little updating, but was practical with a large shower.
Anne and James were fantastic hosts, who made us feel very welcome. It was a ten minute walk into town and opposite the station. They had a restaurant and a bar, the breakfast was very good.
28 October 2014
shower and bathrooms were showing signs of mold

The room was cold, the water was cold. The bedding and room were not clean; I would even go so far as to say that they were very dirty. This is far from what I would expect. I work throughout the uk and stay at hotels every week; this is one of the worse I have ever stayed in. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
I selected this hotel while working in the area. The location was reasonable for where I needed to be.
9 September 2014
hotel was too busy for us, not with people but with furniture, too many sofas, chairs coffee tables etc. Wall paper and curtains need updating, far too flowery.
bed was comfy, breakfast was good, people very pleasant.

Very poor, an old and tired building with no character. We have received much better value for money in a standard B&B - at half the price of the Cumberland! Winding our way from reception to the main staircase was like creeping through a residential care home! Not impressed to see dog poo in the reception while the owners were sleeping in the front of the tv at the end of the night.

The shower didn't work
The staff are very friendly and the rooms are pleasant and comfortable.
25 August 2014
restaurant served poor quality frozen food that was overpriced.Chips were charged as an extra yet they were served on the dinner plate and there were not many of them. Hotel is very dated and shabby. Breakfast consisted of one piece of toast, one rasher, one sausage, one egg overcooked and a small amount of beans. Had no hot water for shower and had to hold shower head as it did not sit in the holder properly. Bedside light did not work.
It was clean.

Décor very very tired
receptionist brilliant, friendly and could not do enough for you. Despite very old décor the place was very clean and very comfortable, really a very nice place to stay.
3 August 2014
Patterned decor overpowering
24 July 2014
Service poor. Took ages for staff to do anything!! Cleanliness left lot to be desired. Felt like I needed another shower once I'd left. Booking.com definitely makes the place look better than is. I nearly died when I saw it
17 July 2014
Untidy car park, main entrance outside full of litter. No one cleaned this area in the 48 hours we were there and is probably not part of the routine daily tasks. This is first impressions for any visitor and should be priority but totally ignored.
Friendly staff, comfortable beds, food good.good facilities.
6 June 2014
