Location for a local event
Adequate breakfast let down by single staff who couldn't cope with guests ,had to clear a table from previous guests before we sat down then bacon tray and mushrooms was empty ,you know how many guests are there so provide the staff
A hairdryer that worked properly
They responded to problems and wishes.
A little noisy
The staff at the reception were super friendly and helped us check in quickly as we were on a tight schedule. Rooms are fairly modern (little on the small side but who needs a massively empty room?). A bonus with me is ALWAYS biscuits on the hostess tray with the tea and coffee so I was happy! There was a lot of parking available even though there was a function on which is great in the city! There was a function on so the bar was closed to the public for the evening but the staff offered to pop in and get drinks for us! How lovely :) Last but not least... Breakfast buffet! Help yourself to as much as you want from cooked or continental, really tasty!
We weren't made aware that there was a function on which was a little disappointing but we stayed up til gone midnight anyway and it wasn't particularly loud from the bedrooms, to be fair!
All we could ask for was there for us, including early check in.
Once I was able to get in the room, although very small it was warm and comfortable. There was free parking.
On arrival many drunk guests were out front fighting, arguing and throwing up / spitting, all surrounding the entrance. I tried to get in and got pushed back by drunk guests, some thought they were being helpful but as under the influence were clearly not being. I was on crutches and on own so a little daunting. I had asked for an accessible room as on crutches. I got a room up spiral stair on 1st floor, this was v difficult. The key wouldn't open the door for a good 10 mins but I couldn't get back downstairs to sort. There were no fire evacuation questions etc re me needing help in the event as disabled. The morning staff member was not friendly, not inviting at all & in breakfast the staff member could not stop coughing around the food. I appreciate she may have been Ill but she should have taken her coughing fit outside. I will not be returning.
I was given a double room on the top floor overlooking the front drive, I was really impressed with the room, nice and warm, nice and quite, lovely clean white grouting in the shower-a definite plus, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, have already recommended and would certainly use again.
A couple of hairs on the ledge under the towel rail in bathroom, when sitting at the dressing table the mirror is too low to do your hair.
rooms good breakfast good
There was a fuction on and i was made awear the resturant and bar would be shut but thought i would be able to get a coke to go up to my room, i was told i would need to go over the road to a pub with a young child i could not do this and was a shame as only could have water which was a shame.
Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
need to update menu to include some good vegetarian options.
The breakfast was excellent! The bathroom facilities were good and the temperature in the room was about right. There was plenty of parking as well.
The pillows were too soft for me! Also the concept of paying for accessories I may have left at home did not appeal to me.
Building is gorgeous, as are many of the fittings. Free parking. Good location. Staff helpful. Quiet.
Rooms are small and a little cramped but this was ok. WiFi was heavily throttled. Never got above 0.7mbs- usually 0.05mbs so was basically pointless and 3g was much better. Just about able to check emails, struggled with maps, newspapers etc. No chance of streaming or using cloud storage.
Close to city centre and within easy reach of Peak District and other towns and cities. Room was a bit cramped for a double but decor was very nice , Lovely cooked breakfasts but as there was a function on we're not allowed access to restaurant and bar for first 2 nights (we were informed of this beforehand ) , had evening meal in the smaller bar area on the 3rd night which was very nice . . All in all a pleasant stay
Lovely venue, ideal for us, will use again Breakfast excellent.
No hot water from sink tap on the evening - not very good when needing water to wash hands after visiting the toilet! Not sure if it was turned off for the evening or if the tap/washer needs replacing. Room 21 twin.
The hotel was very convenient for the party I was attending as it's set back from the road the traffic noise was minimal.
I had real problems with the key to my room and when I was ready to go out I had to leave the room unlocked and go down to reception to get someone to come and lock it, also when I booked I was told because of a big function happening I would be given a room along way from the activities my room was at the front nearly over the main entrance and people were outside smoking and talking till the early hours, so I didn't get too sleep till about three also can I just point out that the bathroom has plain glass in the window so had to pull the blind down which meant having the light on in the daytime even putting a piece of net curtain up would have helped.
Friendly staff Good breakfast Good location
Small room. 4ft bed positioned in a corner position against a wall. Not comfortable sleep for 2 people and difficult to get out of bed. Limited shelf/tabletop space for storage/using.
Building itself is nice and food is good and not at a bad price. Some of the staff very friendly and made a good effort to have a chat.
Wifi seems a bit of a rip off. They offer poor wifi that you can't connect to for free, but also offer a good wifi service at a cost of £5 doesn't seem right? Also shower was poor pressure and hadnt been cleaned great.
comfortable bed very clean bathroom which should be the norm and not something to comment on
room and reception looked jaded few white stains on jaded brown carpet room 1 ground floor noisy with taxis etc coming and going outside of window otherwise quiet by 11pm
Room was clean
I have booked online a room for one night to rest while traveling. On arrival I have found out there is a wedding in the venue and it is going to be loudly. The reception did not say a word but allocated us a room just above the dancing floor. The music did not stop until after 1am. They say there is wifi in the rooms but the transfer was as low as 0.04Mbps so no way you can surf the internet. Complete disaster, they should not accept my reservation in the first instance, avoid this hotel!!!
Was informed night before that restaurant and bar out of action due to a booking. Was not told it was a full blown disco with very load DJ. First room very small a bed pushed up against wall so we were kindly moved to a disabled room. Then the disco started. OMG it was so loud you could hear everything and people running and shouting in corridors. Couldn't sleep so was moved to another room on top floor but above the disco. Still could not sleep due to noise. Will never stay there again.
Helpful friendly staff. Interesting building. Breakfast very good. Excellent value for money
The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were clean and tidy, albeit single rooms with double beds added.
Small rooms, no lift., Noise from function room, despite being put in a "Quiet" room The 1930s metal windows did not close properly. Surely staff attitude reminisant of its railway heritage, apart from canteen staff. Cant be bothered to reply to emails.
Good location and easy check-in. Comfortable bed so good value for money.
Quite disappointed with quality (hashbrowns were cold) and choice at breakfast which was quite limited.
