liked everything else about it
Amazing old listed building although rooms a bit tired. Lovely evening meal in bar and good breakfast. Great value for money.
Rooms could do with a bit of modernisation.
Comfortable, wifi, value
Difficult really go find anything to like because the place is so 'unhotel' like. Bed was comfortable though and it was in a decent location.
It's just a really bizarre place. Nothing like a hotel at all and it wes probably a military mess in the past. Room tiny with no bedside table and a minuscule TV was hung up high on a wall. I was a single traveller in a double room.! If there were two of us it would have been unbearable.!its just a really strange place that does not have the feel of a hotel, more like a block of bedsits.
Friendly and efficient staff. Good breakfast. Room was clean, well-decorated and warm. Interesting Art Deco features and good information about the building's history. We thought it was very good value for money.
Big sign at door saying you couldn't smoke there but no sign to direct you to an area where you could smoke and no ashtrays that we could see anywhere outside the building. So lots of people seemed to just drop their cigarette butts at one side of the main entrance. Some thought needed about directing smokers to an appropriate place.
Location was excellent for my meeting. Good hotel for business use. Seemed to have excellent conference facilities but I didn't use them on this occasion.
Nice hotel but not quite up to its 4 star rating.
The price was good and plenty of free parking.
Rooms were basic. Ok for a one night stop over or as a base But overall it lacked much atmosphere despite art deco lounge.
The hotel was in a perfect location to fit with our plans for the weekend. Room was lovely, small but very well equipped and very comfortable. Breakfast was extremely good. Loads of parking. Would recommend the hotel and will definitely book again.
Staff & comfort
Location was perfect to reach the derby arena
Unable to get access to wifi
Old lumpy bed cold room poor staff knowledge re their own restaurant at night towels in bathroom old, small and hard unclean carpet no power in shower
Cleanliness in the rooms.
The rooms are noisy, you can hear everything from the corridor. Small rooms with tiny windows, felt a bit claustrophobic. Poor breakfast, basically you can only choose from English breakfast or some yoghurt and fruits
Cold room - heating doesn't work well
Room was clean and staff was helpful. Parking available.
Would stay again ..
Exactly as needed
Location for a local event
Adequate breakfast let down by single staff who couldn't cope with guests ,had to clear a table from previous guests before we sat down then bacon tray and mushrooms was empty ,you know how many guests are there so provide the staff
A hairdryer that worked properly
They responded to problems and wishes.
A little noisy
The staff at the reception were super friendly and helped us check in quickly as we were on a tight schedule. Rooms are fairly modern (little on the small side but who needs a massively empty room?). A bonus with me is ALWAYS biscuits on the hostess tray with the tea and coffee so I was happy! There was a lot of parking available even though there was a function on which is great in the city! There was a function on so the bar was closed to the public for the evening but the staff offered to pop in and get drinks for us! How lovely :) Last but not least... Breakfast buffet! Help yourself to as much as you want from cooked or continental, really tasty!
We weren't made aware that there was a function on which was a little disappointing but we stayed up til gone midnight anyway and it wasn't particularly loud from the bedrooms, to be fair!
All we could ask for was there for us, including early check in.
Once I was able to get in the room, although very small it was warm and comfortable. There was free parking.
On arrival many drunk guests were out front fighting, arguing and throwing up / spitting, all surrounding the entrance. I tried to get in and got pushed back by drunk guests, some thought they were being helpful but as under the influence were clearly not being. I was on crutches and on own so a little daunting. I had asked for an accessible room as on crutches. I got a room up spiral stair on 1st floor, this was v difficult. The key wouldn't open the door for a good 10 mins but I couldn't get back downstairs to sort. There were no fire evacuation questions etc re me needing help in the event as disabled. The morning staff member was not friendly, not inviting at all & in breakfast the staff member could not stop coughing around the food. I appreciate she may have been Ill but she should have taken her coughing fit outside. I will not be returning.
